@@ForKnFifties due to a hurricane and FEMA deemed my apartment building uninhabitable and 4 apartments including myself, had less than a week to leave. So, I was then homeless, still working everyday, no family and no friends that were in any shape themselves to help and my vehicle was all I had. It costs more to be in that situation, trying to eat semi-healthy, shower to maintain a job, try to find safe places to park to sleep, gas constantly moving around, then I constantly had vehicle repair issues as I was putting a lot more miles on it, wear and tear to the increase in usage, insurances both vehicle and health (more stress less restorative sleep, especially in Florida summers with no AC; health started to suffer because no where to adequately recuperate from even a slight cold/flu), etc. Definitely NOT by choice.

Just discovered your channel, and working my way through all your videos! I also had gotten myself stuck in an existence devoid of deeper meaning, and suffered in silence for years. Then, one morning, I woke up and right there I knew I couldn’t do it anymore - just like that. So I got rid of my possessions, gave my boss the finger, did up an old van, and walked away from it all. Ended up living on the roads for three years, amidst the beauty, splendour, silence and sheer majesty of Ireland’s Atlantic coast. It was a deeply transformative experience - precisely because it often challenged me in ways that I had never expected. I really feel your videos, since my own learning curve in the first few months on the roads was equally steep, and there were some pretty gnarly situations. But as time goes by, you learn and gain experience, and before you know it, it becomes your life and things get much easier then. My greatest respect to you - what you are doing takes courage and perseverance; but I think you are already beginning to see the inner transformation that this journey brings about, and for that it’s all worth it. My own life has gone into a different direction since, but I shall follow your channel from here on in! Stay safe out there, and take care of yourself (and the car)!

switch the corolla for a subaru outback. Has good awd. Can get 27-28mpg. Has a nice interior for sleeping or storing gear too.

To address the lack of activities, you could consider buying an inflatable kayak. You're definitely pretty full already, but considering the amount of use you could get out of it, it might be worth finding space for it! They pack down pretty small, and could stack on your back seat or in your truck when you're not sleeping

You know I lived in my car for one year and doing food delivery for work , I found a hotel parking lot that allowed overnight parking for truckers so I kind of blended in , in my compact car every night with all my car windows shades up . Only difficulty was winter time in the mid west is very very cold even going low as -5 degrees. So by December last year I moved back into a studio apartment. only advise I could give you is get a hybrid suv or crossover like a Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid or rav4 hybrid. Which ever is cheaper . Anyways I love your videos . Be safe out there . Take care

Have you thought about getting a hot logic? You can plug it in and use low energy to cook food. You can also be cooking food when you’re driving having it plugged into your car lighter or you can get a small power station if you don’t have one would be nice for you to be able to have hot meals. You can use it for heating things up also.

I think you’re brave and adorable, just found you and wish you so well on your journey, however long it lasts. I see the National Parks by being a tour guide with groups on buses, but you are REALLY seeing them while you’re young and flexible enough for your lifestyle. I strongly recommend adding honey to your peanut butter. I've had that same breakfast, for the same reasons (traveling and it's cheap protein). The honey is going to pep up that breakfast. Don't let the illegal parking worry you. A lot of those signs are just to discourage bums from setting up make-shift camps. I run around in a 27 foot RV and have gotten away with a whole lot. Two of my favorite repeat camps are illegal. One of the most beautiful moments of my life happened while camped illegally off the side of the road in Washington's peninsula; watching the ocean from my bed, with a couple of deer wandering in from the dunes. I've had some decent city camps too. Tillamook's Fred Meyer is fire!

Hi Angie, new sub here...I tried out car life for 2 wks after seeing it on youtube...I have the opposite problem...I'm not tall at all...only 5'2, HOWEVER I am not, well, thin (working on it) so doing that was difficult especially because well, when your extra stuff is on the travel pack on the roof and your only 5'2...AND no tin shape? Yea, it was VERY difficult the first few days, I did accumalate but at the end of 2 wks, my car totally broke down...been stuck AT HOME since February...so that has sucked...hoping to get a van this time...if I ever get the money for it...haven't been able to find a job...trying for disability (have a lot of health issues, type 1 diabetes) so while it was fun and made for great content...it was hard...i had fun tho...got great photos...and my cat enjoyed himself too lol...his first ever! (I also lost about 7 pnds, so that was a bonus!)

Late to the channel... Many of the hard cons come down to the vehicle, but you know that already. BUT, in terms of hot food, have you looked into cooking on the engine? Can have a hot mean when you arrive at your destination. Of course, doesn't work when you are staying at a location for a while. Also, in terms of friends- perhaps a low cost tent? I did 6 weeks mostly out of a tent back in 1991 when I was in college (my Honda was smaller than your Corolla, so I could never sleep in it). New ones pack tiny, so you could at least have space for a second person.

Oh...and btw...the bathroom! omg...that was the worst! I HATED getting out of my car in the middle of the night and going into creepy campground bathrooms or dealing w/all the bright lights, sounds and some creepy people at the truck stops/gas stations I stayed at...that's WHY I already have a portable toilet that I created and bought for any trips I will take in the future...in a van...I will never do car life unless it's cuz I don't have any other choice! Van life is better...more room!

I have a problem with the dirt roads with my car too, just slow going. I'm in the same make/ model car as yours. I've also visited all the areas that you pictured and more. A lot of people never get to visit those areas. This is why car camping/living is so worth it. It's a great alternative lifestyle. As well as banking that $$$$. Happy New Year.

You can cook inside! Get a small, very low wattage slow cooker. You want under 100W ideally so you don't risk blowing the 12v socket. Amazon has some that plug into the 12v socket. You can cook while you drive (make sure your engine is running or it will kill your battery). Make stew, hot sandwich fillings, etc. Likewise you can get a 12v immersion heater to heat water inside the car. Never plug these in unless it's in the water or you will kill it almost instantly.

You can add roof top carrier for space. I see alot of van lifer has roof top carrier and they have no issue with stealth camping. With roof top carrier you free up alot of space in your car you can invite your friend along in your car. I use thule rooftop carrier. It's pretty spacious.

A tent is a guest option. I love the Ozark Trail cabin, wall type tent for as little as $229 these days, but in a car that small it might not be the best choice to carry around, so whatever works. Have the guest bring a tent?

yay !!! we have the same yeti cooler! but different color. I found mine half off with scratches BUT! the inside is perfectly fine! all that matters :) Anyways, when I used the YETI, it lasted for about 4 days for me. I usually put in eggs and veggies. I'm minimal when it comes to meats.

Only pack small amounts of food that need to be refrigerated so in 2-4days when it's gone you don't have to get more ice. You just have to eat room temp food.. bars, caned chicken, pasta, ect.

People need to know what the up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others KZbinrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their KZbin channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Consider Carrying Several Extra portable cellphone phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission. Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in the *WINTER* *vehicle *Batteries fail* many times in very cold weather conditions. Vehicle batteries drain more often in the winter months. Please Keep a vehicle battery portable jumper pack, this is a device that can jumper or boost your vehicles battery yourself without another vehicle. If you have a older battery in your vehicle, Please have it tested or replace it, and consider the purchase a new vehicle battery with higher Cold Cranking Amps rating. Be Aware that Sometimes even a battery that is a few years old can fail in the Winter months, and extremely cold temperatures. Some alternatives to Winter Camping, Travelers, Explorers, etc, if you can find a Warmer Climate Location to stay during Extreme Winter months, or stay with family for a few weeks. Another alternative is renting somewhere although this can probably get expensive. What ever you decide Be Careful, Alert, Aware, Safe, and Informed... *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy *Smoke detectors, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful Keep a First Aid kit with Bandages, antiseptic, and other first aid necessities etc. and good vitamin supplementation, and fluids that promote hydration. Consider installing; *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. *Exterior vehicle mounted camera for the front, rear, and both sides of your vehicle. Some can be activated by motion, Including spotlights. *Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *Keep a Sound horn, for hiking this can service, as a deterrent, and a emergency signal alert for others. *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies, you can keep with you when hiking. Use your own discretion regarding the use carrying of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed Purchase a couple canisters just in case and keep it with you If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. *VERY IMPORTANT* *WINTER AWARENESS* I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, or cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services. Please Keep in mind that even in area where there is cellular service and internet, in the Winter sometimes there are ice storms that may occur and this can cause Power or Electrical failures, until utilities crews repair lines. *Your Safety is Important* *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in some extreme cold temperatures that vehicle fuel lines could Freeze and causing a vehicle to not start. Just in case Keep your gas tank filled, which helps prevent vehicle fuel lines from freezing. Keep gas or fuel line additive, or gas line antifreeze, that is rated to use okay for your vehicle. Check with your a certified mechanic and your vehicle owners manual, and or dealer repair facility to inquire what is best to prevent freezing gas tank and lines in extreme cold. In the Winter even your bottled Water can freeze so Be Careful and Plan ahead. *Safety is Paramount* *Your Life is Important* *You want to Live to Travel another Day* *So Be Safe* *Stay Alert* *Keep your vehicle gas filled* Don’t ride on fumes, or on Empty. Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant, Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze). You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads. *WINTER AWARENESS* In the winter consider purchasing and deicing Windshield Washer Fluid, for the much colder weather conditions. Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions. Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving. Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set at a home base, friends or family’s house to rotate later on, also make sure that you have a spare tire in your vehicle. Hey bothered have you considered removing you front passenger seat for more space maybe a small indoor toilet setup or a multi use kitchen and storage box ? There plenty of space there .. for anything

I have definitely reevaluated my need for the front seat. When I was creating my set up I did not want to take it out, but now that I have some experience, I think I just might! You're right, there really is space for anything if you make it!

I have no idea about your financial situation. Here are some thoughts from somebody who lived in a minivan for two years in cities while holding jobs. Minivans are better than cars for living. They fit in everywhere. If you want to remain in a car, switch to a Subaru Outback wagon with the lift package. Their all wheel drive is renowned AND they have slightly more clearance than most standard Jeeps. The problem with them (and all all-wheel-drive vehicles) is that if you ruin one tire, all four must be replaced at the same time. If you find that your sleeping spots are mostly away from cities, you could get a 5'X8' trailer to tow behind your car. Sleep in the car or the trailer. It would give you space for a bicycle and a small kayak or a small motorcycle. Your fuel consumption would drop to 18 mpg or maybe a little more. You would be more comfortable. I lived in a car for three months. The most comfortable way to sleep was in the fully reclined passenger seat. A pillow was placed in the bend where it reclined. My laundry bag was put in the footwell to elevate the legs. I put a sleeping bag over the seat and bag in the footwell. The position was just a little bit reclined. I was capable of turning over and sleeping on my side. I always felt very comfortable sleeping in that front seat. If you get a bicycle rack and leave a bicycle on it at night; it is only a matter of time before some criminal will try to steal it. Keep having fun. When it's time to quit, you'll know. Then a few years later you will want to do it again.

When you go to the bathroom in the woods why do you dig a hole? The bears and moose etc. make a much larger mess and they just walk away. It’s really just fertilizer. Save yourself the time and effort and do the same. I have also found ice coolers more efficient than my portable fridge.

I have a Bluetti AC200P and 2, 100w flexible solar panels. It is 61 lbs but stores a lot of power. I also have a Jackery 1000. 22 lbs and it also does a great job.

I don't know that a roof rack totally screams living in your car. Honestly out-of-state license plates plus a roof rack just look like someone on holiday. Park in an area with hotels and stuff and you're all set. I don't live in my car, but as far as I'm concerned, the addition of the rack turned my Hyundai Elantra into a cargo-hauling truck. It could fit your choice of 2: cargo box (ski style)/bike/kayak/surfboard or a single canoe (though clever space use could probably fit more stuff inside the canoe). And if you ever find yourself with the time, resources, and desire to build a tiny house or something, I've also hauled all kinds of building materials on it.

Hello Miss Angie! I understand the sacrifices you made to live in a small car. Would have never guessed you are 5 feet nine inches tall. Hey there is nothing wrong eating peanut butter . I eat it every day with 2-3 handfulls of peanuts. Plus I eat 6 Garlic Triscuit Crackers every day for fiber content. And I eat right out of the box Bran flake cereal for my vitamin content. In the morning I eat oatmeal with yogurt and green gapes in it. I use to eat fresh eggs from my chickens but when cold weather set in -they stop laying. About your funny bone- invest into an elbow pad for that area. I believe football players use them. I myself are a few inches taller than you. So i guess i would fit well in a toyota. corolla.
