True. There's korats mixed in the video. Also, not all Russian blue cats are solid grey. Mine has a white set of paws and underbelly. However, she does act very russian blue. Has the 2 layers of fur, triangle head and black skin. Even her mouth is purple and black. They have Siamese traits. Hence the intelligence. And they weigh more than other cats. My cat's fur is mostly dark grey. Which does look blue in certain light.

A lot of inaccurate information here. Russian blues are on the list of cats that shed very little. And their temperament is quite the opposite of almost everything you listed. They are loving, but independent cats. The rest are just not good enough reasons.

Did I get a FAKE Russian Blue? My Russian Blue kitten is very independent. She wants to be left alone. She rarely meows. Sometimes I even forget I have a cat. She comes to me only when SHE wants to. She does NOT shed much. Overall, she’s a quiet, independent, snooty little princess. Beautiful and elegant. The only thing you said was true was she does like to clime and explore everywhere, which cat doesn’t?

Hi, that sounds pretty much like my Russian blue when he was a kitten. He wouldn't even let anyone touch him, except while feeding. He would always hide when someone came over. Right now he's 12 yo and the biggest cuddle I've ever had. It takes time, be patient ;)

My Russian Blue is the best. We got him from shelter pet partners as a "mixed breed" and had no idea what a Russian Blue was when we got him. (Purple paw pads, green eyes, solid gray, double coat of fur soft as a rabbit) Lots of people say they don't shed and they do a little bit but nothing like other cats I've had. He asks to be brushed with his rubber static brush that attracts hair several times a day. We only get a lot of fur on it when the season changes. He wants to be pampered, scratched, played with all the time. He is with us all the time even wants to spend his daytime sleep in whatever room we are in (He has a window ledge sleep box in every room). He knows words and can respond to questions like, Go for walk? by going to the door or, Go potty? by going to the door or bathroom. And Go for bath? By hiding under the bed. It is true he hates change and other cats. On a walk if he sees something out of place he'll walk as far away as he can to avoid the new thing. He is totally nocturnal. Hates going for daytime walks, only go after dark for him. He likes his routine the same, no new people in the house, no visiting pets although he may tolerate it, he hates it. And yes, he'll let us know if the litter box is not pristine. For that reason he prefers to urinate on the toilet and will scratch the seat till we come flush it for him. He has his own parkour course in the living room with a tree leading to a catwalk leading to the stairs and other parts of the house with jump off spots. He loves to bound to the top of that pole and leap from shelf to shelf that we staged along the wall for his delight. My Russian Blue doesn't talk much, I actually had to train him to "Use your words", ‘cause he would just look at it me and expect me to know what it is that he wants. Now he knows to meow, instead of scratch furniture to get my attention and lead me to the thing he wants. He also uses body language to say he's bored, head between paws, or wants to play, sit under the cupboard where the toys are kept or run to his "brushing station" and lay down by the brush. We love him so much he's the softest most gentle, never bites or scratches, loving kitty ever. Still playful at 8 years old. Best cat ever. One word of warning is to buy only the highest standards of any commercial pet food. This breed, especially males, are prone to bladder obstructions and must have the highest quality wet food. We prefer Darwin brand raw food specially designed for urinary maintenance. Its delivered to your door in dry ice. The folks at Darwin are the best. They will help you understand your pet's nutritional needs.

That electrostatic brush - does it hold the fur or does the fur go in the air too? I currently have a brush but it tends to get fur on me. Also, good job on working with your cat. I sort of inherited a Russian blue (that may or may not be pure Blue; but no matter, he has all the traits except he sheds a lot). I’ve set to working with him as he was such a solitary, almost feral cat. He is coming out of his shell, slowly. I’ve had him several months now and he finally had the zoomies this week. He does like arguing with my other cat but I’ll be honest, I think they both like the stimulation at the end of the day. Their days are split in half almost exactly; Blue gets to socialize with me in the day, and Pepper stays with me all night. I can’t get over how queer Blue’s coat is, though. It’s like his guard hairs are so much shorter than a regular cat; also, his coat reminds me of seal fur. I wonder if he got rain on him if it would roll off the way it does for normal cats? I haven’t given him a bath yet but have to soon. I’ve been working with him on trusting me and getting a bath isn’t easy for most cats, but he needs one to help the rest of his loose fur come out. Then I can treat him for fleas for the summer (he’s an indoor cat but I know that they can come through the screen if they are out there).

Russian Blues are low shedding cats and carry hardly any of the allergens that afflict people who react to cats. I concur that Russian Blues are incredibly intelligent and vocal. They are also known for picking a favourite human family memeber and becoming that individual's cat. They are not fond of strangers. Unlike most breeds of cat Russian Blues generally love to have their tummies rubbed and can form a very intense and loving relationship with their preferred human.

@@Mary-ws8zh I have an eight year old Russian Blue female cat that I adopted at one year old. She has all of the interesting behavior patterns. However, once she makes you HERS then you ARE! I named her GraySEE!! ( Because she SEES all, gets into ALL, and is over ALL!) lol, That being said, my daughter who loves cats said that she has NEVER seen a kitty that runs all around the entire room trying to stay right at eye level with me. I read when I adopted her that they are SO intelligent that they are not like other cats so much. My home worked desk that I used to have, had towes on it and her favorite spot was her circulate bed when she could sit and lay and always look into my eyes. I moved and no longer have it so I miss that. She is talks to me, and at eight years of age, is still a playful kitten with toys. I think due to her not having been fed enough before I adopted her has for anxiety and she will start ripping and tearings apart, knocking everything over that she can to get my goat. I feed her lots of little tiny meals and snacks all day and that is a huge part of her love language.

I adopted my Russian Blue when she was 14 months old. She will be 15 yrs this month. Very active cat, gets into a lot of stuff, playful, wants my attention but is good being by herself too. She is definitely a foodie. That cat box has to be kept clean so I do that 2-3 times a day. She doesn't shed at all. She will walk down the hall and for no reason just up the hall wall 5-6 feet. First time she did that scared the you know what outta me. The only thing that was not mentioned here is, this breed is predisposed to crystals in the urine, or problems such as this.

All true for my russian except the shedding. Course I do brush him lightly on a daily basis...so maybe that helps with the shedding. He is very loving and affectionate which I love. I am at home all day long so we are on the same exact schedule. Napping...eating..cuddling......etc. He is very sensitive in many ways.....but we work around that. The joy he gives me far outweighs any quirk. His fur is like a mink coat so I have a hard time keeping my hands off of him when he is trying to nap. He sleeps right at my head every night....with legs open so I will rub his belly. I will have to say he, out of all the cats I have owned throughout my life, is the most unique in so many ways. The funniest thing which I have never experience before is that he has numerous beds. And he likes for me to change up after a couple of weeks. So that keeps me busy in the creativity department. You can only do so much with a cat bed!!!!!! Always has to have a piece of my clothing....and a way to make the area dark whether its a curtain, door, box......whatever. I could go on....but I've taken up enough space I'm afraid. Thanks for sharing. Oh....forgot one thing. I rescued Kip from the local vet. The owners wanted him put to sleep because he had developed some bad behaviors that I think came from a stress environment. Large dogs and children. I don't think they like alot of hooplah. At least Kip doesn't. He saved me because I am old and live alone......and I saved him from a death sentence. We found each other.

I love my Russian Blue. He likes to cuddle with me. If he’s hungry, he says it. If he wants to play, he’s quite vocal about it. Best thing is that he learned how to vocalize “hungry” 😂 leaves little room for guessing. My cat even tells me “I love you” if he’s food is on the way 🥰. All cats are playful, and all furry animals shed. A Russian Blue doesn’t actually shed as much.

When they are being vocal they are actually asking for something specific. You'd be forgiven in thinking "Oh it's just a dumb animal. I've given them everything any animal would want". Russian blues have more of a variety in what they want and will keep asking until you figure it out. This is one highly intelligent kitty. My Russian blue is willing to stick her nose up at her food if she wants chicken instead of fish. And will wait it out until I get the picture... dumb hooman.

The only thing accurate in this video is that Russian Blues don't like change. Otherwise, they're the _complete_ opposite of what you stated here. Blues are widely regarded for being quiet, sweet, intelligent, independant cats. They _can_ be vocal, but only when they want something specific from you. Otherwise, they are one of the quieter, less demanding breeds. Also _all_ cats shed and there's no true hypoallergenic cat, but Russian Blues are listed as "hypoallergenic" because they shed less frequently and don't carry as much of the Fel d1 protein in their saliva.

Haha, I’ve always been very allergic to cats as a kid, but I still adored them anyway; after a 3-month college internship at a photographer couple’s house in their computer lab where an orange kitten playfully bit my hands, I realized I gained natural immunization from the protein in its saliva from the biting when I was no longer having an allergic reaction to the fully grown kitten a year later! 🙀 I’ve always wanted a Russian Blue because they’re the most gorgeous breed and one of the healthiest (medically and longevity) and most nearly hypoallergenic breeds, but the nearest cattery were charging $1,000 for a sterilized kitten deemed unworthy of show competitions based on certain physical traits that most people can’t discern. 😿 Instead, I rescued my first cat: a black flea-bitten kitten with a balding lower back from a bad part of town during late October in 2019; I feared for her life during spooky season because of the silly American superstition that black cats are bad luck (but good luck in Europe). 😾 I named her Clover Nimbus not only because the first name refers to the lucky 4-leaf clover and its color matches her green eyes, but also because Clover’s secretly short for “Cat lover,” which is simply the best name ever for a cat 😻 and she wears a glittery green 4-leaf clover tag on her bright green collar. As for her last name, Nimbus is an outdated Latin term for “dark cloud” on account of her black fur with a lighter tinge from her underside akin to dark rain clouds plus Nimbus also means a glowing ring of light AKA a halo in religious iconography, which is apt because Clover’s a sweet angel; Nimbus is also from some of my favorite cultural franchises: Young Goku’s flying cloud in Dragon Ball and Harry Potter’s Nimbus 2000 broomstick. Since Clover was constantly scratching and biting her itchy body, I had to keep her in the hard-floored kitchen in order to avoid a flea infestation in the house and while I wasn’t home, I kept her inside a crate in the kitchen until I could take her to the vet a week later for her first appointment to start parasite treatment and schedule sterilization surgery. 😿 I estimated her as 1 year old, which the vet confirmed after checking the lack of tartar on Clover’s teeth and the vet classified her as short-haired, but a few months later, Clover grew out her missing fur and is actually long-haired! Upon research and personal observations, I can conclude Clover’s of the Siberian Forest feline descent because she loves playing with water while sporting a water-resistant coat and lives up to the nickname of Gentle Giant at about 15 lbs. a year later. 🙀 3 years later in Nov. 2022, I wanted Clover to have a fellow feline as a companion, so I checked the local shelter’s online directory of cats and spotted another juvenile named Smokey that had an uncanny resemblance to Russian Blues! 🙀 I visited her at the shelter the next day and paid a fee to put down an adoption hold for Smokey who was at the shelter for barely a month; I had reviewed her medical history in which she was extremely anxious upon arriving at the shelter with diarrhea issues for a few weeks after testing positive for Covid-19. There was an alarming footnote that her previous owner had passed away, so I deduced the cause of death was most likely Covid-19 due to Smokey being infected; she already tested negative before I visited the shelter. I already knew that Russian Blues (and Korats, a very similar breed) tend to have sensitive stomachs, so while Covid-19 may have caused her diarrhea, anxiety stemming from sudden life changes such as the owner dying can also cause GI issues; I was confident I could solve her GI issues over time with housing stability and reliably consistent food. 😼 I also assume that whomever was close to the previous owner must have surrendered Smokey to the shelter with no previous medical data because she was generically classified as American Shorthair; given that the previous owner most likely died of Covid-19, I believe the owner was a wealthy anti-vaxxer that could easily afford a purebred Russian Blue kitten because Smokey has all the hallmarks of Russian Blues: dark grey coat with a shiny silvery sheen, same facial bone structure with the classic smile, ear shape and size, intensely green eyes, and personality: very affectionate, skittish, energetic, and vocal. 😻 Smokey didn’t seem to recognize the name, so I believe the shelter assigned her a common name for grey cats and I think this is a common practice for shelters that may not know the owner-given names and/or assign appealing names that correspond to cats’ appearances. I didn’t like the generic name anyway, so I decided to name her Cinderella Quicksilver (Cinder for short), which I found fitting after witnessing how the smaller, newer juvenile was intimidated by larger grey cats in their room during feeding time; I was reminded of Cinderella being bullied by her two evil step-sisters and step-mother before Cinderella was rescued. Quicksilver is a nickname of mercury, which is a metallic liquid element with fast molecular motion and mobility (Cinder is a small, speedy cat that’s hard to capture in the company of strangers or whenever I’m clipping her claws); plus Quicksilver is also the name of Marvel’s speedy superhero. 😼 After researching how to integrate an additional cat into a home, I decided to use wall-outlet calming hormone diffusers for 2 months to acclimate both Clover and Cinder to each other; I kept Cinder in a bedroom for several days before introducing her to Clover and repeated this a few times before they were on good terms after a week. After a few months, they were respectful friends when Cinder stopped hissing if Clover was too close for a while, albeit usually keeping their distance. By springtime, they were good friends and sometimes slept together. By summertime, they playfully chased and wrestled with each other; I’m glad to say I never witnessed a malicious fight between them. Early on, Cinder was almost always aggressive towards Clover, but luckily, Clover’s a laidback Gentle Giant. 😸 Anyway, Cinder’s GI problems cleared up after only a few weeks with Blue Buffalo’s salmon-flavored kibble for sensitive stomachs; like Clover, Cinder never destroyed furniture since they have a scratching post and a robust cat tree by a window with plenty of toys. Btw, the video’s clearly wrong about Russian Blues’ shedding; they don’t shed very much and Cinder’s fur doesn’t even collect onto the brush, so I don’t bother brushing her. Now on the other hand, I have to brush Clover every 2-3 weeks or I’ll find tufts of fur on the carpet or floating in the air (quite fitting since her last name’s Nimbus! 😹); one time, it had been a month and the fur I collected easily could have been mistaken for a litter of kittens! 😹 They both love sleeping in bed with me and almost always want to be in the same room as me when they’re not taking long naps as a break from stimulation; when they know I’ll be working on my computer in my usually closed home office, they’ll try sprinting into the office whenever I take a bathroom break. 😹 Just now, I realized Clover recently started meowing regularly when she wants to cuddle up on my lap and I think she finally learned that from observing Cinder’s constant meowing for attention and my responsive petting with vocal greetings over the past year; Clover rarely meowed in the past, but her low-pitch meows sound like weepy moans, which I’m still not used to and they’re such a stark contrast to Cinder's cheerful chirps. 😺

Mine is so so food driven. Can not keep him out of the trash or off the counters. He isn't even sneaky about it. My other cat at least does it when I am not in the room! He is extremely picky about his litter box. He WILL pee elsewhere if it is not kept clean.

No offence but Russian blues are knows for their independence so you saying if their owners are gone most of the day it's perfectly fine as long as you provide the Russian blue with toys and give it your undivided attention when you come back it's fine

I have 1 black cat and 3 Russian Blue sisters that someone was giving away at 6 weeks old. We even found homes for all 3 because we already had 9 cats but the owner said they would end up at the shelter if no one was willing to take them and Tampa’s shelter is a high kill so my now ex found homes. Problem was that all 3 were always together and would sleep together as well. Not enough room in the cat bed? No problem. One will sleep on top of the other two. Ash who we call “The Pink Demon” is a fat cat who is so smart and thinks with her stomach. The other 2 are smaller. All 3 are very vocal. Smokey sounds like she shoved her head up a chimney with a fire going she is so raspy and that’s not how she got her name. Phoenix is an addict. She is addicted to anything that has fleece such as blankets. Ash likes plastic bags and she chews them up and licks them. Ewww. I cancelled their adoptions because I couldn’t bear the thought of splitting them up especially since one was going to TX and the other 2 would stay here in FL. They turn 6 in April

Absolutely love mine! She is incredibly intelligent, and is able to learn how we open doors in my house, as they are all handles and not knobs. She knows the EXACT time to be fed, and headbutts her face into yours in the morning to wake you up. She's protective too, as a rabid raccoon was trying to attack me one day and she flew like a bullet out of nowhere and chased it off. Plus she even plays fetch lol

I don't think videos like this are helpful especially when millions of animals languish in shelters. Every animal is different so generalizations aren't wise to make. They are persistent about food, wet food specifically but I don't see that as an issue. Their energy levels come down after a few years just like dogs. They don't like change or loud noises, but what cat does, they adapt like most cats. The shedding happens minimally when the seasons change, nothing over whelming. Most people don't know I have a cat based on my clothes but they do see the brown dog hair. They make fantastic loving intelligent pets.

A lot of same info over and over that is not true. I had Mirabela for 5 years. She’s great cat! Loving, comunicating, btw - just when she wants something: food, toys to pull from under furniture or stove or to go walk outside. But she’s very smart and tries to not wake me up in am an patiently waiting. When she sees me moving , then she jumps on and show she want something. We moved across country and she drove 4 days with me. She was scared for a little bit, but then was fine. As well, we had a smalll doggie for just a weekend, she didn’t like it for a half day, then was ok with it and even shared food from one bowl. She does’t require too much attention. Comes on knees ti get pet and goes to sleep for all day. Comes on knees when is curious to see what you eating or stare at you in the kitchen, she’s very curious. She very much doen’t like loud noise. Shedding. Not that bad. If you do take care and once a week brush with special tool, that’s enough. Her toilet. Yes, she don’t like it dirty. If it’s full and stinks, she may poop at the floor next to the door. You would do the same! So don’t get pet if you are not mature to take care of it!

I wanted a kitten when I was a kid and when my parents went to the shelter, there was a lone blue Russian kitten. Smokie, I named her. I,loved her… but she didn’t love me 😆 even as a kitten, she had no interest in me… because I was a child…. She wanted adult attention and my dad was her favorite. I didn’t mind too much that she never bonded to me because my mom got me another kitten when I was 12 who was my best friend, an orange tabby. Smokie was also very vocal like this video explains. She would meow at all times. My orange tabby bffl never meowed, in fact… I don’t think she even knew how. 😝

My boy is half blue my daughter had a purebred they are the best! I always give my blue korat lots of attention! But he lays around a lot when I can't play like now! And he's never destructive! My boys vocal love it! Love his persistence it saved us from an intruder breaking in!he's not much of a jumper since breaking his leg as a kitten! Neither of us like change! He's not shown any destructive behavior with our recent huge change!he's embraced the big change! We may move abroad next year? Well see how he likes that big change? My boy looks acts just like a korat! Korats are more adventuresome then blues! He's not timid or shy around new people like blues are!

You are very wrong for this type of cat being very vocal (i stoped.wathing after that one). Russian Blue meow very low, barelly heard and only if they need something, like food, you took her chair, you closed litter box so she cant pee etc. Blue Russian is absolutelly quiet cat. Also they are not demanding and many times she stay alone and play alone, even when we are home she entertain herself without our interaction, which is mentioned on many sites with reputation. Obviously.you dont own one and your research is far from reputable pet store or pet farm. For others, please read from professionals all about Russian Blue on recognized pet web sites.
