@@blakespower It's one fewer hop from the TV to your ears, which lessens the time delay. For another, many TVs don't have bluetooth support, and have a limited number of composite out and headphone jacks anyways. There's a a few reasons why more than one person might want to "private listen" at the same time including somebody else in the house that's trying to study or just wanting the improved isolation that it can provide.
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade Жыл бұрын
@@thatguyalex2835 I wish more TVs would come with the ability to delay the picture by a split second to make up for that. At present, the best you can usually do is turn off as much of the processing as you can and hope it's enough. I remember when playing Rocksmith, that I had to do some funky wiring in order to get the delay close enough for the game to be playable.

The best thing on the Roku app for me is getting to use wireless headphones with an older tv that doesn’t have Bluetooth capability built-in or a Roku remote with a built-in headphone Jack. But it doesn’t work on hotel networks for me which I hope Roku can fix one day.

I got a Roku (That I guess I really over paid for), while visiting the US recently. Given it was the Cheap 40$ dongle thing, that costs less than 20€s here for. It never had a Headphone Jack. My nVidia Shield Pro (2015), Remote however does. Though TBF the Roku Express is very pocketable, unlike the Shield. Hopefully I'll be able to get my VPN Service off my Phone, and into the wider LAN soon to take advantage of having a US based Roku. Again not nowing that that side was less Hardware, and more of an Internet Setup side, of it.

@AlbertaStrength There is plenty of free Channels on Roku as well as the major Streaming Services. Besides the Roku Channel, and the movies to be found there-in it also has Pluto TV, which is more or less the same thing. As someone who has used an nVida Shield (Android TV), these last five years. I have to say, that I find the UI, of the Roku to be more simplistic, and less cluttered than that of Googles Android TV Platform.

You may want to add an extra disclaimer to the private channels section or just remove it entirely. Roku shutdown/removed all the private channels back in February and replaced it with a beta system that limits the amount of users. There may be a few that seem like they can be added but they will just bring you to a 404 page when you try to add them.

Wow I already knew this stuff. You forgot to mention for blind people, I am blind, but specifically blind people who are totally new to the roku and just got it, there is a screen reader. If you showed that in another video, great! But if you haven't, well, then, other blind viewers might be confused because they didn't know it had a screen reader. Since you're not blind, you might not be used to a device reading something to you, it will drive you crazy, but the screen reader is there for a reason, it's because there are blind people who use it. It needs to be accessible with screen readers, and luckily, it is. I've played around with these things. Hopefully you understand the accessibility needs for us blind people, and can possibly make a video to other blind people about how to use the roku with a screen reader. Unfortunately, for those who are blind and speak more than one language, the roku only supports english for the screen reader, but that really doesn't matter to me, because I only speak english. But yes. It is accessible. You press the star button for times to turn it on, and the same to turn it off. I do get frustrated when I have to use a virtual keyboard with it, because I hate virtual keyboards! LOL

Great video, thank you for posting. The best feature you did not mention in your list is the voice recognition feature when you press and hold the mic down. You can find almost anything and Roku does a pretty good job at giving you all the options within roku. I have been using a Roku ultra since 2014. I didn’t know I could customize the menu like I could the icons!! Nice!! I also use the app. Yes a must download. Also I you have AirPods, put your AirPods in, open the app and hit the audio button!! Your tv in your AirPods!! Use it all the time!! Another thing I use wireless display. On a windows 10 computer right click on the desktop and go to display settings/ down at the bottom click connect to a wireless display. It search’s and the Roku will show up as long as you are on the same network and your computer is now on your Roku. Works perfect for throwing something on your tv from your computer.

I bought my first Roku 3 years ago, mainly because of the USB input so I could attach an external hard drive to watch videos... home videos that I transferred from my old Hi8 video tapes (boy that was a lot of work... HAH !)... and DVD's that I ripped to MP4's. Bought another one for my other TV that my wife mainly watches... we have taken a Roku 3 on vacation for years to watch stuff with family member instead of screwing around with rental homes & hotels TVs and cable providers. Just bought a Roku Ultra, and gave one of my Roku 3's to my brother to enjoy. I do prefer a Roku box instead of a Roku TV or a "smart TV"... I like the portability of the Roku Box ! I wish I could screen mirror from the Roku to my PC (to record stuff), but I would probably need an HDMI input on my computer ?

That is one of the things I like most about the Roku is that I can just unplug and disconnect it from my TV, and throw it, it's small power supply and a HDMI cable in my suitcase when I'm travelling, then connect it to the internet (and a TV) wherever I am and continue watching without any interruptions or drama. The USB input for an external hard drive was one of the reasons I initially bought a Roku, so I could watch TV shows, movies, etc that I had already downloaded to my computer. I started to love it's interface and ease of use later on because of it. I've used a Firestick, multiple android boxes and Apple TV boxes since then, and none can compare in my opinion.

The main factor for choosing my first Roku device was the private listening option. I was trying to choose between the Amazon 4k stick and the Roku 4k stick, both on sale for around $25 on black Friday sales, but couldn't decide on one. I then found the Roku Ultra Lt with the headphone jack built into the remote for $30. As someone who is on a different sleep schedule than everyone else in my house this was the best choice for me, well worth the extra $5. I haven't gotten around to using it much yet though. (The main reason for even getting a streaming device in the first place was so I could turn my gaming consoles off when I just want to watch something, but so far I've noticed some negatives using the Roku. I'm not sure if it's the device being used or the company behind the app, but one of the main ones I watch (free with ads) has many more ads on the Roku compared to my xb1, which kind of partially defeats the purpose of getting the Roku in the first place as I'll probably stick with console to watch it.)
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade Жыл бұрын
It's worth noting that the Android app does support private listening, so there's no need to do that with the controller. I haven't tried it with multiple connections, so I don't know if 2 people can be using that when there are other people that don't want to be disturbed.

I have owned 3 versions of the ROKU device, which were HD stick, HD desk box and 4K stick. Each one after some weeks have failed due to overheating. When the 4K version failed it displayed an on-screen notification of dangerous overheat. When I went to remove the device it was very hot, close to catching fire. The fact that there was a warning suggests to me they know there is a problem. I have now switched to Amazon's Fire stick which works well, but with slightly less channels and barely even gets warm, and never hot.

The Roku 4 does have a setting in the menu to help it run cooler by running it's internal fans more often. I opened mine and replaced the CPU paste, and it ran a lot better (and cooler). I also put some plastic feet on it so it had airflow underneath. Weird that that model is the one with the most problem overheating, yet it uses the biggest case yet, at least mine does.

Thanks for sharing. I've had my Roku no more than 2-weeks and just this weekend when I decided to hook up the soundbar and subwoofer to my tv I ended up damaging the tv.

Most of these I found by accident, I got the app because my remote quit then just yesterday found out that I could mirror just didn’t know what it actually was the problem I have is picture quality! Picture quality takes a while to go from all fuzzy to Almost 1080p but not sharp a little fuzzy! I am working with a Roku 1 if Santa hears my plea I’ll have something better since all my others are hand me downs including the huge smart flat screen !

THANK YOU for the great tips! Where do I get the info on the remote finder? My 80-year old mother has a bad habit of misplacing hers so we use the Roku app when she does. The wireless headphones with the app was a game-changer! Looking forward to more info! I love the remote app and use bluetooth headsets or wired headphones. But the #1 issue I have is it stops playing all the time. Not sure if it's the app or a setting on my phone.

I wish there was a way to edit the aquarium screensaver. We have a roku tv in our lobby. On the occasion that it reverts to the aquarium screensaver, I wish we could put our company logo on the "roku" rock in the aquarium. I realize that's science fiction, but I can always dream.

Caleb, new user here. Great video! Quick question off the rails sorry. What is the reason for the blue light behind your right side? Is it to improve camera white balance or just aesthetic? Thanks.

I tried screen mirror and it didn't work for me. I wanted to use an app screen mirrored and the only thing that worked was the audio track. I got a message saying that the content was not compatible with my device. Also note that if you use your smartphone as a remote control, it needs to be compatible to use infrared signals to the roku box or device.

Very good description but for a guy like me that's advanced in this field your people that follow your marring advice you forgot to tell them that if if they are waiting a movie and your phone has a shut down of 8 I think ts n9w used to be an hour to continue to watch the movie you have to tou h your phone to keep it activated into the movie so best advice I have plug your phone in before mirroring an app for max movie time

I have my first and last Roku TV. I have a Roku and Google TV’s side by side. The Google TV uses the cable remote while the Roku requires the Roku remote. The only App I use on the Roku is ESPN to watch reruns now n now. About the only thing I watch on the Google TV is Amazon Prime or Tubi.

You seam to know most. After watching your videos I bought a Roku Express 4K. I set it up at home first. I struggled to get the remote working but succeeded using a different manufactures setting. I then put it in my RV and although I was able to connect the Roku to my cell phone as a hot spot, I got both green check marks, but attempting to select channels and videos they would play for a moment then the screen goes blank and the Roku reboots. I was under the impression that this should work. Am I doing something wrong or did the advertisements misled me?

I wish the roku would power down when I turn off the tv. there's zero good reason for it to stay on even if it's on "low power" it doesn't take away from the fact that the device stays hot AF which cannot be good for it in the long run. I've recently set it to turn off after 20 minutes but that's still unnecessary, just turn off right away. The app is great because you can use your headphones/earbuds with it and listen privately so you don't run the batteries down on the remote quickly via headphone jack. I just wish it could be spatial audio or higher bitrate audio compatible for those movies and shows that offer better quality audio than just stereo
