The thing with mega bases is that after building a large chunk of the build you realise that the parts you built at the start start to look bad compared to the new stuff you built and you have even more to do by renovating the old parts to look as good as the new ones

I have a 3-4 year old mega base, consisting on various medium sized builds and areas (city, farm, swamp, villages, mines etc) and I realized one year after starting my base that my true passion is just building. So I switched to creative mode, and it was a game changer. I'm never tired of my world, and although sometimes I do take 3 months breaks from the game, I'm always excited to play. Sorry about my English

Another tip: expect mistakes, for things to go wrong, and for some parts to just not work out how your imagined. If you expect for everything to go perfectly, there will be lots of disappointment when building.

I built a custom village in my world and I can say if I were to add some advice, is when you are planning, make sure you are confident in your build palette, and the materials that make up said build pallet are hard to get. for me, it was in a desert world so my pallet was red sandstone and sandstone along with terra-cotta. Secondly, roads are everything. in a town especially, if the path doesn’t look good you won’t want to walk the city. And third, making it exactly what you want to be is important. If you don’t make your dreams of a build or multiple builds then you won’t get attached as it's not what you wanted. this video is amazing, keep up the good work.

Making smaller builds due to burn out is such a real tip. I built stark tower in survival and it took me HOURS especially due to tutorial being hard to follow because it was in creative and being constantly time lapsed. The amount of concrete powder to turn into concrete was absurd even with a farm. The the building process was crazy. I’ve only played Minecraft for about 3 months now and that was honestly extremely for a beginner like myself

Thank you for the video! I started working on my first ever mega base yesterday and i'm almost done with my creative world copy. It's a gargantuan ruined tower jutting out of the ocean with underwater railway tunnels at the bottom floor. I have designed it so that I will be able to fit many different farms and redstone contraptions in it. Hopefully these tips will come in handy when I make the final design in my survival world. One good tip would probably have been to first make your base in creative to see if it has any flaws and is practical.

Started an SMP with my friend abt a month and half ago. Our starter base was a hole in the side of a mountain, which we are planning to expand into our megabase, because we can just keep expanding on it. There is a seperate mountain near by and we also plan to build a massive bridge which connects the two, both of which having our base inside. Also means we can work step by step and not overload ourselves with too much.

These are some very good tips! Well done, I loved it. One question: would you build roads before buildings or after?
@LeonSBU
@LeonSBU Жыл бұрын
thank you!! :) and to answer your question, i think it depends on the build - if we're talking about an organized, planned out, large city build, then having a set of orderly grid roads is very important. in that case, i think it's very helpful to be able to create city blocks of uniform sizes, before you start laying down your buildings. however, if your build is more organic and freeform, such as a rural countryside, then try laying down the buildings first. in situations like this, pathways would naturally form as people walk around the area, finding the most efficient ways to get between different spots. maybe you had a small frontier town that started as just a railroad stop by a mine, and gradually expanded to include more homes and businesses. this type of town would have the railroad track as a central location, and roads would be formed by people walking from their homes to the mine, and to stores, etc. hopefully this helps!

right now i am working on a huge video game area, (like a ton of builds based on other video games, specifically nintendo right now), and a huge huge thing that helps me is finding screenshots of the game areas i wish to recreate and putting them in a pinterest board, or even just a discord channel. it personally helps me with scale as well, because i can see the sizes of things compared to eachother in screenshots. another thing i find that helps is getting a world map mod, and then screenshotting the area i’m working with and scribbling stuff over it in an art program like mspaint. i know some people play strictly vanilla but xaeros world map mod helps a ton with me visualizing things :) thanks for this video!! your channel is super underrated and this helped gather some motivation to finally get grinding. edit because i forgot to put this in the original comment: another thing that sometimes helps visualize or plan is building on a creative superflat world, and then using litematica to essentially give a blueprint of what i want to build. this can really help because it will give you an exact material list as well of what you are building. also for those who dislike doing redstone but need farms, some tutorials post their farm worlds online, and you can download the world and make a blueprint of the farm so it is way easier to make!!
@LeonSBU
@LeonSBU Жыл бұрын
that is a very interesting way of planning builds!! thank you for sharing :) it's always neat to see the steps other builders take in their process. personally, i do use litematica to help visualize my builds that i've already planned out in a creative test world, and i occasionally use the material list function as well.

Something that I do when I play Minecraft, (whether I'm resource gathering or just building) is put on a show/podcast to watch/listen to. When I tell you it helps so much when you're doing anything that you hate, like outlining for a build or figuring out designs in creative, I mean it. A podcast I enjoy listening to is 'Distractible' with Markiplier, Bob, and Wade. I promise it makes tasks, whether it be large or small, so much easier .

Even if I do, I will probably just take a brake and troll my friends or something, so the chance of not finishing my build will be very slim.

hey man great video but i have a question, what should i do if i’m trying to build an underground build but i come across a massive cave?
@LeonSBU
@LeonSBU Ай бұрын
hmmm good question! there's a few things you can do - for starters, i think finding a massive cave can be a huge blessing! that's a ton of blocks that you don't need to manually dig out, and now you have a sort of "template" for how your base can look. of course, you'll need to light up the area, and full explore it, but that's a *lot* more fun than digging for hours. also, don't be afraid to create new sections, or wall up parts of it, if it's too big! just because the cave is huge, doesn't mean you need to use all of it 👍 one thing i like to do when i'm making a custom cave is to add natural formations such as rocky pillars, waterfalls, underground lakes, etc. to make the place feel more vibrant, and mix up the color palette.

General storage tip; if label, label, label everything. If it’s bulk material it will have chest upon chest full to do anything meaningful.

100% agree! i tend to use named blocks in item frames, but honestly, any kind of labeling system works great! i find it very interesting how other players organize their blocks...it feels like a weird bit of insight into how peoples' brains work...

@@LeonSBU I used chests the face out with one side labeled in categories in my storage room 2. That’s the smaller stuff I don’t need tons of. Excess usually gets made into bone meal. Storage room 1 is the terraforming broom with cobblestone, dirt, sand, all that bulk material. And almost everything. Has its own chest. Or row of chests.

I just finished the OUTSIDE of my giant tree that almost touchest the clouds and it took 9 MONTHS to build. Yea i may i have taken like a 4 month break from burnout but it does look cool for my villager trading hall eventually. Its a pine tree if u wanna know. I definitely agree that smaller houses put together is better. I do plan to build a spruce themed villager but i still need to update my older buildings 😅

I made a mega base once it was a lab that i built in a lush cave which was pretty neat because it made it look like the lush cave was being studied it was so cool even had a horizontal slime elevator in said base that goes over a pit filled with lava too bad i accidentally went into creative and i had to throw out the whole world

Leon i might need help im now building a castle for a base but my idea is a village surrounding the castle and every build is gonna be small but the castle is huge (60x30) is that a good idea since you said not too big
@LeonSBU
@LeonSBU Жыл бұрын
i think this can definitely work! if you're familiar with hermitcraft, this idea reminds me a lot of BDoubleO's base from season 7 - he built an outlying village first, and then later went in and added a huge castle on a hill. so i'd suggest making the village first, if you burn out on the castle (which sounds like it would be a larger project) you'll still have a cool village build!

@@LeonSBU thanks for the tips i would start working on the village but i wont wait for the end to put the castle since its a working one it would have the chest erea and auto smelter so i will need it pretty soon but it could wait since i still have the starter erea

ah yeah, if you're putting infrastructure items in the castle like farms and storage, it's definitely worth building up some of it first :)

Building a village is exhausting enough, i can't imagine myself being that crazy and make mega base😵 I chose to be a builder because I never get bored, however, we as Artist, we are prone to burn outs. I learned from my first attempt to build a village is to gather, A LOT of materials first and create a good storage area...but my second time creating a village, yeah it turns out good but what bothers me is the unorganized blocks in my inventory and my chests. Worst, if you play bedrock edition, it consumes alot of your time just to craft a bunch of stairs or any blocks.

mega bases are nuts! i sometimes feel like the pressure on creators to build massive bases encourages an unhealthy perspective of one's own minecraft builds, that if we aren't building on that same scale our builds aren't "good enough" - as much as i think huge builds are cool, i also don't want to encourage that mentality
