I personally prefer Female Shepard (Jennifer Hale). She sounds way angrier and more badass than Male Shepard does. Especially during the conversation with the Turian guard when going to investigate the plague on Omega. Besides, I always play Renegade by answering to characters before they can finish talking (dialog skipping button), to look even more Renegade.

Well, if you don't have enough Paragon/Renegade points, he dies no matter what unless you saved his family armor before the trip to Virmire. You can either get help from Ashley to kill Wrex, kill Wrex yourself, or accidently distract Wrex long enough for Ashley to kill Wrex. It's quite sad either way, but sometimes it's not a choice

Actually, killing the Asari in Saren's lab, despite being a Renegade choice and seeming quite brutal on Shepard's side, is the right choice to make. She is already indoctrinated, she will re-appear on ME2 still doing some shady business (helping Maelon, IIRC), and if spared again, she does a suicide bombing on ME3, killing tons of civilians. So yea, killing her is the correct choice.

Yep it's an email, or a news report, something very minor and easy to miss. She was indoctrinated since ME1 and when Reapers arrive in ME3 she suicide bombs and kills a ton of Asari.

There are lots of Renegade choices in ME1 that are simply better in the long run sprinkled throughout the game, no matter how dickish they seem. One of the reasons why it's morality system was better than ME2/3, it's not about being evil, it's about getting the mission done.

MeA was good but the story lacked any depth. And if you ignored the side quests it won't matter much in the end anyway because the ending took on a different planet entirely. For being an open world game, it's plot felt very linear. Plus, the nudity was glorified for I don't know what reason.

Same, I wanted to do like an aspiring Legend in ME1. Then In ME2 do more renegade stuff (I shocked one dude in the back that I thought I killed him and was like 'Osht...Well never speak of this agian' and backed out. I liked my conclusion though, I didn't want everyone to die...But the ones that did made sense. Legion died...May have made the wrong call, Thane died he might of gotten over whelmed, Miranda died she got over whelmed and I think she was like a lead, but I tried to get her loyalty, but I think I got locked out and she wouldn't talk to me any more so...Yeah. ME3 was meant to be like a redemption story. Finished up Ashely's romance, met up with the remnants of the old squads...I think Tali died or something and my Shepard made the choice to give up his essence and merge with the reapers and I think that's when the flash back of the people that died if any up to that point played and I think that added to the personal conclusion that he redeemed himself. So that's my headcanon for the next game.

I always hack my paragon and renegade bars to full when playing the trilogy. I see Shep as a good guy, but not a dumb one. If someone does something unspeakeable you can punish him, however you can also show mercy in another occasion. You can't by doing a full rene or a full para 'cause one of the option will be grey. Mixed creates a really interesting character. A good guy when counts, a punisher when needed.

That's actually the second-highest score that ME:1 will allow (it's much more conservative with paragon/renegade numbers than later parts). Killing the Queen also nets you +25 renegade score. The only option higher is to massacre all of the colonists on Zhu's Hope rather than pacifying them, which nets you +33 renegade if you kill every single one. Probably wasn't included in this video because it's a gameplay choice rather than a cutscene one.

If your paragon score is high enough it will unlock the paragon option... but you will still hsve to fight Saren. After the scene, Sovereign takes controll of the dead Saren via his implants and will climb and jump walls like a Geth type in ME1. Don't know for sure, but it also gives you an achievement.

3:24 I felt like the worst person ever killing Shiala (Thorian Victim) in my renegade run, I could only stomach going full renegade once. She is not at fault for much of anything. Then she helps you completely willingly and necessary for your success by giving Shepard the cipher. Then she says she want's to stay and help the people on the colony. Then you say 'sorry, you gotta die' and she willingly accepts her execution by getting on her knees and holding her head out for you. It's maybe the most fucked up shit in the whole series. Some other choices are hard because of the character sentimentality, Wrex, for example, but there is a back and forth that makes some sense in the result. Killing Shiala is just evil.

I get that a few of these were a bit excessive, but to me, renegade shep in ME1 has aged like fine wine, imo way better than in the other games. What stuck out about ME1 was how the significant renegade options were almost always contextualized as shepard putting the success of the mission above any individual's personal motivation. Renegade conversations with crewmembers were almost always about having them fall in line when they were having doubts or personal motivations, because renegade shepard expects the crew to view the success of the mission as the highest priority. sure, renegade shepard was an asshole the other times, but the value of renegade was far easier for me to get behind in ME1, because of how many renegade options were the most efficient solution, instead of being there just to make shepard look like a thug. I guess I could write an assay of examples, but after just having played ME1 and ME2 after each other, this was the impression I was left with, and to me, the difference in handling the renegade system was night and day. ME2 has a severe increase in sass for the renegade options, and there is almost no moral roleplay to establish shepard as a "mission success at all cost" type of character, because shepard in ME2 is just busy with assemblig the crew, unlike ME1 shepard, which was given a list of missions and was often challenged about how he/she would solve the problems. Renegade shep in ME2 has you insulting the illusive man and throwing shade at everyone, and the game rewards you renegade points for every time you say a borderline rude thing, which to me seems like missing the point of how renegade worked in ME1. ME2 gets it right a few times, like when during the suicide mission, you can refuse to escort the abducted crew *because* it would affect mission efficiency. But there's only a few examples like that spread throughout, while ME1 had you make choices like that all the time, at least it felt that way after playing both games within a week. I'm starting ME3 for the first time soon, and I really, really hope the renegade system takes the approach of ME1, with a clear conflict between mission efficiency vs ideals and values. I'll be a bit disappointed if it's like ME2, with its "doormat vs chad" approach. ME2 did a hundred things better, but renegade shepard was at its best in ME1.

The series got way better at portraying these ruthless acts over time. In subsequent games (ME3, in particular) you usually get hints of Shepard's regret and how difficult it sometimes is for him to make these choices, but that he believes they are the right ones (e.g. killing Mordin, killing Wrex), and it's mainly through animation, voice acting, camera angles and general cinematography, whereas in ME1, things are less refined and, consequently, paint him as a bit of a sociopath instead.

It also felt like your choices here had way more long term consequences too, both good and bad. Even something as brutal as murdering Wrex could potentially lead to some good throughout the rest of the trilogy if you played your cards right.
