I'm really glad you enjoyed the Eazy Bucket mutes. Jim Bohm and I did the R&D for the non-leather flugelhorn version, and we were pretty happy with the results when we got done. I'd always hated flugelhorn mutes, and the goal I had in mind was to make sure it sounded good, and played in tune. Basically, the goal was making it a mute I wanted to actually use.

@@JoshRzepkaMusic I did. You're doing a lot better with making videos this year than I am. Every time I think, "Hey, I should turn on the camera", I'm met with the realization I hadn't played in 4 or 5 days beforehand, since I've been averaging like one gig a month throughout 2020.

@@cktrumpet it's tough ... I just committed to one a week every Monday (Even if I'm occasionally a couple hours into Tuesday by the time it posts .. ), and then two a week. But yeah, it's pretty brutal not right now. No gigs, difficult to get all that motivation. If I wasn't making my weekly videos, and as active as I am with PTW on Facebook, I probably would be in a big funk. Just remember, "Perfect is the enemy of good". Better to make, post, and move on to the next, otherwise you'll get too caught up and may never post..

Like you, I have a huge collection of mutes, though not nearly as many. I have a lot of the modern versions, but I really enjoy vintage mutes and I collect them because I find mutes (and mouthpieces) to be a much cheaper way to vary the tonal pallette than spending several grand a pop on horns. I used to do a lot of pit work. Probably the most mute heavy show I played was Chicago: Straight Cup Harmon (with and without stem) Plunger Solotone Derby Fun times!

Yes - mutes are waaay better way to get an instant change as opposed to $1k+ on a horn. I remember one show I played (can't recall the exact one) I had to use 4 or 5 different mutes in one number. A juggling act in the pit. Those are always fun.

I'll take Hell for this, but I really dislike mutes. I understand the need at certain levels but I don't use them ever outside of Big Band gigs. But good job on your videos! That being said, you younger players, get a nice bag or case for your mutes to keep them in great shape, they're $$ so keep them safe from dents and dings. BTW, Denis Wick MPs and mutes are awesome.

Hey Alex, that's all good. More mutes for me. 😂😂 Thanks for checking out my videos, much appreciated! That's a great point I should have mentioned ... Taking care of your mutes. Very important. Question: do you dislike playing with them, or is it how they sound?
