Great video. I'm writing to say thanks for what you do in the fragrance world. I love my story about how I entered into the world of fragrance buying or collecting. Equality Fragrance (EQ)really stopped me from spending all my money on scented water. Lol. I've listened to you over a period of time, and you have said the exact same thing. I own 23 fragrances, and I wear what I have even more. I have purchased every one of my fragrances blindly. I wear each and every one of them. I refuse to die with full bottles of colognes. I just smash the like button on your videos, watch, and then comment. Take care and stay blessed.

Great video as usual Justin. I think that a lot of us would be very interested in the converse of this video: Designers that smell Niche! I've been personally interested in how you consider private blends of designers. Tom Ford has frags that definitely qualify as niche (tobacco oud, Plum Japonais, etc.). YSL private blend also has some niche style bangers. I would love to see that video! Keep doing what you're doing and have a great week!.

I have Spirit of Kings Arrakis and thoroughly enjoy that fragrance. One of my favorite Niche fresh fragrances is Vertus’s Eau de Cyan. The sea weed smell brings back memories of fishing near the Skyway bridge and the vegetal smell from seaweed sticking to the pillars along with the salty ocean smell. Most people who have smelled it on me didn’t like it, but the joy it brings me trumps any compliment I could possibly receive. Keep up the great work Justin!

JC, this is exactly why youre my favorite youtube reviewer. This is a hot take and could rub fragrance houses the wrong way but for the right reason. I own 3 fragrances from your list being Elysium PC, Percival and Scent of Peace and i have to agree. Just because i love those doesnt mean id disagree that they smell mainstream. Elysium is the closest thing to challenge the notion of niche but it still is meant to be mass appealing. For that reason, these really are not gonna be artistic but the quality is there. But yes, for niche houses, these are designer quality releases aimed at getting sales; nothing more.

considering the Vibrato/Tygar dilemma and having tried a lot of options with the tygar vibes (tygar itself, arrakis, vibrato, l'inmensité), i may recommend you guys checking out Ex Nihilo The Hedonist. so far, my favorite iteration of this dna; great scent cloud, it last, it projects, it does everything tygar does, and smelling better in my opinion. i still have tygar tho, but if you only want one of these for your collection, totally get a sample of The Hedonist, i think is a solid option.

As always you’re right. These designer and niche titles cause too much unnecessary consternation amongst people. The semantics are important if you want categories and some relative way to have comparison. Beyond that people get too caught up in arguing about pointless tags. The original TF line was insanely groundbreaking and sure “technically” designer since he makes clothing apparel but look at the original lineup and find literally anything at the times that smelled like TV, Amber Absolute, OW, Moss Breches, PJ etc.

I'm good with your description of these frags, have several of them. I get it. I would still call them niche, or more accurately, designer-type niche or even overpriced niche. I still value the term niche to describe a house that makes nothing but fragrance as that is usually the foundation for a house to have more leeway in creating well crafted fragrances that people wear for themselves, as opposed to mass appeal. I see it more as a description of the house which then influences the majority of their parfum. What is your opinion of Reflection Man? Amouage is my favorite house, and Reflection Man is unique....but it is also incredibly widely loved because its profile is very mass appealing.

Great video Justin. I agree, Niche perfumes should smell unique, good quality, innovative luxurious and interesting. To my personal taste, many Tom Ford scents fall in that category (Tuscan Leather, Bois Marocain, etc.). The only Bond no. 9 that I felt niche was Cooper Square. I consumed a bottle over 10 years and it was sooo good. I totally agree with your Parfum de Marly analysis. My favorite of the house that I think are truly niche are Shagya, Layton Exclusive and Layton. The only perfume that combines coffee and vanilla that I really like. Moreover, things like Xeryus Rouge (original), Fahrenheit (original) and Ricci Club to me are niche because of their innovative profiles when they first came out.

Niche citrus is tricky if comparing to Dior Homme Cologne, Aqua Di Parma, Atelier Cologne etc...these examples pair tenacious synthetic notes layered on citrus to create a mainstream effect - which is ok, makes ppl think the citrus lasts all day. True niche might lean more on provenance and let the actual citrus shine, you'll get the best Italian or South African citrus for 3 hours, it won't have that perfumey effect on the dry down and it'll cost $4 per ml.

Niche… As I see it, it’s actually very easy… 👍🏼 There’s a difference between a niche fragrance and a niche house. Niche fragrances are fragrances that are (1) done in a new way/style - that be specific notes or new scent profiles and (2) it has to be somewhat wearable/likeable - otherwise, if nobody likes it, it wont be filling a niche. Niche fragrance houses, aims to do the above with their fragrances - and does so. If a luxury niche house such as Fragrance Dubois, does a luxury mainstream fragrance, that is exatcly what it is. If a designer house does a new thought out fragrance, that smells like nothing else out there, and people are buying the fragrance, the fragrance is a niche fragrance from a designer house. I agree that the fragrances in the video are not niche, although they come from niche houses. May be luxury/high-end though. Anyway. Just my opinion 😊 Great videos Justin. Really enjoying your chanel. 🙏🏼 Thx.

Niche smells like it was intentionally crafted to not smell like anything else on the market, using high quality materials. This doesn’t mean it needs to smell weird or repulsive. It is intended to challenge or inspire the wearer through an artistic sentiment, whereas mainstream perfumes are simply intended to empower the wearer by helping them fit in to the crowd.

So are you going to do a designer that is really niche? Is that possible too? No it isn’t. My understanding is Niche is opposite of designer, and is only based on its origin. It has nothing to do with what it smells like, its longevity or performance, or how much it costs, or if it is mass appealing or no one likes to smell them. Designers do multiple lines, one of which is fragrance, and niche is from a company that exists exclusively for fragrances. Niche cannot really be mainstream, just like designer can never be niche. If you complicate it, you’re probably wrong.

@golfbuddy1969 Жыл бұрын
@@stayfreshproductions actually, I think it is appropriate to use either form. Niche marketing is an adjective for the type of marketing. A niche fragrance is really a noun, but also can be an adjective. I think both usages can be different and yet correct. Niche is defined as a product to a small and select group of people. Also, if you want to get really deep in it, niche can describe the fragrance, or the people that it’s for- both are niche. Also, I have enjoyed your vids.
