@@SkoolDoggeryDo Staffordshire Bull Terrier dogs smell as I know certain dogs have that doggy odour. Also how often are you supposed to bath them?
@SkoolDoggery
@SkoolDoggery 4 ай бұрын
@@rachelbailey-no2pp Because they have short hair they don't retain too much smell. They will have their own scent to them, but a well looked after staffy won't smell too much at all. Bathing can be down to how often they get mucky, I tend to give Freddie a bath once every 2 weeks and he goes to the groomers once a month. We have a whole video on helping dogs go to the bath if it helps kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLEYWSridZ1eJYsi=sKBkQ0AWW2Ddauuq

I agree on the stubborn part. My Amstaff was a handful when she was young. But when she turned 3 years old she has been just an amazing dog that is very easy to live with. She is confident and doesn't fear anything. Just a marvelous dog!

but don't assume that just waiting will "cure" it. It's just that then he or she might stop the constant rule bending and accept his or her place.

An Amstaff is not the same thing as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier...They were broken off The American Pit Bull Terrier....Colby had dual registered one of his Best looking American Pit Bull Terrier as Both a Pit Bull/AmStaff....this dog became the standard for the AmStaff...and was bred mostly for show..However over time it started to look a slight bit different than the American Pit Bull Terrier. But without the American Pit Bull Terrier the AmStaff would not exist.

My staffordshire bull terrier left a mark on me that will NEVER leave me. Once this breed is engaged and loved they are quite simply The very best. The most beautifully tempered loving girl. Unf she did get hip dysplasia which developed quickly age 13. Over the course of about 3 months progressed from wobbling to completely limp. This was heart breaking and she had to be put asleep. I subsequently started pet sitting as I wasn't ready to commit to another yet. I then got a staffordshire/bully mix which given the bully reputation I was hesitant admittedly but goodness was I wrong. She was the most loving dog with such pure character. She was in an accident and died young which broke my heart. I love all dogs but I definitely have a soft spot for the cheeky yet LOYAL, LOVING nature of this breed and I will always cherish the memories. I myself had reservations. Ignorance is bliss. I have witnessed this breed have an impact on people they never imagined. All sensibly and if you intend for your dog to be included in your family as a member 💯 I can't express enough the pure love and devotion this dog will be the most amazing addition to your family that you could pray for 😢

I have a 9 month old Staffy and she is the smartest most loving dog I've ever had, everyone in the neighborhood during our walks love her too. I live in Hawaii which the Pitbull is basically the State dog so nobody here freaks out about the bully breed.

I got a staffy, and let me tell you… puppy stage is something else 😅 My 13 week old has an incredible amount of energy and attitude. She nips like crazy and gets the zummies. When she gets wound up, it’s hard to calm her down to leash her, or grab the ball to play fetch. 😂 But I’m sure it’ll all be worth it in the end.

My female staffy bully xl mix is a handful she definitely has been trained from when ive bought her at 8 weeks .. shes a service dog .. but at home we let her be ofcourse her recall is on point her prey drive is insane she kills rats around our backyard we let it be its in their dna better in a safe environment also getting engery out playing rough play as the do with our other dog a rottsheperd mix few months younger than her . Bonded great ❤ Gets overprotective but definitely knows she doesnt run the home. Be firm assertive and also show affection and love. Advise prong walking. They do pull.
@SkoolDoggery
@SkoolDoggery 13 күн бұрын
I would always advise against prong collars I’m afraid. Pulling can be sorted with training, I see so many people not train them then wonder why they pull.

Same besides the pulling ... she's 20 months She is also half bully xl .. They love rough playyyy She plays very rough with her step brother we adopted 6 months ago a rottie sheperd mix .... she loves sheperd mix her best female friend is a sheperd mix and she always instigates rough play with them.... we have a huge backyard so energy goes out ... she's 55lbs all muscle . Be more firm and invest in a prong and say good bye to pulling hard

This breed isn't for you if 1. You work too much and don't have a dog sitter or another dog to keep them company. 2. You're not a high energy person because they definitely have tons and tons of energy they need expelled almost everyday 3. You live in a small space. 4. You have thin patience. They can be very hard on the nerves sometimes, particularly when they're young. 5. You don't like a lot of attention. They're very affectionate dogs like he said in his video. They will demand your attention.

Hello, We have earlier had a golden retriver and our second dog was a rhodesian ridgeback.Our ridgback passed away about 12 years ago. We have now gotten on a bit in age. What used to be a percfect match may no longer be so. I am now 64 years old and have retired. My partners is 9 years yonger than I am but she has problems with arms and shoulders. In my view, the ridgeback is still the best and the most beutiful dog in the world. But given our conditions, it may sadly no longer be the best fit. We have not yet decidede to get a new dog, but as I am now retired we have talked about it. The breeds we have discussed are, German pincher Staffordshire bullterrier Continental bulldog We are not high energy people. We will go on at least one 30-60 minutes walk each day as well as a few shorter potty breaks. In addition we will occasionally go on longer hikes. Probably several hours. If we get a new dog we would like it to be ok with our less active days but still manage to keep up on our more active days. We would like the dog to be protective and guard our house. I strongly believe that the german pincher will best fulfill that role. The main task of the dog would of course be to be a pet. Probably the staffy will be the best for that. We are a bit concerned that both the staffy and the german pincher will be a bit high in their energy level. Therefore we think that perhaps the continental bulldog is the best fit. I would appreciate your comments on most suitable breed. B.R, Anders

Hi there. I will always recommend a Staffy to everyone as they can fit most of those requirements. They seem to meet the exercise level you can provide and have some guarding tendancies. However if you want a dog that will guard your home, its always best to take on a little extra training to make sure they know when to stop being protective. For example you need to be able to tell them 'thats enough' if they bark at the postman. So it can depend on how well you can train them to work with their breed traits.

@@SkoolDoggery What can you say about their tendency to chase wild animals? I like to handle my dogs off leash in the wild. Even if there may be wild animals around. Will that work with a staffie? It worked just fine with my earlier dogs.
@SkoolDoggery
@SkoolDoggery 9 ай бұрын
They are curious about wild animals and do have a reasonably strong prey drive. We work on recall with our staffy every day incase we find ourselves in a situation like that and I’d trust him to come back, but only after several years of training.

Only thing i do is put something in a kong every morning before i leave. They need a good amount of exercise every day though so not for potatoes.
