I imagined at the end of braveheart, when William Wallace cries "freedom" we get a zoom out, the cry echoing through the higlands, zoom in to a lake, a giant head showing - the call has been heard! And then instead of the battle of Bannockburn we get Nessie trashing the english army and the english beig like: "What ist this bullshit, I thought this Wallace fellow was the final boss!"

Aaah, Malak. I remember him well. The first time I fought him, I too didn't have an optimized build, so he killed me again and again and again. Eventually I figured out that you could kill the captured Jedi, which helped, but he still killed me again and again. In the end, I had to resort to something I am not proud of : I pumped my Jedi full of all the stimms I had picked up over the course of the entire game but never used, and killed Darth Malak through the power of drugs. It was not my proudest moment.

Ah ah, same! I had a giant stash of big heal-up items, not counting temporary boosts (stimms). What i found funny (i had the first, unpatched PC version) is that Malak would use force lightning on me a couple times at his earliest convenience. So you would see the protagonist literally jittering and tremble while injecting ample amounts of chemical cocktails into his blood stream. Truly a sight to behold.

Jane: " if I die" Jane does indeed have a second stage. It's a bit unexpected as the party who defeats her gains experience, cash and Jane drops rare loot After that though she jumps to her feet, lightning strikes her and Jane's second form now looks like three gods duct taped together and her banger of a soundtrack kicks in. @MidlifeCrisisJoe

It seems pretty obvious that the Elden Beast fight was going to be on the back of your steed at some point in development (same thing with the mystic deer too) but for whatever reason they couldn't get it to work or not at acceptable frame rates or something and then didn't tune it for being on foot. Because if you could ride Torrent throughout that fight, the biggest issue with it - the trudge from point A to B when the beast teleports away from you to launch magic at you - disappears rather quickly.
@MamaTrixxieAsmr
@MamaTrixxieAsmr 6 ай бұрын
Not being able to ride torrent for Elden beast is probably(this is my theory, take it with a grain of salt) cause you just fall into the void if you’re on torrent when transitioning from radagon to Elden beast with the mod that lets you have torrent anywhere and they couldn’t find a way to disable torrent for one but have it enabled for the other, cause like That happens exactly nowhere else. That segment reminded me of trying to fight Ornstein and Smough. Kiting them around the pillars in their boss arena while screaming is how some players separate them. (One is much faster and will dash ahead of the other to come hit you, then you have a moment to whale on him before his friend catches up and mallets you to a fine paste). I did mostly stop screaming after a while, though, once I'd backed around that hall so many times in a row that mild hypnosis set in.

I remember going "seriously?" when a Marauder somehow tanked a BFG shot. They were just so determined that you fight them in this ONE way, with no exceptions or thinking outside the box. What was even worse, however, was when the final DLC boss was not only modelled after them, but had something like four phases and if you miss the "attack now" cues, he'll hit you and get half his health back. Such a missed opportunity.
@Enderguy059
@Enderguy059 11 күн бұрын
Dunno why players got so huffed up about the Marauder having a prescriptive way to kill it. It's happened dozens of times in other games, even Doom itself, and players have had nary a complaint. You can still also cheese Marauders with the BFG since they'll prioritise blocking the projectile's tendrils over anything else, allowing you to whale on them with impunity

@@kurosakikun96 I understand summoning to take aggro, but I really don't understand the idea that some of the bosses are supposed to be fun. They've made them extremely aggressive with huge stamina, extremely long animation chains, and distancing moves (plus the healing, multiple summons, respawning, status effects, and huge AOEs, but none of those are my bugbear here). All of those things work well in Sekiro where the player character is faster, and can use every attack as an opportunity (because of the parry system), but in Elden Ring you just have nothing to gain by putting yourself in those combos, so you end up spending every fight waiting for the boss to stop so you can get a hit in and it prevents you from taking a lead or proactive role in the fights. It literally trades fighting time for waiting time, which is not fun, and which means that eventually winning doesn't feel rewarding, just like a relief you don't have to do it anymore.

Totally with Jane on this one. There's a character in KOTOR II who says she wishes she could have seen the final lightsaber battle between Revan and Malak because her society believes combat is the truest form of expression. I always wished there was a dialogue option to tell her that Revan stuck Malak to the floor with glue grenades, then pelted him with the pile of thermal detonators he'd bought after selling off all his friends' equipment. Sorry, Brianna, my Exile was a cheating git. And he preferred Visas Marr as well.

I'm also in agreement that the Malak fight just isn't fun at all. You spend the entire game developing all your cool force abilities and almost none of them work in your final battle (especially if you're going light-side). It sucks because there's nothing in the game to indicate you're "doing it wrong" until Malak just slaughters you over and over.

If you thought the Harbinger was annoying, I actually thought the fight against Sephiroth was a lot more annoying. Gotta love "I have a special move that sets everyone's HP to 1. Hope you're quick on the draw with those healing items". Oof, yeah, any boss fight where you have to do something notably out of the ordinary too progress can be hugely hit or miss. On the one hand, mixing up the formula so that the entire game isn't all the same is great and can give boss fights a little extra flair to really separate them from standard combat, but on the other hand if it's not clear that the pattern's been altered, you get those frustrations of "trial and error" trying to figure out what you're supposed to do, because it's also a fine line between using a glaring neon sign that people tend to dislike and so unintuitive that you get a large portion of the player base that doesn't understand what it is they're actually supposed to be doing.

I got it to work second time, but that was because I had a lot of health packs, and had force lightning + the one force break ability. I picked up force lightning because it was cool, but the force block? force break? thing I learned after Bastila was kidnapped because I got freaked out guessing I'd have to fight someone else with force lightning and force wave. Without force break, that fight would have been completely impossible. Malak has too high charisma or wisdom to fall to stuns from other weapons - although once he didn't save against force whirlwind. Once. My brother, though, killed him with adhesive grenades + thermal detonators. He had needed that combo to kill starkiller on Taris, so he'd always been squirreling more away. Cheesing bosses in this manner is a tradition as old as gaming itself. Never be ashamed of such tactics - simply remember all the times you wasted ammo on an enemy because they were inexplicably immortal for a moment, or the times that you were struck by an attack through a wall while your own attacks don't go through walls at all (I'm looking at YOU, Elden Ring!). And be proud of the fact that you identified and exploited a weakness that the developers (in most cases) did not intend or expect, and which their play-testers somehow neglected to discover. The most annoying boss I've ever faced was Demyx from Kingdom Hearts 2. When we first encounter him in the underworld where we don't really fight him, because all we have to do is get rid of his water clones with in a time limit, but later on we encounter him in Hollow Bastion where he comes back with his little sitar. HOWEVER this time not only do you have to fight him but he has a timer whenever he summons his water clones in greater numbers and if you miss one the entire fight restarts. You can't stop him from summoning his clones and if you are in a drive form if I remember correctly because you wanted to beat him faster you can't even destroy his clones for whatever reason. And I repeat if you miss a single one and the timer reaches zero it doesn't matter if he has practically no health left you restart the fight. He will make you almost break your controller whenever you hear the line "dance water, dance". What the game actually wants you to do is hit a clone once or twice to make it change shape, then use the reaction command that let's you spin it over your head and destroy groups of them. Me at 11 or 12 didn't get it, and spent an entire night into daylight trying to beat him before I finally noticed. I kicked myself for not realizing, and he's been easy ever since.

Most shocking thing for me here is learning that Young Jane played Light Side in KOTOR. I suppose that was before she properly discovered evil and her true calling. I do remember having similar issues with the Malak fight, and recall employing a similar 'run away and toss grenades at him' strategy. On subsequent playthroughs I discovered the joys of Force Storm and Death Field (and to a lesser and light sided extent, Destroy Droid), which killed those jedi healing flasks in a hurry. Of course, my favorite way of playing KOTOR was to ignore the glowing pool noodles and build as a gunslinger. Nothing beats stunning enemies and shooting them with blasters, like a hero.

@@wanderer202 agreed. Elden beast just come out of nowhere. it's like after you beat Gwyn in DS then suddenly you fight Manus for some reason, completely plays down the Radagon/Marika fight. The MF really like to fly to the other side of the map, which is another annoyance.

I find that the fight would be good if it wasn’t for it swimming away which is still ok in my opinion but the difficulty can be really random like sometimes it’s an easy slow sword combo or an exploding mist and sometimes (this genuinely happened to me) the Elden beast pulls out the stars, then the needle rain whilst the stars are still out then swordbeams at the same time as the 2 other things like how

The Elden Beast is mentioned in the Elden Stars incantation, though it's pretty hidden so most people may have missed it. It says that a beast came with the Erdtree to the Lands Between inside a star, sent by the Greater Will, and is one of the many connections the game has to aliens, aliens seem to be big part of the Elden Ring lore, like in Bloodborne. If there is a sequel or DLC it's probably going to be explored further

Even though Andy doesn't care about the story of Elden Ring, here's a very short lore recap for the last bossfight: Radagon was in fact the one who tried to repair the Elden Ring which his literal other half/personality Marika destroyed out of grief for the loss of her son Godwyn. That's why their hair turns from a brown shade to red in the opening cutscene. The Elden Beast is then the embodiment of the Golden Order (aka The Greater Will) to protect the Elden Ring which is stored inside of Markia's/Radagon's body.

@@oliverhendrix8176 yeah, the Elden Beast is an eldritch nightmare being. It doesn't want YOU to rule the world! It came here so that it could rule THIS world! Which was the entire point of the Golden Order and apparently why Marika shattered the ring.... to fragment the power of the Golden Order.

For me it's always Jasper Batt Jr's second stage in No More Heroes 2 Teleport spam almost impossible to block or dodge, random chance if him punching you out the window for an instant kill, and a weird red mist that stuns you and leaves you open for both of those in succession.

I always called doom games like a kind of sick and twisted ballet dance of death, every move practiced with perfect efficiency, each bullet hitting the enemy in the right place, the way you need to watch your six, your twelve and all the clock while managing every grenade, weapon and modification for the perfect kill/time ratio, A simply majestic and macabre dance

I feel your pain with Darth Malak. My character build must have been terrible because I died at least a dozen times before finally overwhelming him with force speed and flurry. Infuriatingly, I remember Darth Malak being able to clear all your buffs so I had to reapply them every few seconds. Truly peak boss design.

I totally agree about the Marauder from Doom. That fight works as a boss because it forces you into a carefully timed duel that requires your full attention rather than moving from one enemy to another as fast as possible. But as soon as you put it among other enemies you can no longer keep your attention on it for fear of dying to everything else which makes it much more difficult than it should be because every time you die your frustration with it increases because it doesn't feel fair like the boss fight did.

What's great about the Elden Beast is when you spend the entire game doing a Holy/Faith build only for it to be strong against Holy damage. Then after you finally beat it, you hear there's actually a whetblade that lets you apply fire damage that scales to faith

A friend of mine had the best description for Doom Eternal. It's a rhythm game with a Doom skin on it. The music is more memorable not just because it's awesome and heavy and brutal, but because in managing your cooldowns for getting your health/ammo/armor back constantly it becomes a metronome to your dance of death.
