Күн бұрын

In this video, we'll share 7 places that you may not have heard of in Wyoming. We say this because typically people are just familiar with Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons National Park, and maybe Devils Tower National Monument.
Wyoming has so much more to offer and with so many people recreating outdoors these days, we want this video to encourage people to seek out the lesser known travel destinations. There's plenty of them out there!
The places we visited that made the list:
01:17 #1 Grouse Mountain, Bighorn National Forest
03:44 #2 James T Saban Lookout, Bighorn National Forest
04:34 #3 Meadowlark Lake, Bighorn National Forest
05:20 (Mentioned - U.S. Route 16 between Meadowlark Lake and Ten Sleep)
06:01 #4 Hot Springs State Park, Thermopolis
07:18 #5 Wind River Canyon
07:37 #6 Saratoga Hobo Hot Springs, Saratoga
07:57 #7 Snowy Range Scenic Byway, Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest

I was born in Laramie and Thermop was my favorite place in the world when I was a kid. We'd always stay in the Days Inn with all the hunting stuff and trophies in the lobby. There was a Creature From the Black Lagoon pinball machine that me and my dad lost a lot of quarters to. We went every year and Star Plunge was the highlight. That hot spring water always felt so great. Something about the sulfur smell

Stuck in north Idaho and have been missing my home State of Wyoming, for almost 50 yrs. However, the cold, wind and poverty, have kept me away. It's very sad when one has to live in a place where you have to work or be homeless as a single, senior citizen. I waited too long.

We used to drive from Belle Forche to Powell and Cody, WY on 14A out of Dayton, WY into the Big Horns. Coming back over to Belle Fourche we called it OH MY GOD HIGHWAY because you came around the pass and you were thousands of feet up. The Big Horns also have the Yellowstone River and lots of camping. Born In Lander, raised in Saratoga, I have spent plenty of nights at the hot pool or breaking curfew and going there and then running from the one cop on duty..... Or going there after hitting the Rustic, Wolf, Whistle Pig and Lazy River (now Duke's). Or going to the Hot Pool after working long hours. Grew up hunting the Snowies, know damn near every inch of them. Hiked up to the top of Medicine Bow Peak from Twin Lakes. I've been to Thermop more than I can count. Pretty much everywhere you showed I've been at least once, except for that Meadowlark Lake, never been there.

Thanks for memories of Meadowlark Lake. My family took an epic camping trip in 1960...Parents, 5 kids 6>18 and the family dog, Pudgy. We came upon the lodge on Meadowlark Lake late at night with my Mom driving the station wagon with pop up Higgins trailer from Buffalo on the really narrow road at that time. Horrible drop offs and pitch black. We crashed in a big cabin and awoke to being right on the lake with blue skies. Wonderful time. Instead of racing off we spent a couple days horseback riding the the fire tower and becoming official 'Chipmunks". Still looks familiar but there was no ski lodge at that time.

"Cow pie pitching" is one of our favorite sports here in Wyoming! They also serve well as fuel for campfires when there's no wood around. I even saw a fella selling "cow pie cigarettes" to the flatlanders once , but I just never screwed up the courage to try one! Too bad you didn't try fishing at Libby Lake; with a few well picked flies and a little patience, it's trout for dinner!

I know I’m not the only one who is thinking this but while I do appreciate the fact that you like the Big Horn Mountains please don’t talk them up too much. I grew up camping in and riding horses in the Big Horns and the one thing that ruins places like these is publicity. While I was growing up we could go up there for a week at a time and not see anyone else on the mountain. That is not possible any more because of the publicity these mountains receive. Please enjoy the mountains but try not to publicize them too much. Otherwise, take care of yourselves.

Hey Brent, you’re not. I had a healthy conversation with someone awhile back in the comment section. The long term goal here to to get the general public more aware of the thousands of places we have to recreate so that we spread out more and don’t have 96% of people going to just Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I definitely respect that you enjoy these places and a huge portion of that is due to the lack of crowds. Hopefully videos like this open peoples eyes to the millions of acres of amazing places we have to recreate in this country! Thanks for watching and for your comment. ☺️

If you've not done them yet, I recommend Shell Canyon up to Burgess Junction, and then from Burgess Junction, down 14A to the Medicine Wheel and Big Horn Canyon at the base. Or perhaps do that in reverse. Be aware Shell Canyon is narrow so it's a slow trip up or down, and 14A has 10% grades. The views are spectacular, but take due care with your brakes or they WILL overheat.

You guys need a couple of Honda Trail 90s. They're light and you can put them on a rack on the back of your RV and they'll take you anywhere. Born in Wyoming. Can't say I miss it a whole lot. Really the pretty parts are separated by 200 miles of sagebrush. Anywhere really nice you can't afford. Lots and lots of alkali flats and nothingness. Good place if you hate humanity though.
