That is so positive that small piles of clutter are triggering a need to tidy. You are now able to tidy up sections of the house in 1 video when it used to take 4 or 5. Now you are also a teacher to help others with hoarding disorders. Yay for you!!!❤️💜❤️💜

You are making so much progress! Two things you might find helpful: 1. Have a recycling container in the kitchen that's clearly marked "RECYCLING." It seems like things go astray between the place where you open your mail and the recycling bin in the garage. Your husband will know that when the kitchen recycling bin is full it can be emptied into the larger garage recycling bin. 2. Keep a basket for items that need to be shredded next to the shredder. This way your kids could even help with the task of shredding (as long as they are given instructions on how to use the shredder safely).

I am glad you don't beat yourself up. You have come so far mentally and physically. My problem is junk mail. I get all caught up on shredding or throwing away. Then I fall back in a rut. I need to check my mailbox every day. Instead of once a week. 😂 I enjoyed the video. Miss Pepper is so precious watching you emptying that bag. I hope you have a fantastic week.

I am going to put my therapist hat on for a moment 😂 I want you to focus on why trash doesn’t make it to the trash can straight away . I know you have the don’t put it down put it away mantra which is great but I often see your boxes of stuff has a mix of keep and trash in them . If you focus solely on getting the tossy tossy stuff out of your house straight away you are simply left with things that need to be put away in the right places which can be achieved quite quickly if those things have a home . Keep up the good work . I see a lot of progress ❤

Hi Mel, i watched your videos for about 3 years and admired your progress. Sharing your thinking process was such a great learning. You are a lovely, helpful person, and your Supervisor Pepper 🐈 is very supportive and always there for you ❤ Messes come back because, well, life happens, but compared to 3 years ago, your decluttering muscles are way stronger, and you cleared laundry room today probably 3 times quicker. And respect to your hubby, he is almost as supportive as Pepper 😁 He is your present and future, and what a wonderful man to have and deserve after all you've been through. Sending scratches to Pepper 🫑💚 and virtual hug from UK 🙋🏼‍♀️

Completion is huge! We used to habit stack in our old house and deliver old diaper boxes (“donatable donate containers”) from the laundry room )folded right in clean, the outgrown clothes) and my kids’ rooms. We’d drop off on the way to or from church. But after moving states - I now have like 4-6 big boxes of donates piling up among the boxes we are supposed to unpack. Dho! Gotta find out where to donate … and pick a church.

Such great steps! I am going to copy them in my home journal. As for how I break deep rooted habits: i have chronic health issues, so I can't do lengthy declutter sessions. Recently, though, I have started to set a new rule: when you leave a room, take one thing that doesn't belong. If I want to keep it, I put it in the right place. If I don't need it anymore, I either put it in the trash bin, donation box or recycling bin. I have bins for all of those categories within easy reach on every floor of the house. Using this new method, I have decluttered in all of the rooms. I think this method will also work when you''re busy, because it's so effortless. When I have a bit of energy or low pain levels, I use the five point tidying method from How to Keep House While Drowning. It is such a soothing book for me, so gentle and lovingly written.

Hello! I often get sidetracked and don’t complete the action. I have a bin where I throw all the stuff to be shredded so I don’t accidentally get it mixed up with the paper churn. Once it’s full I know it’s time to shred paper. Feels good to see the empty bin. 😊 An idea for your craft station, turn the cube storage so it’s taller. You will be less inclined to drop things on the flat surface. It’s crazy when there’s a flat surface stuff will find it’s way there! 😉

One of the most eye-opening things to me was that if I buy something, mostly it is not only the item I was intending to purchase and need, but with it come other things attached, a plastic case, a piece of backing carton, a piece of string holding the item in, a bag, a receipt. One thing I wanted. Everything else just came with it. After that I started looking into secondhand items, especially for things that are long lasting household items. It reduced the unwanted stuff for a little bit.

Pepper was just giving us her encouragement! I finally got the cupboards under the sink declutted. I also went through my dishes and took out all the miscellaneous items that don't go with any of my sets of dishes. I have 5 boxes that need to be put in my car and driven to a thrift store. I'm going to need help putting them in the car. I have to reorganize my bathroom again. I had some men working on the floor. It won't be too bad. Most of the stuff on the shelf behind the toilet is in containers. I'm just too tired to do it now.

I'm soooo happy you didn't need to have a tossy tossy pile. That's amazing progress! The laundry room seems to be a hot spot for trash and recycling. You should put a trash can and recycling bin in the room (I'm sure you can find the space) to avoid the mess in the first place.

Its OK that it takes time to change habits, and you have made incredible progress, just look how quickly you cleared this up again! So proud of you! However, blocking that door is potentially dangerous. Thats an escape route if you have you ever have a fire, flood or emergency. Take some red tape, make a box on the floor and put a big cross through it. Visually make this area off limits.

Mel, do you even realize how incredible you are? Your ability to plainly explain the complexities of a hoarder mentality & then your cheerleading talents of building everyone up and encouraging everyone is just the absolute best! I had grandparents who were hoarders, and I know other individuals - both extended family members & friends - who have hoarding tendencies. I appreciate you so much because you've helped me to be able to understand why they are the way they are, so now it is much easier for me to exercise patience with them. That is hugely beneficial! Trying to help someone declutter without having an understanding of the situation or patience is a recipe for failure. Thank you for teaching us all tools so that those of us who are loved ones of hoarders can better help & bless those who need help. ❤

Having a cleaning/tidying up schedule listed somewhere visable everyday would help, like mondays could be laundry room tidy, Tuesdays livingroom etc. That way you are keeping up on everything in small amounts of time before anything gets overwhelming, also could help get the rest of the family involved if they know whats on the schedule.

I have been with you since 2019. The areas you cleared in today's episode would have taken you 2-3 episodes i the past. I have always enjoyed your " tossy tossy" piles. So proud of you not having one today!!!!!! Putting it away is best! But you might consider taking a before and after of the trash/recycle cans? Also, consider what ever you have under the basement stairs can those items be relocated? Place the empty bins/lids and other organizers there. One day you will wake up and that area will be empty because everything in your home has an organized place to go to. Also, currently the empty bins/lids, etc are encroaching on your children's play area. Thank you for today's episode. i so look forward to Friday's where I can visit your channel!!! Great job as always, Ms Heart! Your progress inspires me so much on my own journey. My struggle isn't with hoarding but sobriety & nutrition. I think one silver lining about healing from Hoarding Disorder is that changes are very tangible & visible right away, & that's very encouraging. As a point of curiosity, have you considered removing the 2 floor shelving units from the laundry room? Their presence seems to invite clutter due to their multiple flat surfaces, & perhaps the wall space could be used for other things?

Ms Heart - bringing stuff in is probably also a symptom of your hoarding syndrome. Learning to make good decisions about what to bring home is a learned skill for hoarders, in the same way that re-learning to walk is for some people who have had a stroke. But it can be done. Be willing to experiment with externally recommended boundaries - they don't have to be forever, just try them for a couple months - deciding no more craft supplies because you have so much, no accepting donations from other people if you don's URGENTLY have a physical need for the item, no accepting items because "the boys/husband might want it". Similar to a no-buy, have a no bring home month. Hoarding disorder is so difficult because, unlike alcohol, it is an addiction to stuff (and we all need stuff). Perhaps Overeaters anonymous might have some useful information.

That sounds like a very interesting experiment! Bringing things in the home is a big part of the equation. As someone in remission from an eating disorder: yes, we all have to eat. Like you said no avoiding it, we all need to have stuff.

Your meal planner worsheets seem to wander quite a bit. Maybe having a magnetic upright paper keeper on your fridge door too keep the stack woth a pen right there could help. So when you need to meal plan, you can pull out one sheet, fill it out, and then post it on the fridge. I am currently working on writing down my recipes in this same way with my binder right next to the fridge so when my boyfriend and I are in the kitchen he can cook and I can take notes of how we are making each particular food item. You are doing lovely by the way. ❤

Maybe one of these months we can see a FlyLady baby step demonstration with a recovering hoarder? I loved that series you did 3 years ago!

I know Hubby is camera shy, but I’m sooo curious about his experience over the years! Maybe you could interview him off camera and share his responses in a video. Some things I’d like to know: 1. At what point in your relationship/marriage did you start to realize Ms. Heart was struggling with hoarding disorder? 2. What things did you find were the most effective in supporting Ms. Heart on her journey? What was not as helpful? 3. If you could give any advice to someone who has a friend or partner with hoarding disorder, what would you say? 4. What room are you most happy to have back? What room are you most proud of Ms. Heart for decluttering?

I love this idea. She can even read off his answers. Even ask the kids their take away.

Mrs. Heart your videos have helped me so much, and I feel my decluttering muscles have grown, but do you have a playlist for how to maintain house-cleaning with ADHD?

Great job! I didn't mind that you didn't have a big tossy tossy pile at the end - throwing things away & putting things away as you go reminds me of Dana K White's no mess decluttering. Progress and only progress 💕
