More fretboard struggles, drilling holes for neck and volume pot, making cover plates for trem and control cavities.

"As goes the project - so goes the mood of the engineers." I did the same thing with Tung oil - never even read the instructions - just let it soak overnight instead of wiping it off after a few minutes. Then I tried to fix it by soaking it in solvent. After 3 days I gave up. They say it helps to RTFM. Five years and about 100 builds or mods later, I tend to use rattle can lacquer and Keda wood dyes mixed w/ h2o for most finishes, and mineral oil for fretboards. I find them easy to use, low cost, and easy error recovery for the hobbyist builder such as myself. But I still experiment with other finishes. On my current build, masking tape from polishing frets pulled up the enamel clearcoat and the Teflon tape laminate on the back of the neck. I was left with clearcoat on parts and not on others. When you're pushing the envelope of your guitar building knowledge and experience, such setbacks are all part of the game. As a veteran luthier once told me when I was a newbie, "Make sure you're enjoin' the ride!". And remember: "The mark of a good luthier is not how few mistakes they make, it how many they can recover from!". There are a number of quotes that apply to building guitars (and other things like hot rods). "As goes the project...", "They say it helps to RTFM", "Make sure you're enjoin' the ride!", and the "The mark of a good luthier..." are four of them. Others that apply are: "Rome was not built in a day" - it takes serious time to build serious stuff. "Sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make a REAL mayonnaise" - extraordinary results sometimes require extraordinary efforts.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I've been down this same road brother. We live, we learn, we don't do it twice! It'll be fine. Once you play it, all your troubles will fade away! It looks really cool to me!✌️&💙

Thanks man. I guess the best lessons are learned painfully.

All sympathy for you mate, epoxy can be a nightmare! I am doing an LP at the moment with an epoxy river in it so I know your pain. But hey don't give up, as frustrating as it can be the results are great and as you said, it's a learning process, cheers

Dude, I can feel your pain through the video, and that's why I admire luthiers and their patience/resilience!!! That just feels like enough pain that I won't mention your stadium being a 2nd Arrowhead for us...😂 With other things, I've made mistakes that cost me hundreds in product, so I somewhat understand.

Thankfully I haven't made a disasterous fail like that yet. But I'm sure it's coming. Can't win 'em all. As a Raiders fan, I know that only too well.

@eklypse69 Nah, you can't win them all, and we won't either. As long as it's our three-peat ring to put Brady in his place, I'll be happy!

I did the same type thing with the BRS and the Tru oil. I laid two heavy coats to start as they say but didnt wipe it off quick enough so the subsequent coats remained tacky for months. I finally figured out if I wipe it down with cold water and a damp towel then kind of burnish it with course closed cell foam it finally solidified and started to shine up. I am really diggin that blue on the back of the body on this one. Ohh man those plastic shavings from that pick guard material.. NIGHT MARE I am still finding that stuff around or stuck by static to things nearly 4 full years after my first build.

Yeah that plastic is like styrene beads. You can't clean it all up.

Sorry you are having issues with the neck. but I'm sure you will figure it out and make it work when it's done. If yo wind up spraying the neck you night be able to tent the spray with the color you want to get it closer to what you want the fret board to look like.

I ended up not spraying it. It doesn't look hideous. Just not as nice as it did before.
