I am forwarding this to my neighbor right now. Sunday night the woman next door in my apartment building came over to see my new chair. I was adjusting my bookshelf antenna and she asked don't you miss cable? I said no of course. Michael I still have my cable bill from June 2021 when I quit. It was 223.76 a month for Xfinity triple play. I still pay $70 a month for Xfinity Internet, but now pay less than $20 a month for Hulu, Disney and Paramount. I get peacock premium for free from Xfinity. They all come with ads except Disney, I don't mind! After all these years I finally feel like I'm not being ripped off! 🙂👍👍👍👍

This is perfectly timed! Spectrum just sent me some official-looking ("Do Not Bend", Important Notice) piece of mail that was literally just a "Please come back and pay us for cable!" I restrained myself from calling the response phone number with some ideas about what they could do to themselves.

Interesting as I had the same experience with Frontier. I dropped them and signed up with Spectrum (!!!) for cabled internet only as I still needed a hi-speed internet connection for work (1.5 more years until retirement). Hopefully at the end of that the wireless internet connection services will be more reliable in my area. FWIW: I thought Spectrum/Charter Communications was getting out of the cable TV 'game' to focus on wireless as they have a deal for mobile phone services with Verizon right now and may start their own wireless network (or purchase a smaller one) in the near future.

I can't imagine us going back to cable. Haven't had it since about 2011. Lived with just a crank up antenna on our MH for six years when we traveled full time. Now that we are settled again our only issue is the cost of the internet.

My main reason for never considering Cable TV again is the lack of portability. I travel a good bit between homes in different states, the flexibility of streaming services is key. One of the things that I wish I had known before doing the streaming switch was that I should have signed up in the State that has no State Sales Tax instead of the State that does.
@TheGQBrotha

The problem with streaming TV is the prices have kept on rising and you have to still have an internet service provider. So you will still be paying those two bills, just separately. In addition on KZbin TV you have to pay an additional $20 per month for 4K. So the savings people used to see on Streaming TV vs cable bundle has quickly dried up. It was always a case of it was too good to be true when Streaming TV started and the prices that were offered, now they are becoming cable TV price wise and that is without a bundle package that includes internet service. If KZbin TV had internet service to go along with it, I would switch to them.

I don't agree. I personally like live TV instead of just on demand programs. With at&t between Internet and direct TV i used to pay every month 250-260 dollars on 3 tv sets. The on demand selection was limited to what networks would make available and most of them were not free. I kept Internet (50 dollars including taxes) and i moved to KZbin tv which is 65 dollars. I get the same amount of channels (that i watch. Maybe with direct TV i would get many more, but stuff that i never watched). I can stream on 6 TV sets at the same time. Unlimited recording. I can watch TV or my recordings wherever i am, all i need is my smartphone with me. Plus much more free on demand than cable. Cable is far from being convenient...i wish i had cut it much sooner.

About a year ago I was paying $226 for Xfinity triple play. Now: Paying $35 a month for Sling, no tax yet. $55 for Fios internet. Disney+ free for a year for switching to Fios. 4 months of Apple TV+ free through Target Circle. Hulu 30-day free trial. Normally I sign up for one on-demand service at a time.

I agree with your video 100%. When I dropped the TV part of my Cable provider, I was paying $270.00 dollars per month. I had just 1 premium channel, 2 DVR boxes(one for me and one for my parents), and the package to get all the popular channels. Also my Cable company keeps changing their NAME. It was WOW and now they are RCN or ASTOUND. Whether it makes any difference, I am not sure. Still won't go back to the TV part of Cable. I said to myself, this is crazy ridiculous pricing, plus many of the channels I hardly or never watched, but was still paying for them. Also as you say, we are always under contract with Cable companies. I am by myself now, so in early 2021 I dropped the TV part of cable, and now just pay for the High Speed internet which is $70.00 a month. Big savings for me. And now doing Streaming services which they have no contracts and can get the package that fits my needs. I also have an OTA antenna for my live TV. Just the cost of the antenna and can watch around 60 digital channels for free, no monthly charges. Thanks for your video and take care.

Streaming in our household since its inception in 2013, Sling TV has been our go to service. We had Sling and Netflix. In 2022, we have Sling TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Apple TV. Apple is free because of T-Mobile. The expense of cable and lack of variety was a factor in terminating services. We will never go back. The companies are slick because internet services are just as expensive. Thank you for the video. Have a wonderful day. ❤❤❤❤

Cable companies are so arrogant. In my case, they shifted around the packages and took away one of the channels that I watched, regularly. When I called them, they said I could have it back for $5 a month!. I said no, I have been paying for it for years and want it back. Of course, the answer was no. I said, I am paying you $1000 a year, for cable, and you won't give me a $5 channel? They said no. So I cancelled my cable. Incredible that they would give up $1000 for $60.

I never watch live sports. Why sit through the commercials? You can watch an NFL game in an hour less by FF through commercials and halftime. Furthermore, with YTTV if there's an NFL game that I want to watch, but not really, I can watch the "key plays" of the game in a fraction of the time.

I cut the cord ten years ago and briefly used Sling TV, but there are so many channels online that the 18 local digital channels I get with my antenna is enough. With a simple Internet connection and my amazon Fire Stick I get hundreds of free channels on Pluto, plus streams of Shout, Comet, Charge, Scripps News, Fox Weather, Positiv-TV, Bloomberg, Nasa, and others. There is also a ton of free content on KZbin that keeps me entertained for no extra cost, along with episodes of many shows on FreeVee and other websites. Many sports games (like college football and NFL) have free radio streams if the games are not on a network. I've saved a bunch.

What I do is I call up my cable company and threaten to terminate my service for an available alternative and they are quick to offer major discounts. Only thing is you have to call them every year to get the discounts and you obviously have to have alternatives and competition available in your area. Sorry, Michael. I'll never leave cable until I absolutely have to. When Google Fiber was installed in my neighborhood, Comcast knocked on my door and gave me an offer I'll never refuse. The price I pay for Comcast, which includes all my RSNs, HBO, equipment, 250 Internet, Peacock and every sports channel, is about $10 more per month than what I would pay FuBo (need it for PAC-12 Network), Google Fiber, HBOMax and Peacock. I completely hear you about broadcasting and RSN fees. Totally agree on that. I need live programming. No need to cut while I still need those live TV channel, mostly sports. When talking about buffering, any live sports I watch on Peacock or ESPN+ don't measure up, and there is a lag. I haven't lost a channel to a dispute in over 10 years. Your points about equipment, contracts or installations are definitely fair, but I don't have issues with any of those points.

I agree 100%, I had Directv for 15 years and had most channels memorized, but now have Sling, and they like some other iptv providers offer channels people love like The Weather Channel or News Nation but charge extra fees because those channels are not in their " basic" packages.. so iptv has ways to get you too.🙏

Honestly if it weren't for sports I wouldn't have live TV at all. If I could ever just give sports up I could save a TON of money because more & more I find myself turning to thins like KZbin to watch content. Also, this my be the cynic in me but I think that people who go on these comments (not just this channel) and say they might as well go back to cable after every rate hike might actually work for cable companies. Sure rate hikes suck & that hike may have you making decisions on how important that service is to you. However anyone doing any real objective look at it can see that cable companies rates aren't staying stagnate so at some point any rate hike by a live TV streaming service will also be done by the cable company so you are still saving money over cable.

At least from my observations the big four ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC have also really reduced the quality of their shows especially scripted TV. Quite literally all I'm getting from the primary channels is morning News! If it weren't for the fact of my grandchildren living under our roof, I would have already dropped KZbin TV. Since I already have Paramount Plus with no commercials and it streams a lot of Nickelodeon content considering they own it. It gets very frustrating to have this doubling or even tripling because we also have Hulu of content. It's gotten to the point where the majority of our viewing, speaking for my wife and myself, is on KZbin. Fortunately we also have had since day one KZbin Premium FKA Red. We've cancelled a few services: Apple+, Sling (we had Sling + YTTV), Discovery+, EPIX, PBS Masterpiece, AMC+, and Starz. However, we can always turn them on and off again for binging. However, since I'm crystal clear that I'm not the only one who thinks about this and worse people share subscriptions. I think in the end something's going to have to give. You're either going to end up with lousy low quality shows or these companies are going to crack down on short-term activation and in particular sharing. Frankly, they should lock down an IP address to prevent sharing; It's clearly harming content creation.

You say you don't have to wait for equipment with streaming, but where are you getting your Internet service? If you're still in business with your cable company for Internet then you're still their customer and you simply pick up the boxes from their local retail location or they send it free of charge, or use a cable cad with your own DVR if you don't want to pay their monthly DVR rental & service fees.

Most good content. I had KZbin tv for, at the time, $65.00 Then add the $90 Cox Internet service price, which is a must have for streamer, & the price gets more costly. I switched to Dish who gave me a $300 gift card, which actually lowered the price below KZbin. The experience is better with the built in DVR and I never get buffering. After the 1st year the price has increased, since I couldn’t take off the initial $300. I’ll look again at KZbin if I get another rate hike, but it’s something to consider if Dish offers the $300 come on once again.

I cut the cord 10 years ago. I will tell you why my bill kept going up without my authorization, only had 1 box and like most people only watched about 5 channels, there were 4000 channels of complete garbage, every commercial break was the same 3 commercials they were new cars or trucks no one can afford, car insurance and new cell phones. That got old real fast. It also seemed like my cable would get digital break up or freeze right in the middle of a show. I constantly had to call the cable company when I lost signal and when you finally get through to somebody they can't even hardly speak english. Waiting around for a technician all day is no fun either. I was so fed up one day I ripped the cable box out of the entertainment center turned it in and never looked back.

One thing I did hear on a podcast recently that kind of made the case for cable is if you are a huge sports fan. Like sports is your main source of entertainment, the cable bundle is still your best value. Mainly because most of the channels that carry the games are still on cable. Especially if you are a fan of teams on the regional sports networks, since many of those don't stream (yet). This isn't me, but it's an interesting perspective I hadn't really considered. Keep up the great work Michael.

I would love to cut the cable, but cannot because of my parents and their need for international Chinese channels. Cable has really conditioned them to just punch in the channel number on the remote and be done. And they are at the age where they will have a difficult time relearning how to navigate through a streaming service.

I have not been on Cable for over a year....I Will not go back to Cable.....I don't think TBS is worth anything....the CMT and VH1 is gone....Ion used to be my favorite...than Criminal Minds is now gone....HBO and Showtime went down too... There is no live sports without commicals...so why have it?

Number 1 reason for me other than all the fees.....commercials. The same goes for YTTV and all the rest. Yeah I could and do record to get around commercials but I prefer on demand content w/o commercials.

I got the Roku 11.5 update and it screwed up the picture. It’s dark when you watch tv on all the apps. I had the Roku since 2020, and it sucked in Canada compared to the US. Lacking features and it doesn’t even have all the Canadian channels. It’s still missing Citytv, and CBCGem, the only 2 Channels I need to drop my close to $300 dollars a month cable. The Roku channel was getting good, and the device itself is getting some good features, and Pluto tv is coming in December. And now Roku had to screw up the picture. Is AppleTV any good? I know it has all the Canadian channels, but do you know how many years an AppleTV would last and if you could get a good third party remote for it?

Also in Canada and very pleased that Pluto TV is launching here on Dec. 01, 2022. Two years ago I cancelled cable which was $130.00 /month ($1,560.00 /year). Antenna installed for $130.00 total to brings in 41 channels of local stations and U.S. OTA broadcasters. My ROKU TV came with ROKU Channel streaming service and I've added additional FREE services; KZbin, TED, CBC, Sky News, Tune-In, Fawesome, PLEX, People TV, NFB One, Tubi, Filmrise, Filmrise British TV, Global, CBS News. I have Amazon Prime membership for free delivery of Amazon packages, so I consider the Amazon Prime Video service to be free with my subscription. The only service I pay for is Netflix. If I watched TV 24 hours per day, I couldn't watch a fraction of what I have available.

Buy a replacement or universal streaming remote for Apple TV on eBay or Amazon. Or you could reset Roku and try update again.

All of the above misses the issues of a TERRIBLE QUALITY PICTURE from most of the live streaming channels. I have tried youtube twice, and the 4K option is a joke, and the quality of their daily picture is "officially" Hgh Def, but is not even as good as old CRT from an antenna transmission. Apple TV has Fantastic 4K streaming ability, but I am not able to get as much of the live sports I would like to have through Apple TV. I dislike my Comcast because it goes out all the time, for minutes, and there is never an explanation. I will consider a change, but when it's working, the routine comcast picture is near 4K, and when you have spent the money for a quality TV, it's hard to go back to the grainy live TV picture that is just unacceptable from youtube. youtube is a great bargain choice when Live TV picture quality doesn't matter. I would gladly pay the upcharge for 4K TV from youtube....if they had any real availability for 4K. It's just not there.

Can you call and get a lower rate? If you're not planning to move soon, may be worth it. T-Mobile and Verizon's 5G home internet services are adding competition to the mix -- so I'm actually seeing better offers for fiber and cable internet lately.
@WoodgemanX
@WoodgemanX 2 жыл бұрын
I hate Comcast's guts, but with competition in my area, I'm paying $29 for 300Mbs down, 20Mbs up. Have my own $20 Linksys cable modem a $5 750AC router. Told them where to stick their free Flex streaming box. Same thing goes for their Xfinity Mobile offers and XB7 modem/gateway, and home security. I have a one year commitment, and the price is guaranteed for two years. But I'll be dropping them after one year to switch to Verizon 5g home internet for $25/month or GoNetSpeed fiber internet symmetrical 500Mbs download/upload speeds for $39.95.
