Odd that you put up a picture of Ashley Pullen next to SGT Hester and say nothing of Hester herself. That's Leigh Ann Hester, the first woman since WWII to receive the silver star medal for valor, and the only woman ever to be awarded it in CQB (that is, the first and only for valor for actually fighting instead of 'just' bravery under fire); she was caught in an ambush and, along with two other soldiers who also were awarded the silver star, fought back and killed 27 attackers, wounded 6 more and took 1 prisoner. I mean, you know, she's the only one who's gotten the award for actually fighting, so you show a picture of her and then say nothing about her.
@integralmath6 жыл бұрын
The proposition of the title was the most badass. By any measure of the concept, Hester beat the soldier in the picture with her. It's not a matter of what I'd choose; it's a matter of empirical fact. Thanks for playing though, slick.

Watched this with my wife- while women aren't allowed in our unit I'd be proud to serve with any of these women. what some of you knuckleheads don't get is we no longer has a linear battlefields- Rear echelon troops that we often mess with (friendly) are no longer in the rear with the gear and we spend time now training them (on occasion) on some of the same things we learn. The world is changing and women are part of the service we can't ignore the fact that they are getting shot at as well. We just need to ensure standards don't drop, out of some type of PC bullshit.
@stevenlarsson68877 жыл бұрын
Here is a thought; base the standards on how many boots you need filled. Set the standards to where you are getting just enough male soldiers and open it to women. If that MOS is lacking people then knock off a push-up here or a few seconds off the run there and just have that one standard for males and females.

No, injured is when one is afflicted with an injury. That is, harmed, damaged or otherwise impaired. Being wounded in combat is one mechanism by which injuries can be inflicted upon a person. Female warriors have been around along time in other cultures. You need to do a little more research.

Andrew Turnbull Actually, I was referring to how woman warriors have been around long before America was a country. Of course, woman across the globe are excellent fighters, just as men.

Lynndie Rana England (born November 8, 1982) was a former United States Army Reserve soldier who served in the 372nd Military Police Company and became known for her involvement in the Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse scandal. She has my vote.

Women ought to serve in their own combat units. If females served in their own units, then the PT test wouldn't be an issue. It would allow a female infantry unit to create their own SOP's and TTP's that would make sense given the different physiques and needs of females. From experience, I had females attached to my combat unit three times in Iraq and it never worked well. It would allow them to adjust their combat loadout, load distribution within a squad, etc to a way that would make sense for them. It would also remove the sexual issues of having one or two females in an eight man squad. We can talk about professionalism and discipline all day long but let's face it: a.) discipline in the US forces is going down the drain thanks to 'kinder, gentler' and b.) 18-21 year old guys and girls are 18-21 year old guys and girls. Soldiers have emotions and feelings and desires just like anyone else. The way that the US military is doing this is doomed to fail. Whether that failure results in women being barred from combat positions for longer, or whether it leads to needless deaths is open to debate. History proves that female combat troops do best when serving within their own units. During WW1, Russian battalions of female infantry roundly outperformed male units and also motivated male infantry units to get back into the fight by taunting them. Giving females their own units, officers and NCO's would improve their overall efficiency and thereby likely improve morale as well. Female officers and NCO's are less likely to discriminate (consciously or subconsciously) and more likely to find solutions that will help female soldiers negate their disadvantages and maximize their advantages.

LOL. The WW1 example. You mean that small groups of motivated volunteer soldiers outperformed disenfranchised, demoralized conscripts? Shocking! You make it sound like shaming the men to die in droves for a war they don't believe in is a good thing.

The Russian men took no notice of them, left the trenches, and began to walk back to their homeland. Their families in Russia were starving to death with few to work the farms -- that started the Russian Revolution. After a March on International Women's Day 1917 (in May) demanding an end to the War, the Tsarist Govt collapsed 3 days later. The day before the Tsar wrote in his diary what he had for afternoon tea -- he had lost touch with his suffering people completely. Lenin had nothing to do with it. Lenin organised the Second Revolution in October.

Why do you assume only infantry is in combat?
@daizydgmailcom6 жыл бұрын
RaginAsianGaming I think that's why the female Israeli soldiers are so bad ass they all train together and their PT is actually more situated to a Females Physical abilities AND they all share the load I.E. if a big strong "farm girl" she can carry the The heavy weight they need but the small lithe girls do scout agenda and speed and agility agendas. They actually find their best strengths and assets and let them use that in the field instead of forcing SOP on every one like a cookie cutter soldier. Men should also be trained like that

If you're "... excluded from the Combat Exclusion Policy.." (3:55) it means that you're included. You meant to say that women were excluded from combat by U.S. Department of the Army Policy, the Combat Exclusion Policy of 1994. Words matter.
