Without a shadow of a doubt that Turkish food is the BEST in the world. It so scrumptious, It allures your senses in every bite. The portions are plentiful and it makes you feel full. In france and switzerland, they offer you two bites and they call it a meal. And their food is lousy ....

Just an FYI, the "flour", or Sahlep is made of a special Orchid only found in Turkey. To prevent extinction there is a ban on export of Sahlep. You should have also tried the hot Sahlep drink, perfect for chilly weather. Also the "Burnt Milk Pudding" you ate (17:00) is called Tavuk Gogusu which literally translates to Chicken Breast. Boiled chicken breast is added in to the pudding to give it a fibery texture.

Good lord. Everything looks incredible. Any regional breads and bakeries are always my first stop. 🥖🥐🍞 Simit is one of my favorite breads. Good thing we walk a lot as travelers. 😉 Manti looks fantastic too. Wonder if there are meat substitutes. Perhaps potato, for vegetarians or vegans? Baklava has got to be a top 5 pastry in the world. Done well, it’s a memory, not just a food. Side note, Turkey is the third largest producer of pistachios in the world. Explains the use in many foods. The “God I miss Mexico” comment did me in. 😂 I feel that. Fantastic job as usual, y’all.

@@MattandJulia Thats a traditional thing for those icecream vendors from that city (Kahraman Maras), only that type of icecream allows them to do those tricks, its bonding very strong and doesnt melt fast, even in the city they have a kind of a festival for that icecream and they performing how strong it is by towing trucks with ice cream rope (Very thick ofc ) or trying to cut icecreams by cleaver or axes.

I have spent a lot of time in Turkey (10 years) and I currently live in a small provincial city in the south. What always amazes me is how foreigners rave about Turkish food and how 'wonderful' it is. I couldn't disagree more. Give me bacon and eggs any day over menemen which is just spicy scrambled egg. Cheese is very often limited to beyaz peynir, the white feta type of cheese and/or kashar, acheese which resembles a yellow cheese but is quite tasteless and rubbery. I pass on both. Yes there is quite a variety of jams but did you notice they are runnier - more liquid - than the thick jams we are accustomed to? And I have never found my personal favourite, marmalade, here. Regarding things like mantı, gözleme, these could potentially be good but are not because the bulk is made up of the cheaper ingredients. In shop bought mantı there is barely a microdot of ground beef so it is just like eating plain pasta. The same with gözleme, the cheese is hardly noticeable so it is just like eating plain bread. The tantuni you had looked good but where I live they don't serve it like that. They simply chop up döner meat, wrap it up in a lavash and call it tantuni when it is just a meat döner or donna as they say in the UK. And Turkish sweets are just too sweet!
@MattandJulia2 жыл бұрын
I guess it comes down to it being “different” for a tourist on a short visit, of course living there is a completely different story 🥰
@alanfleming48232 жыл бұрын
@@MattandJulia Hi. Yes I think that is true. A short-term visitor is more likely to appreciate Turkish food but very quickly the 'novelty' would wear off. Outside of the three big cities there is very little choice of food if eating out. It's a choice of meat or chicken döner or ciğ köfte. I'm fortunate enough to sometimes eat homemade Turkish food and this can be very tasty so I am not totally anti Turkish food. I just want to finally say how much I am enjoying your videos. As a student of Russian Studies in the 80s in England, I spent a lot of time in the Soviet Union. I haven't been back since I graduated in 1986 but thanks to you I am now seeing a lot of the places I never made it to. Travelling in Soviet times was very difficult. You had to be part of an 'Intourist' group and only saw what they permitted you to see. Keep up the good work!
