I have finally found the simply flattering collection at Talbots and bought several skinny, jeggin, and capri pants. Truly love since I’m slim in the legs and fuller pants add a look of weight to me at my age -54 now and since menopause.

5’8”??? Wow! I watch your channel all the time and I never knew! I loved, loved your outfits! I would have been so bummed if it rained almost the entire time on my vacation!!! I don’t mind the heat and having temperatures that were too cool would have been a disappointment. I live in the desert southwest and I don’t mind rain to cool things off, but not my entire vacation! A big YES for the Talbot linen pants. I got mine (also navy) on clearance at the end of the season a few years ago. It was my first time buying linen pants as I had the "too wrinkled" misconception. They work for so many events that I got another pair in light navy color. I wear them all the time. Stylish and comfortable!

Comfy knit dresses like these are essential to me for summer road trips, they’re much more comfortable than most pants, especially woven-fabric, fitted waist ones like jeans.

Just my 2 cents, but nothing ages us faster than wearing 'skimmers'. They cut off the leg at a strange spot making our legs look short and frumpy. A better option would be a loose maxi skirt with a fitted top. It's much cooler too!

I wear both Crops & Ankle pants for comfort. Can’t really go walking/hiking in a loose Maxi Skirt though I’ve got one but keep it for evenings. I wouldn’t dream of wearing it during the day, as I prefer something that keeps my thighs separated.

@@magdlynstrouble2036 ……I’m sure she’s got the sense to wear whatever is comfortable for her, & as for ‘old fashioned & frumpy’, you learn as you mature not to follow fashion for fashions sake. Whatever you call these shorter trousers they’re a lot cooler on a hot day than full-length trousers.

I'm a retired 62-year-old grandma with a work-at-home husband who has always been a casual dresser, so when we go out together I dress casually too. Very good advice! Clever to have a colour coordinated capsule wardrobe for vacations! It makes life so much easier when away and it works both ways: Add additional layers when it's colder or leave out the warm stuff when it's hotter! So simple but clever!

When you travel, make sure you take several things that can be layered and a rain parka (even in summer). I have traveled to southern areas on Memorial Day before and ended up freezing.

Hi Kay, thank you for sharing! Your channel is my most watched on KZbin. I live in the Edmonton, Alberta area of Canada. After watching your videos from this spring I realized that I had let the linen content in my wardrobe slip away to only 2 key pieces. Since then I have increased all my natural fibre content of linen, cotton and silk to being the majority of tops in my closet. Two pairs of linen pants as well. I live in SW Florida and we always carry a light sweater or wrap to wear INDOORS because the air conditioning is always turned down so cold! LOL Great ideas for a capsule wardrobe. I had no idea Talbot's offers that service. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Kay. I am so sorry you had rain for your vacation. I live just outside of Boston, and it has been cool and rainy for three weeks. Before that, it was warm, we even had to put the AC on. This June has been very odd, weather wise. But I loved all your outfits, and it was especially wise that you brought your sweatshirts. You never know about New England weather. When I was working full time, I would occasionally do a personal shopper. They are great, they give you a different perceptive and mix it up a little, so you don't look dated or frumpy. I also loved the house you rented. Very nice. BTW, you look fabulous in that stripped wrap dress.

Your vacation looked relaxing and an 8 mile hike is very impressive. We leave Sunday for a 10 day camping trip to our Michigan Upper Peninsula. We are going to Isle Royale a National Park for a night. I do like your color palette and am going to try to copy it. I will also bring plenty of sweatshirts, winter coat, hat and gloves. You never know what the weather will be.

Love your videos. I went to Colorado Springs for vacation, expecting nice weather (70-80 degrees), but it rained and got cool (low 50’s) except the last day when temps jumped to low 80’s. Fortunately, I came prepared.

In fact, I have ordered a number of items at your suggestion, and hope that you are getting credit for all of those sales. I even wore white jeans today--an old pair that finally fit me. I figured out a few days ago why I stay away from white: I have a tendency to spill thing on myself, and white pants get dirty SO fast! But I did feel springy/summery while I was wearing them with a Chico's linen blouse over a Chico's linen knit T-shirt. The blouse acts as a "completer piece" in warm weather. I love that idea and never had words for it until I heard you referring to "completer pieces." Thanks so much for all of your ideas.

My husband and I were in Bar Harbor, Maine several years ago and absolutely loved it. We did get to hike through Acadia National Park. Did you get to eat some lobster? I purchased the same Talbot's navy linen trousers you rave about. The fit is so stylish and love the versatility. I will have to try the ruffle striped tee. Did you get to try on the pleated linen Bermuda shorts? I bought the white linen ones as well. You look amazing in the dresses. They are so simple, yet stylish. You deserve time off. I went to Mt Desert Island in my early 20s and it was just stunning. I live in central Massachusetts but sadly I've never been back because it's such a long drive, even from here. But back then I was in great shape and could hike for hours!

We did enjoy lobster several times. We only got to hike one day, but we it was a wonderful hike. I did not get to try Talbots' linen Bermuda shorts. They didn't have them in my size that day. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.

I love Talbots and the outfits you put together! However, I don't find that white bottoms are ever a good choice for travel because you can usually only wear them once without needing to wash them and you have to be careful where you sit etc. so not practical. And linen pieces also do not travel well as they get crumpled up jn your luggage. The clothes look great, but I would choose different options for travel.

I've really started to get into wearing white tops and bottoms lately. And even beige can show stains. But I just love the pale color palette. So I carry a Tide stain removing pen, and I also spot rinse off stains in the sink as needed. It's not really that much work. But that's just me! I understand darker colors are easier.

My road trip is over from south to north, but several of your points resonated with me. For the first time, I wore a dress on the road - just one for several days but easy fabric to wash underarms as needed and dried overnight. I didn't pack white jeans and regretted it. I packed several tanks, overshirts and jackets - glad I did. Everything was black & white except one navy & white dress and jean jacket & jeans. The only thing I would add is that if you pack bare minimum items for the road, you don't need to haul in/out a big suitcase every night, just a small bag. My makeup/vanity kit is a separate grab and go. I packed more shoes than usual separately so I could grab a pair out of the car in case I needed to. Sweatshirts? Never BUT somehow I never realized there are such cute ones! Mine are the baggy ones that I hate so never wear. Good tip, thx!

I’m sorry, I know you like Talbots, but I think most of their clothes are quite frumpy. Especially those long untucked or tunic tops and sweaters, 3/4-sleeves and big colorful florals and novelty prints. These are, frankly, old-lady clothes for the most part. I do occasionally find a good classic jacket or something there, and I like their low- to mid-heel shoes. This brand also uses a lot of synthetic-fiber fabrics, which I can’t wear. I mostly avoid this and other “mature” brands, like Chico’s, J. Jill, Soft Surroundings, etc. Their sizing is also enormous compared to other brands, everything is much bigger than I expect, even though I always check the size chart and I don’t always get around to exchanging, or the smaller sizes are sold out. I’m a size Medium to Large, or 10-12, everywhere else, but their Mediums are like XLs elsewhere. This vanity sizing is not at all helpful, I don’t care what size is on the label, I just want a good fit. My donation bags are full of baggy, unflattering clothes from these brands, and I’ve finally learned my lesson. I don’t want my waist, hips, thighs, tummy, etc., concealed!
