Back just before Voyager aired there was an interactive website (or cd/dvd) where the ship and characters were introduced to the viewer. Each character spoke to you, the viewer, and described their duties and part of the ship. I had the video clips as avi files but was never quite sure where they came from.

The Star Trek Experience in Vegas was my only reason for going to Vegas. Wandering through the museum and the shops on the Promenade, having a Warp Core Breach at Quark's Bar... geek heaven. I miss it terribly. Not live action, but as far as games go, Bridge Commander and the two Voyager Elite Force games were absolutely superb. Sort of an in between was the Interactive Technical Manual. It made use of all of the TNG sets, allowing you, by means of QuickTime 360, to take a totally self-guided, in-depth tour of the ship. You could mess around with consoles, fire phasers, ride turbolifts, and get all kinds of ship technical info as well as production info from the series. Really neat.

One year, I had gone with two friends, and made each of us a Voyager-style uniform. While that in itself was cool, the moment that stands out is when we were all at the restaurant there, each having ordered a Frozen Hirogen (which was a non-alcoholic drink). The Klingon had come up to us, taken one of our drinks, held it up for all to see and bellowed out "THIS is not a WARRIOR'S DRINK!!!"
@Dargonhuman7 жыл бұрын
K1productions Oh Lordy, the costumed actors they had wandering around the place were so on-point, and they really sold the illusion, didn't they? I went with my parents, and at the time I was just a year too young to drink, but our standout experience was one of the Klingon women was being harassed by a Ferengi man at one point, then later we crossed paths with the same woman. My stepdad tried to say something to the effect of, "You know, if that Ferengi bothers you again, I do know karate..." Before he could finish, however, she snarled, leaned into his face and bellowed, "What are you saying, human? That I cannot take care of myself?!" My mom bolted one direction, I bolted the other and left him to face an enraged Klingon by himself. That was in 2001, and we would still laugh about it right up until my mom passed away a couple years ago.
@k1productions877 жыл бұрын
Hehe, that sounds like an amazing experience. Unlike other theme parks where the costumed performers are usually just quiet and posing for pictures, STTE's had full backstories and everything, and it was amazing. I wish it wasn't stuck inside the Hilton, making it impossible to build outward. And if STTE had held on for one more year, Star Trek (2009) would have surely resulted in a boost in attendance

Anyone else remember the _Voyager_ episode "Infinite Regress", when Seven developed multiple personalities? One of them was "The Son of Kavok (K'Vok?)". If Robert O'Reilly's Kavok is that character's father (which the time, and relative ages support), that would make "Star Trek: The Next Generation:" A Klingon Challenge" canon.

I'm still not 100% sure of everything that was happening, and I'm sure there are some technical explanations out there for it, but yea, that was awesome. I still giggle at the part of the opening video before the transporter when they say pregnant women can't go on the ride and the baby daddy just kind of shrugs at her and then takes her place in line like, "Aw, babes, sucks to be you. I'll be sure to tell you all about it when I get off."

Honestly, playing it is pretty great, too. I had planned on trying to put the whole game up on KZbin, but never did it because they kept saying they were going to be getting rid of annotations soon. +The Dave Cullen Show Sorry just a point about Star Trek Borg. The Ship that is a shown is the USS Cheyenne. While yes it is stock footage of the Enterprise D from the show the opening transmission in the intro suggests your on the Cheyenne not the Enterprise D. (which is confirmed in the book and audiobook) They did end up using the Voyager sets but that could just convey that the Cheyennes time of construction is later and closer to Voyagers construction time. Plus there are some variances between the internal look of federation ships. You are right about the uniforms they do no match the uniforms used at the time in the show chronologically. I personally thought it would be fun if they released more of this type of game. Dealing with side ships and certain cultural things. Like the Romulans.

Just want to add that it's not just "some arguing." TAS was officially made canon by CBS/Paramount. Because wanted it. Memory Alpha, which has always considered TAS to be canon, shows it's not all that disruptive. It's fairly easy to make it work. Unlike Memory Beta and trying to include all the books which often contradict each other.

Honestly. I prefer the Borg Experience over that of the Klingon Encounter. For one simple reason. You got to be part of the action, sort-of. I still remember the first time I went through it and I was standing right next to one of the actors who got grabbed by a Borg Drone. Not to mention seeing Borg almost face-to-face sent shivers down my spine. Though I do admit I got a similar shiver during the Klingon Encounter Ride when you are caught in the Tractor Beam of the Bird of Prey and the Enterprise swoops in to save the day. Riker's "Not Today" Line was classic. It was a thrilling experience and I would love to seen Star Trek Experience maybe moving to another location and expanding with another couple rides. It would have been awesome. Sigh. Those were the days...

I remember people talking about the TNG VHS board game back in the day. Honestly I've never understood why no one ever re-released it on a DVD. Star Trek the Experience, Las Vegas Hilton, 1998 to 2008, was also a simulator built a lot like the Star Wars one at Disneyland. The Klingon Encounter featured the cast being meamed up from a faux elevator to the mock up of the Enterprise D transporter, and you are led down a corridor to the turbolift, which is on motion skids, and does some jarring, and then arrive on the bridge to play the video. You are then escorted back to the turbolift to the shuttle bay deck, where your shuttle then goes on the mission with full aircraft simulation motion. They used two bridges and sims at a given time. The Borg Encounter was added around 2003 and featured a starbase corridor, a redress of the one from the first sim, where you are led to a wrecked starbase under attack, and then to a large personnel shuttle, ala the theater in Disney's California, but they closed that. The Borg part would have motion steats and the spray you mentioned. The movie would be timed with the rumbling seats with little bumps in the back to make it feel like something crawling on you. The 4d gimmick was kind of silly. Also the promenade and the row of gift shops were designed to look like Deep Space Nine, although not to scale, and the Quark's Bar was to scale, which was awesome. The Enterprise D bridges were spot on and looked real like on the show. They got everything right on down to funny LCARS. I suppose the NDA from 2004 is probably invalid since it's closed down now. If only we could have rescued some of the sets, which were scrapped. That was a bummer. It went under in 2008. Got too expensive. I had been to it several times, but always amanged to miss Trek Las Vegas. It was usually just after the con. Maybe someday. It was more of a ride.

I think the last one, Star Trek: Borg may be actual canon. In an episode of Voyager, Q tells Janeway, "If it wasn't for me, you would have all been assimilated by the Borg." (Janeway counters with, "You introduced us to the Borg, thank you very much," referencing the events of TNG episode "Q, Who.") I believe Q's line may be referring to events in the game, assuming a successful play-through to the end.

I did the Star Trek Adventure in Universal Hollywood as a kid and really enjoyed it. Depending on your role, you were on the Enterprise bridge, the Klingon BoP bridge or down on a planet and got lines to say or actions to perform. From the Memory Alpha page and videos you can find on KZbin, the Orlando version was pretty much all blue screen effects even if it had some original footage.

Borg was a terrible find-the-pixel mess in terms of gameplay but the story and of course John DeLancie's performance were definitely worth the effort. His little tutorials if you weren't finding the right pixel were priceless--and if you didn't even try to do his follow-along he'd end the game right there. Also, the ship that the game starts on was Galaxy class but it was not the Enterprise-D. It was the Cheyenne. Doesn't explain the uniforms of course.
@ZipplyZane7 жыл бұрын
I never found STB to require pixel hunting. It's just an interactive movie. The game makes it really obvious when you can make a choice, and what you can click on is big and usually obvious. The difficulty comes in needing to read (well, listen to Q read) from the tricorder to learn the information you need to figure out all of the puzzles. Oh, and to pay attention to what you learn even when you go down the wrong path.
@observantwatcher65117 жыл бұрын
It may have had something to do with the system I was running on, back when I was a total computer neophyte (and a kid no less). It took some precision clicking back in the day before optical mice were a thing. I figured out the puzzles quickly enough but at least with what I was working with hitting the sweet spot was tricky. Your mileage may have varied, I don't know. It was still fun to go Borg hunting with Q.
@hurrhurrmurr6 жыл бұрын
That and the timing. Didn't click it quick enough? Too bad, rewatch 5 minutes. But I was 8 when I played it
@ZipplyZane6 жыл бұрын
Now that I agree with, hurhurrmurr. I remember thinking the time limit on the choices was too short. And while I don't think it required pixel hunting, I did think that spinning cursor was stupid. I could see how it might mess you up if you didn't realize that the top left is always where it clicks. It would have been better with a small Star Trek arrow and then the Borg cube spinning under it.
@synthetic2406 жыл бұрын

The fun part about any of the games was playing them wrong. Like in "Borg" you got really crazy looks from the other crew members if you made the wrong choice. In Starfleet Academy you could put the star base in a tractor beam and go to warp, and just lose it somewhere a long the way. In Klingon Academy, your first officer would assassinate you if you screwed up. In Bridge commander you could fire on friendly ships and get relieved of command. My favorite though, that you left out was Voyager, Elite Force. I would spend hours shooting Nelix, or Chakotay in the hallway and being chased around by security. It was more fun than playing the actual game. You can find Voyager's self destruct if you look hard enough.

Aaah Star Trek academy and Klingon academy, great games. Still have my discs in the original fold out wallets.

I did have the Borg game and agree that the game itself was lame, basically a series of multiple choice options with most leading to death, but Q made every moment blissful. It's no surprise that adding Q to the game made it the best of these. He makes anything better.

You missed Phaser Strike for the 1980 Microvision handheld game!

The last one, the game Star Trek: Borg: I think Q's line in an episode of Voyager, "If it weren't for me, you would have all been assimilated by the Borg" was referring to the events of that game, implying that it could be canon--assuming a play through to successful conclusion.

Huh... Dave, I don't think I've ever heard you geek out in any of your videos. It's refreshing.

The board game is actually the only one of these I'm really familiar with.

I remember the VHS Board game. The brother of a friend of mine, back in elementary school, had it. However it was all in english as there was no dubbed version of it. WHich i found lame but the game was supposedly for older players anyway and not for kids.

i actually still have the vcr board game it was fun to play, also have borg both are good and both could be considered cannon because of the events in them

Still much better of anything that Kurtzman has produced since this video was released.

Isn't the redhead in Borg the same girl who gets assimilated at the beginning of First Contact?

When I went to The Star Trek Experience in 2006, I SUPER geeked out when we were transported onto the Enterprise D. I still haven't figured out how they did that.

Have you ever watched Star Trek Continues on KZbin, here? It is pretty good.
@Linerunner997 жыл бұрын
It *was* fantastic. It's a finished series, however.

Linerunner99 Yes, I know. Damn shame, it did very well in capturing the feel of TOS.

Vic was going to be playing the admiral version of Kirk soon enough (he's 55, but holding up remarkably). I've watched other fan series but none of the others I've seen come close to STC.

The show also shows that the TOS sets can still hold up in this day and age if you have good stories and engaging characters.

prelude to Axanar is also well worth checking out if you've not already done so

You forgot the Webster - TNG crossover (it's completely awful and most painful to watch, but it was official and is also the only official crossover into another show so it should have made the list)

I had the Board Game. Also, I've seen the rest on here. It bugs me that we never see Janeway physically in Borg Invasion 4D, even though they get her in uniform and she appears physically in the trailer. Also, that's the USS Cheyenne in Star Trek Borg. The woman on the ship should be in an FC/Late-DS9 uniform as it's mentioned that they've defeated them twice. SIDE NOTE: In Star Trek Borg, the opening which features a distress call, states that there are TWO Borg Vessels en-route to Sector 001. But the Righteous only detects one. Starfleet is good, but I doubt they could destroy one Borg ship so easily. The opening's hail also seems to identify the ship as the Cheyenne.

Uh, you said Starfleet Academy included Chekov, but not Sulu... while showing footage of Sulu.
