Plantains and Green Banana are two of the staples of a Jamaican diet. Boil the green bananas and mash with butter, salt and pepper. Its tastier than mash potato. Plantains can be boiled, baked, fried, or grated and made into a tasty porridge. Depending on how you prepare Plantain it can be eaten at any stage from very green to over ripe. Try them you will open a whole new taste adventure!

A few fundamental questions just on plantains... 1st, about the degree of ripeness. Plantains range from green (unripe), to pure black. Though they look like they should be thrown out at this point, the unopened plantain with an entirely black shell is just the the fully ripened stage. Once such a plantain is opened, it is good to eat. I guess however, that since in this stage, it is more sugar and less starch once fully ripened, that for our purposes here, we should avoid fully ripened plantains? Also, there is the middle ground, where the plantain skin is a mix of yellow and black/brown. Is it still good for our purposes here to consume a quarter of a plantain in this middle ground of ripeness? This brings up another point - if I only use a quarter of a plantain at a time, is there a way to save the rest to consume on 3 other days in the future? My guess is that if I pick a green plantain, and leaving the skin on, cut off one quarter, then the remaining three quarters should be ok, since there is only the one end exposed to air for a couple days until I eat the next quarter? I can then just cut off a fraction of an inch of the exposed end and toss that? Then the 3rd question - to gain the benefit we are discussing here, does the 1/4 plantain need to be consumed raw? Will it change the beneficial function of the resistant starch we are after, if I bake, fry or grill the 1/4 plantain with butter, avocado oil, coconut oil, or even EVOO on really low heat? I'm thinking it could be a really nice tasty treat to prepare it this way with some good fat like these, and coated with a monkfruit brown sugar substitute/cinnamon mixture. I just don't know if that would negate the benefit we are after here. Thanks.

Please clarify, in this video you stated it is much better for those over 50 to eat more toward morning hours -- yet, in your intermittent fasting video you say this is a great way to lose weight after 50, but most fast in late afternoon or evening, while their sleeping and into the morning a few hours. For example, to reach ketosis I fast from 5-7pm to 10am-noon. So which is best, I'm 60, intermittent fast or my eating in the morning? I used to eat in the morning until I saw your IF video. Thank you. I really enjoy your videos.

Great information Thomas D for sharing your wealth of information. Now I can have a little “Whoosah” moment, because I am 58 years old and I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to eat the foods you have mentioned, but when you explained the science on how they affect the gut, it put me at ease. Thank you for always sharing great content and I am looking forward to your next video. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️

You talk about gut health a lot, but not that in depth in regards to candida issues. A lot of us that have been morbidly obese and/or eating a lot of sugar have candida problems. Some folks are like me and have been colonized for decades. In my case over 40 years. Being Keto does help fight candida but it can be kind of intense. Also, I am sure that thanks to the candida my gut is very unhealthy and am honestly kind of scared to aggressively change it, even though I know I need to. I looked on your channel and searched for any info on candida specifically from you can't find it if you have already made a video on it. If not, please help!

Oil of oregano and caprylic acid. Oil of oregano is effective, but it's also strong so take it slow and measure the way your body responds.

Really love the content. Please keep it up. Thanks to you (and a few other creators on here) I'm growing more curious about the general global public's awareness of and access to locally sourced quality versions of the... ???... minimum-maximally-effective quantities and varieties (or local substitutions) of just the few naturally medicinal-nourishing consumables you mention here. I'm curious if you've thought about designing a greenhouse that could support the minimal production necessary for a single human like yourself. There's a great Texas based group called Ez-Gro and plenty of base research has been done by all the entrepreneurial horticulturalists on the black market. Also curious if you know the stories of the plants you mention... You know the names and what they are useful for but I want to learn about what makes those plants happy so we can keep em around too. Don't you? Let's talk about it!

I’m so confused. I a, following strict keto, which you seem to embrace. But I’m 68 years old. Here you are recommending things like plantains, chickpeas, and bananas, which I can’t have on keto. By the way, I love how you’ve slowed down your speaking a little and started defining your terms and making things a little simpler for lay people to understand, I hope you hone in on those things more.

I'm very discouraged. I have been doing IF since June 8th. Not full keto but definitely low carb diet. Absolutely no sugar. Everyone seems to be moving forward with weight loss. I am 65, 5'3," 200 lbs. My labs were ok except LDL was slightly elevated. I'm so discouraged with myself. I really dont understand why.

DOG HAIR DONT CARE Lindaniel I’m 53 next Friday, 7.5 months ago had a “widow maker” heart attack 7 blockages, 5 stents still 2 blockages. Then spent 29 days in hospital after that because they gave me warfarin (rat poison) blood thinner that burnt a significant hole in my small intestine a day after I got home from the heart attack Died on my living room floor briefly. I had 11 blood transfusions, 2 plasma transfusions, 2 scopes, 2 blood clots, 6 ambulance rides I only remember 2, 14 ward changes ( every time I got better I got sicker) was on my back with 8 iv’s and massagers on my legs for 20 days. I ran 10km the Wednesday before and worked the night before my heart attack no signs or symptoms. I’m a certified nutritionist and eat proper real wholesome foods not processed. Life IS NOT a “fight” it’s a journey that really depending on your attitude and outlook can be challenging but you grow and learn you can accomplish a lot and enjoy getting older. I’m already walking 10-12km a day, have climbed 3 mountains, lots of hikes, September 19th going to be part of a Guinness world record attempt for “largest virtual 10km run. (My 1 year anniversary of getting out of hospital) oh and I used a walker for 3 weeks until I got strength back in my legs. I want to go skydiving this summer too. Bought a voucher for that already. Every day is a gift
