I think my hopes got up because of Skuntank’s Gang, like Their gang were shitty and tried to steal from you constantly but they weren’t Evil by any stretch of the imagination, just your typical Jessie, James and Meowth situation. So I was like “Oh it’s not impossible to become super famous in Pokémon world I mean the player character is proving themselves quickly” and then..le epic betrayal. Dusknoir became one of my favorites after that though

Missed a much more shocking and totally surprising Dragon Age betrayal with Rendon Howe in Dragon Age Origins. Most players have to wait all the wait to the fall of Ostagar and perhaps even longer to hear about this character. Imagine the hapless newbie who chooses a human noble origin for their first playthrough, excited for a completely new game they know nothing about, and then, less than five minutes in: THIS guy! While all other origins characters get a tense buildup to their inevitable tragic backstory and forced recruitment into the Grey Wardens, one of the first characters you meet is Rendon Howe, who couldn't look shadier if he wore a sign saying "I'm going to betray and murder your entire family." Top it all off, he's voiced by none other than TIM CURRY! Even the most naive gamer at this point is going to suspect, "Hmmm.....this guy might be evil."

You can actually turn Parker to your side to help attack Marburg, the aging assassin you fight in Rome, by finding out it was Marburg who killed his daughter. If you earn Marburg's respect, he'll leave and Parker will be left to fight you alone. And if you get Marburg's respect and tell Parker the truth or point out a flaw in his logic? No Marburg fight (he will kill someone later for you) and Parker will disable the turrets for you. I actually got every possible ally in that game on Hard mode. I felt so god damn awesome becoming a one man charmer, turning the spy world against Halbec (and then taking Halbec for myself).

Kreia from KotOR 2 belongs on this list, she spends the entire game hating everything you do, screwing with your other companions and tells you she's a Sith Lord like 16 times, then suddenly decides to betray you and become the final boss. Who could have seen it coming

Kreia is a very good option for this list! My mind went to Bastila in KotOR, but of characters from KotOR, Kreia is a better pick. At least with Bastila you can get her back, although I always forget what the dialogue options are for it and I always play as a female so it's harder to convince her. And I guess if you go dark side yourself it's kind of a moot point. 🙃 (Also can't remember who was on the prior lists for this topic either lol)

Sure, I missed out on some shenanigans (and was puzzled for a while as to why I had Patch's Bell, or whatever it's called, in my inventory), but at least I wasn't fooled even once.

Not sure if it was brought up in the other two videos, but the 'child prince' in Diablo 3 was obviously Belial from his opening lines. The Lord of Lies being the worst at lying only getting as far as he does because Blizzard can only write when the player character is beyond stupid was very much on brand.

It is implied that your character figured out pretty early on the "Emperor Hakan" is actually Belial, and was just playing along. I mean, it IS pretty obvious, though Belial seems mildly surprised when you just casually call him by is real name. But then, the other villains aren' tmuch better - Azmodan is supposedly a master tactician, and everyone keeps telling you so, but all he does is keep popping up to tell you exactly what his plans are and where he'll be striking next. Instead of, you know, just attacking a weak spot without warning in order to actually have an effect before you have time to show up and stop him. But no, he's all like "Haha, you stopped my X, well, I have my Y instead!", "Oh, you think you're so clever destroying my Y? Well I still have my Z!". And then Diablo does basically the exact same thing in Act IV...but then he is part-Azmodan by that point, so maybe that's why :D.

I don't know if you've covered this in any previous videos yet, but... I genuinely was surprised that Big Smoke betrays you in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Why? Well, apart from the fact that he's the first of the Grovers you meet, is the only Grover who is actually glad to see you back (unless you count Kendl), and you team up with him during Just Business, one of the most fun missions (IMO) in the early stages of the game, it was because it never occurred to me that there might be TWO Grovers who would betray you. I figured Sweet was going to get killed, leaving Carl the only surviving Johnson boy, after which Big Smoke and Carl would team up as the last two surviving OGs against Tenpenny, right after they blasted super-obvious traitor Ryder. Yes, Big Smoke moved out of the Grove. But I always assumed that was because his mission were harder than Sweet's and Ryder's so they wanted you to tackle them later. And yes, Sweet mentions that "you and Smoke" killed Little Weasel even though, not only do you attack Glen Park and kill L.W. by yourself, there are no missions where you team up with Smoke and have to fight ANY Ballas, but I just assumed that was due to bad writing. If you ever do a non-sarcastic list of betrayers, Big Smoke belongs on that one, and Ryder belongs on the next list of obvious ones.

I would also add to this in favour of the commercial pressures recently that Andy and Mike did that Black Friday steam which was just pure shopping of OX merch and highlighting the affiliate money the channel was making from other products. With Micah, the only question was how long he had been a Pinkerton informant. Was it since before the start of the game or after the gang returned from Guam.

I honestly think it was after they got back from Guarma. I know people talk about the white costume while everyone else is dressed in darker outfits as though Milton and Ross would make the, "Don't shoot the guy in white," deal but they really have no reason to honour their side of it; they wouldn't keep him alive and Micah has enough low cunning to know that he's of no use to them after they get Dutch. The Pinkertons would see it as better to wipe out the entire VDL Gang and try to claim the significant bounty that would still be on Micah's head in Strawberry, if nothing else; Micah would know this too. Plus... why would Micah even want to have the rest of the gang killed? Like all bullies, he hates being alone. Yes, he abuses those who he sees as lower on the totem pole than himself, but if he sees value in people then he very much keeps them around. He spends the game cosying up to Dutch before pulling his strings in the epilogue, he recruits new hired guns to the gang, and he fights alongside the VDL gang on many occasions, rather than just inflicting friendly fire in the middle of a shootout as he might do if he truly wanted to be rid of certain members of the gang. He's vain, cruel, and misanthropic - but he keeps people around if he sees a use for them and he hadn't finished with the VDL gang yet.

They tell you, in game, by even the Pinkertons, after they got back from Guama. However, the Pinkertons had an informant before him...who was it? Rockstar never hints nor even gives close to hints. So, it is an open question. And it wasnt O'Malley. They killed her off to mislead you. The reason I say there is another because they were setup before the start of the game. Rockstar never returns to that one though. Perhaps, if they do Red Dead Redemption 3, we shall find out.

The only real reason we have to believe that the VDL gang is actually competent is because the story is told from Arthur's perspective. By analysing their track record, we see that the VDL gang are not all they're cracked up to be. Moreover, Angelo Brontë kept his position in Saint Denis by pulling up the ladder behind him, owning politicians and police chiefs, making sure that the likes of the VDL gang didn't have a place in Saint Denis. Isn't a tip-off from him (or one of his toadies) in the way of, "These lowlife bank robbers have infiltrated my town and it is mutually beneficial to us for you to get rid of them," considerably more likely than Micah walking into a firefight with the Pinkertons and assuming he won't be double-crossed?

I am thinking of many characters from the Legacy of Kain series that could fit in this video. In the first game, Mortanius the Necromancer resurrects you as a vampire in order to defeat the circle and heal the land, guides you through the entire game... and shows himself to be the final boss at the end, operating at the command of a host of baddies that have taken up residence within him. Through many of the series' games, Moebius the Timestreamer is helping you from time to time, but obviously reveals he had been manipulating you all along. The Elder One, Raziel's master, is also manipulating him for his own purposes (and Moebius also, by the way).

I'd go with Ryuzo from Ghost of Tsushima. He's an old friend of Jin's however that doesn't stop him from eventually turning on you to join the Mongels. He did it so that his men of the strawhat ronins are able to stay well fed since the Mongols are hoarding a lot of food, but still the betrayal did sting

If I was Dracula and I was waiting for the absolute perfect time to ambush the vampire hunter descended from a line that had beaten me time and time again. I would probably do it in the middle of a random maze. Not the end of the game where they are at their strongest, most skilled and loaded with equipment. I also wouldn't have transformed in front of him and given him a ton of time to prepare. Maybe thats why I'm not a powerful vampire lord. I also own shirts and wear them sometimes. Though I suppose if I had abs like that I would probably not wear shirts either

Why would you think there wouldn't be enemy mechs being deployed behind you? Or explosive canisters dangling above you? Or a super-sized mech with grinder arms as big as your own mech waiting for you on the other side?

In Guild Wars 1 (Prophecies), there was an NPC named Vizier Khilbron who presents himself as one of your allies and the last survivor of an ancient kingdom that was wiped out. He needs us to go on a quest chain to find and give to him an all powerful scepter which he swears he'll use to help save the continent. Dude looks like a bad guy, sounds like a bad guy, and surprise surprise, it's revealed at the end that he was secretly a bad guy all along... and literally not a single player felt caught off guard by it. The only way any of us would've been surprised is if he HADN'T been a bad guy, and just had Jafar vibes for no reason...

Rat God from Mad Rat Dead could potentially apply, considering how she shares the bright colour palette of the nightmare enemies, her very suspiciously sugary way of speaking and the one cutscene where it's implied that a group of street rats are lured into being eaten by a local cat because of her, which all ends up culminating in the reveal that she's actually just a clump of toxiplasmosis cells that've spent the whole game trying to get you eaten by a cat so she can continue living

In Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia it turns out that the evil organization Dim Sun is secretly bankrolled by the CEO of Altru Inc, Blake Hall. Fooled me, despite him running an oil company, only wearing dark clothing, and how he constantly wears shades that make him look vaguely like Agent Smith.

I’d like to include the innocently-named Honest Tom from “Gun.” I’ll give you a wild guess as to whether or not he lives up to his name. Also: KotOR II’s Kreia is a wonderful example of this too. Except instead of being “surprised” at the betrayal from a lady named *Darth Treya*, it’s more curiosity at what her next move will be. It’s a great version of this trope that doesn’t annoy you, but rather intrigues you.

It will never get on any OX list i bet, but in the first Guildwars game you are helped throughout the story by the only survivor of a lost kingdome of Orr, a man called Vizier Khilbron. He looks nice and saves your life a few times... till he does not need you anymore and it is revealed that he did die in the cataclysm that destroyed Orr (that he started himself...) and is now an Undead Lich that wants to rule the world with the help of his new Titan army you helped him to unleash, oh and he wants to kill you as well. He seemed such nice and trustworthy person at first (apart from all the undead he was summoning at will :)).

Yeah, they seem really adverse to Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2, which baffles me when they constantly show WoW content, and have even touched on FFIV a few times. There's so much GW2 content that could go on lists. They're really missing out.

For once, I got a suggestion for a part 2: Spoilers for Persona 5 Akechi. The guy works with the prosecutor and the police to chase after you and your team, the Phantom Thieves, for months (in-game), even going on TV to say how much he despises you, only to suddenly change his mind and join you almost out of nowhere. Considering the game doesn't even try to hide there would be a betrayal at some point, as it's revealed about 10 minutes into the game that someone will sell you out, anyone who can put 2 and 2 together will know what's coming. Fortunately for Persona 5, Akechi being a traitor isn't the actual plot twist of that part of the game. The real plot twist was that the Phantom Thieves actually saw it coming and had a plan to pretty much Reverse Uno the treason.

I have another character from assassin creed mirage when you play quest for makirah ( her name in arabic means foxy or cunning) at first you think you doing fetch quests in order for her to look beautiful and you get her boss office key but when mission done turns out you actually helped her kill one of her Opposition and framed another
