An useful tip for using the metro more comfortably at crowded times is: don't just stop right at the entrance of the platform to wait, but keep walking until reaching a less crowded spot and wait there. Often, huge crowds of tourists and "lazy" people want to hop on in one single spot while the rest of the train is almost empty. Also, look for empty spots in the train as it rolls in. With these two "hacks", I almost always find a not so crowded space in the vehicle, even during rush hour.

Great video! We have lived in Wien for nearly 8 months. The public transit is amazing. It's a shame that some people need to be shamed into sharing double seating, or move from seats designated for the elderly or pregnant passengers.

Thanks, guys! I'm from Brazil, and I'm planning to visit Vienna next Christmas with my wife and daughter. Your videos are giving us excellent tips! I'm also planning to bring my 81 years old mom. It would be nice if you could produce a video talking about facilities and difficulties for an old person visiting Vienna. Thanks again!

Thanks for watching! To Salzburg or Innsbruck you can choose between two train companies. Either Westbahn or ÖBB. Both of them are great. Both of them offer online booking and fare estimation. I would propose to check out both websites and book based on availability.

not all stations have lifts or other accesibility stuff... those few are marked on the plan at every station and on the Gesamtnetzplan... also, S-Bahn might not be as fast, but usually the most comfy (if you can find a vacant seat that is haha) and since it is a regular train, you can use it to munch on stuff :D a bit of a "pro" tip - there are still older 4020s/5040s (aka older Siemens Schnellbahn trains) that are not always airconditioned - you can usually meet those serving S45, many S3 services use those as well, and if you head from Franz Josef Bahnhof towards anywhere near Tulln, and you take a regional service, chances are you encounter those oldies too :D if you dont get cooked in those, they are still reliable and surprisingly nimble (and for train fans they have a cool sound) some more tips: if you need to catch a train back home from Hauptbahnhof, try to think ahead with your route planning - there is a BIG difference if you end up at Hauptbahnhof Ost, one of stops around the station, U1 station, S-Bahn platforms... those are positioned at different points and even levels of the station and it can make a big difference in how long it takes you to your chosen platform and service (where I f.... up last time - I thought I have enough time, so I took direct route with tram D to Hauptbahnhof Ost, but my train was at A-B section of a platform, so I literally watched it start before my eyes :D ) a current update - they are doing sth near Praterkai station, not sure exactly what... they could just be moving the station a bit further from the bridge, or, it might be a first-step preparation for the proposed extension of S45 line - there are now very concrete plans to return passenger traffic to the rail line from Handelskai southwards (atm only used by freight trains), with additional like 3 stations, terminating at Praterkai... once this is done (might take a couple yrs), Vienna will have a kind of "Ringbahn" (not a true one like in Berlin), with transfer points being Hutteldorf and Praterkai (with S80 still continuing to Aspern Nord) #untilwemeetagain :D

Hello, thank you for great tips. I was wondering, I installed ivie app for buying city cards. Is that ok or you preffer airalo?
@KhyatiPuria
@KhyatiPuria Ай бұрын
If you want to use the ivie app during your stay, you need a data plan or wifi connection. So ideally, also get yourself a data plan from Airalo. They are quite inexpensive and you get 15% off if you buy it through our link (airalo.pxf.io/1rNx5B) and use code: NEWMAY15

Thanks for the tips ! Can you help me with one thing: When i buy ticket from airport to city center (wien mitte) should i exclude city fare if i have bought 1 week public transportaion ticket via wienmobil? and also, when i buy ticket via wienmobil, it automatically starts and i don't have to validate right? and if someone checks on me, i will show them ticket qr, or whats visible after buying😄
@KhyatiPuria
@KhyatiPuria 2 ай бұрын
Yes you can exclude it! So you basically just pay 2€ for one direction. Yes online tickets get automatically validated - based on the start date you choose in the order process. Yep QR code is sufficient

I have compliments and complaints about the Ubahn metro trains in vienna... Complaint: its 2024 almost 25years into the 21st century, there is no reason or excuse for those old trains without aircondition. also... there is no excuse for not having downstairs/ downward escalators at all stations. Compliment: Vienna's metro underground trains are a comfortable almost 5*star experience compared to the incredibly noisy, rundown, " headache" and very often late city train systems of London and Paris... which are both at borderline disaster state.

Thanks for watching! I’m pretty sure there is a reason why they keep the old trams and metros (iconic vintage look). Can’t be for cost reasons only. Keeping them alive must be expensive aswell. But would love to hear the real truth if somebody has insights.

@@KhyatiPuria old trams are cool, vintage...the windows open and above ground but the old underground trains are really not nice, and horrible to be in.
