Supporting animal breeding for pets is evil. The shelters are overrun with unwanted animals because humans domesticated animals. Adopt or foster unwanted animals it is so much more rewarding saving these innocent creatures.

Yes, but it's okay if they want a specific breed. Bad breeders are, well, bad. Also, some people can't adopt from a shelter, due to allergies. Siberian cats are hypoallergenic and they are almost never in shelters. I belive as long as you have a good breeder it's ok. But if you can adopt you should.

How "reputable" can a Munchkin cat breeder even be when these businesses are such explicit cash grabs selling Instagrammable toy-looking animals and the "breed" isn't recognized by most cat associations because it is simply a limb deformity. I'm glad to see cultural attitudes starting to change and over-bred, purposeless, less than functional lap/purse pet breeds like pugs slowly getting banned by international show animal associations, hope the momentum continues until we stop disfiguring animals for looks. I'm sorry the achondroplasia, worsening joint/bone issues and somewhat reduced lifespan didn't come up in your research before you became a cat parent! There is something very seriously wrong with you. You are either an animal abuser or supporting animal abuse. In all likelihood, you have significant mental health problems and are in need of a mental health evaluation and treatment.
@HappiSabi2 жыл бұрын
Number 1 reason: It's animal cruelty. The fact that people can't see this is a huge issue is problematic. They're not forever cute baby kittens. They are bred on purpose with a genetic mutation related to dwarfism that gives them shorter front legs and it is illegal in many countries. Most common issues with them are osteoarthritis, spinal and rib malformations, lordosis and scoliosis and many other. They also can't jump the way normal cats can for a twofold reason, both because of their deformities but also their deformities are so painful. Breeding animals for exaggerated physical characteristics, particularly when it compromises overall health, is irresponsible. People should place the long-term health and welfare of the animals above their need to watch something "look cute".

I have a munchkin. She doesn't want to be outside, she climbs rather than jumping to get on the furniture, she's not super clingy, plays constantly with her toys or whatever she finds, loves our dogs, watches our chickens out the door, and grooms herself fine. The only issue we've had is getting her totally litter box trained as sometimes she goes in corners. She doesn't like to be held except when sleeping on us in the recliner but does like to be petted. And she does hide when it's loud but peeks around the corner of the couch or wherever she is. So, I agree with some things in this video but not all of it.
@thechosenone97692 жыл бұрын
Is your kitty fixed? Are there cats outside of your house that are bothering your baby? Are there multiple litter boxes (the rule of thumb is one per cat plus one?) Are you properly cleaning the urine (enzyme sprays are good and if a spray has a strong smell it's most likely covering the smell not eliminating it?) Are you scooping the litter box regularly? Are you using scented or unusual litter? My cats refused to use the kind made from corn cobs. Do you change the kind or brand of litter often? Is there something causing anxiety in your kitty? Has s\he had her health checked. My youngest had a UTI and peed outside the litter box because it hurt for her to go. Health is the first thing to check and is a common cause. Is the litterbox short enough for her? Is there something different about the corners she goes in? Is it all on one wall or room? Is it all near exterior doors or in high traffic areas? Is it the dog's favorite spot or her favorite spot that the dog won't stay out of? Lots of things can cause issues with litter. Could you put a litter box in the corner\s she's been going in?

@thechosenone9769 so the fix was taking the top off the litter box. I had one that has a door they go in and come out the top so the grates on the lid knock the majority of the litter that may be on their feet back in the box. She hates it. Once I just left it like the old school boxes, she hasn't had any issues. She is spayed now. She does go out sometimes but only about 20 ft from the house and back. She'd still prefer to be inside majority of the time.

Naturally, Cats dont have shorter legs like the munchkins. It was a genetic mutation but then people started breeding them so that they can have more munchkins. Although they are cute and lovely, they require a lot of care and they wont be able defend themselves at all out there in a natural setting like other cats. Cats are not meant to be just indoors but partly outdoor as well cuz like us they also wanna feel the nature outside. Its sad why people would breed them. Love them and care for em, keep them indoors, have enough space for them, if u have them. All pets deserves to be loved. Dont breed cats with disabilities. Keep them natural.

I am always an "adopt don't shop" person so while I whole heartedly disagree with buying from a breeder when there are so many cats that need a new mommy, I don't think you should be guilty for getting a new baby. I hand raised a baby bird and had him for over a decade. He had a stroke and eventually died. I was devastated. It was a few months ago and the 2 cats I had with me are what kept me getting out of bed in the morning. My crying freaked them out at first but after a while my youngest started being worried for me. My oldest is still weirded out but last time I cried my youngest touched noses (it's how we give kisses in my house.) Before getting a cat make sure you look up cat body language. They communicate in a very different way than dogs do and in a much more subtle way. As a side note, I've seen regular kittens for as little as $5 in pet stores and free online. Kill and no-kill shelters are overwhelmed with cats and kittens constantly. You can save a life

@@xyz-mc5of I think music is a bit different in that different people have different preferences for it (I speculate based on my own observations that the same is true for animals, although obviously to a simpler degree and probably with much less diversity of preference; there seem to be some sounds/tonal combos and melodies that most animals will at least tolerate, and sometimes even enjoy. I'd speculate there's quite a bit of overlap between music that animals don't mind, and music that helps plants grow (really interesting topic to look into, might sound like BS if you're not familiar, but see it to believe it! Masaru Emoto also did similar experiments with water freezing and looking at crystal formation under a microscope). Now, for context I must say that I have lived with dogs for my whole life, and while I have indeed lived with cats, it was not for nearly as long (my mom kept selling the cats we got within a year just like the pet birds she'd get). So I have a lot more experience with dogs personally, but I have gotten a better intuitive understanding of cats ever since I found my true self beneath all the corrupted garbage I was fed and told to be growing up. So maybe the answer will be a bit clearer for me in the near future as I spend more time around cats at my friend's house while also making music.

Number one is exactly why I think breeding these is a bad idea. I love cats, we have six right now, all rescues except one. They are very very adorable mo doubt, but just look at what we've done to dogs. The English bulldog is a great example. They're probably my favorite breed of dog. I love their temperament, but they have tons of health issues and we're the ones who created them. Breeding for certain characteristics can seriously impact an anaiml's quality of life and can make it nearly impossible for them to care for themselves should they be separated from their owners.

1, 2 and 4 are also good reasons why thw munchkin cat should not exist. if a creature's genetic deformity is so severe that it would not survive in nature, is unable ro jump and can't even clean itself (two integral parts of being a cat), it should not be bred.

1) Not an issue? Literally most people do not let their cats outside since outdoor cats live shorter lives on average so why is this a negative? 2) I don't want a cat to get up on the kitchen counter. And even then it can get on couches fine 3) This...this isn't even specific to munchkins. Every single cat needs you to play with it. Why is this treated as specifically a problem with munchkin cats? 4) Again, this is not specific to munchkins. You should be brushing ANY cat weekly to prevent hairballs. Hell even twice a week. 5) AGAIN, NOT SPECIFIC TO MUNCHKINS!! Every single cat has a different personality that is usually not specific to the breed. I have had several cats of the same breed and some were needy while others were more independent. Seriously this is the third time in a row you have made a point that isn't specific to munchkins 6) Jesus fucking christ, this is just another point that is not specific to munchkins. Literally no cat I have had enjoys loud noises, hence why they have always hid with the vacuum and yelling 7) Of fucking course it is another point you are arbitrarily applying to munchkin cats. Yeah it should go without saying cats in general have a tough time with new additions to the household. It is because they feel like someone is encroaching on their territory or when you rearrange furniture or change up a room it feels like a new environment and can be a bit frightening. For anyone else reading this, I think this video did a great disservice on portraying munchkin cats because most of their problems weren't even specific to the munchkin and the only two specific "problems" aren't even that big of an issue because most cat owners keep their pets inside (which I reiterate is the best idea for them to live significantly longer) and most cat owners don't like their cats jumping up on the counter or dining room table. No wonder this video has this many dislikes

While Munchkin cats themselves can generally breed successfully, the risk of stillborn kittens or health issues can be higher due to the genetic factors involved. This is because the gene that causes the short legs (a form of dwarfism) can sometimes lead to complications in breeding, including skeletal abnormalities or problems during pregnancy and birth.

For people who don't know why people don't take their cat outside: the reason why people don't take their cat outside because some cat breeds are only indoor and if you take you indoor cat outside then it runs away from you because cats used to live in the wild but some cat breeds don't like being taken away from the wild and those stray cats are also trying to find the wild

I guess a munchkin cat and a dwarf cat are the same thing? Mine didn't come from a munchkin litter. He's a dwarf orange tabby that showed up in the litter. Though he doesn't have short legs, he can jump up on the couch and bed just fine. Other cats don't see him as a threat and does well when let outside. I've seen no problems with him grooming himself. 🐾

I know a munchkin who can jumps at least 4 1/2 feet and loves the window and tabletops.

Saved myself a lot of time using YouTLDW chrome extension so I didn't have to watch the vid for the info. 1. Indoor-only cat: Due to their short legs, Munchkin cats cannot defend themselves well outside. 2. Limited jumping ability: They can't jump to high places like other cats, which increases the risk of injury. 3. Requires playtime: They need more engagement from their owner to stay active since they can't entertain themselves like other cats. 4. Needs help grooming: They may require weekly or even daily grooming since they can't clean themselves as efficiently as other cats. 5. Separation anxiety: They prefer constant company and don't do well when left alone for long periods. 6. Prefer quiet homes: Munchkin cats thrive in calm environments and don't enjoy busy, noisy households. 7. Dislike change: They are sensitive to changes such as moving, adding new pets, or disruptions to their routine.

As long as you’re prepared for the responsibility of responsible cat ownership, I recommend having a cat.
@vineetdixit29282 жыл бұрын
Point #1 is so important, yet conflicting... it is so difficult for certain owners (like me) to enforce strict rules, when it comes to a kitty/cat's precious curiosity (with supervision, of course). Thank you so much, for all 5 of your reasons... #3 was interesting too - I wonder how they would socialize, or provide companionship for a (slightly) larger cat. These reasons gave me some great reasons to change my life to better meet my own (figurative) munchkin's needs 🙏😻

It also depends on one's circumstances as far as property. My sister has two but she lives out in the country on a property with literally hundreds of acres and no dogs or other predators around so hers are just fine to explore outside.

I have a nonstandard Munchkin which means her legs are almost as long as a regular cat. I also have a fat Manx they get along great. Munchkin kitties are awesome & way more chill than a regular breed cat. Not a lot of mischief or naughty behaviors. But way more needy than the average cat. My first munchkin & first girl kitty I’ve owned but the best & most well behaved by far. They are sweet & talkative too. Amazing breed!!

They are very cute, they also dont suffer like pugs, but I still don't like the idea of breeding in disabilities into animals. You might like a less mobile less independent cat but I'm sure they would have loved to be able to do what a normal cat can do.
