This, check the coolant temp (with a scanner), which probably got stuck at 60-65C before its eventually is forced up by the oil/engine temp. Tstat should make its way to 79C before starting to open up.
@moonkef
@moonkef 3 жыл бұрын
The M's only have oil temp as a sort of gimmick in as much as you ought to let any engine's oil warm up if you plan to thrash it. The stat may also be stuck open / weak spring but driving it is the quickest way to get that oil temp up, same for any car. How quick the heater warms up is a test if you don't have a scanner, it should take no more than about 5 mins in a V8 (to get some warmth happening) long as that happens the stat will be ok but they dont last forever anyway. The rev limiter lighting should go out way before oil temp gets up - I still didn't go mad in mine until full oil temp.

Couple of things I have done to my E92 M3 that does help with some of the things you mentioned: Fuel economy - If you remove the primary cats and get a remap the car breathes alot better and I noticed about a 5mpg gain in high gears and 2mpg gain in low gears, it doesnt sound like much but the more you drive it does add up quite significantly (I was after more power so the fuel economy improvement was a bonus!) Gearshift - the stock shifter is horrible way too long for a sports car, replace it with a F10 M5 gear shifter is illuminated has a shorter through looks better and does transform the experience...i dont really notice notchiness at low rpm its more when the gearbox is cold but this is a high revving machine so you need to give it some mechanical sympathy, the feeling at shifting at redline is something that beats the DCT experience for me personally! Brakes - try a Stage 1 brake upgrade, Stainless steel lines, PFC-Z rated pads and 5.1 brake fluid, got rid of the spongy feeling/squeaking and does inspire alot more confidence...in terms of shopping for oem parts carparts4less are a subsidiary for ECP at 20% off and you'd be suprised that certain BMW dealers can actually beat the prices from ECP (Cotswalds BMW are well known for being one of the most competitive in the country) If you need any other help or advice feel free to join m3cutters a forum for m car enthusiasts, it really helped me solve some issues and get plenty of good advice so just passing it on!

As an E92 M3 owner, I can agree with most of your points. Your point about the gearbox though, did you try the DCT? The reason the manual isn't great in these is because it's just a compromise for those who want "control". But the DCT was designed specifically for that car and is definitely the better gearbox. It's not your regular slushbox automatic, it's a very well designed double clutch system similar to what the likes of Ferrari use. Plus they are faster than a manual too 😉

Heres some free info. Brake judder is a classic BMW symptom. Doesnt matter what model or age. On a Bm, every suspension component has to be perfect, they're not like Merc or Audi / VAG. If your BM has a sticking calliper, worn control arm bush or (obviously) warped discs it will judder under some braking conditions or other. Only with hot brakes? it could well be a slightly seizing calliper. If left will get worse, it will then warp a disc. Even un-evenly adjusted handbrake shoes will cause judder as you drive along (felt through the rear end). Re fuel, consider the old E24/E28's or even E34's just with the 211/218bhp M30 (not even M cars) would average 18mpg so if you're achieving 22 with 400, this is not too bad technically! E46 330i's were thirsty too!

The only issue with them for me is that they just aint very quick for the fuel and money your putting in. You dont get much out performance wise and are limited tuning wise with it being NA. I was surprised when I drove one and then we raced it against my Evo from a dig, roll race and through country lanes on a number of occasions the evo being at only 290bhp at the time, 22 years old (Evo 5). I stayed with it no bother which blew my mind. I am aware the evo is a quarter of a ton lighter but my mates had well over 440bhp with a full exhaust system and map. I guess to todays standards its certainly not a rapid car but back in their day they were pretty good. Big benefit with this model over the other m3's is the sound for sure. You have to have an aftermarket exhaust on these things to get the full note, it would be criminal not to. Nice car over all but lacking in some departments. I feel the e46 m3 handles better but doesnt have the same streight line poke or sound. The new m3 is in a whole diffrent league now, ive just sold my 2015 m4 and it pretty much munched everything with just a map at 500bhp. I have never been sure on these cars but there is something about them thats very appealing.

#1 - dude you don't start the car and just let it warm up idling. Turn it over, let it go thru it's start up cycle and start driving it. My car warms up in under 10 mins even in below freezing temps. #2 it's a V8 dude. If u worry about fuel economy it's the wrong car for u. I can get 50 miles per 1/4 tank daily city driving. #3 the lack of oil dipstick does suck. U got a good point there. #4 the DCT while amazingly quick, depending on your luck, can either serve you well for the entirety of ownership or ull def need to service the thing by 80k miles #5 meh while the E9X should have come with 4 piston brakes, the oem brakes are totally efficient. You can find much cheaper options if you don't wanna pay 3k for oem rotors or just buy a rotor sets from other m3 owners who have upgraded to big brake kits #6 just buy pre-owned parts. That's what I did for my driveshaft and trans. #7 the system with the HK is fantastic and has nice range. You also need to keep your music device volume below it's max threshold while using the cars system for volume control. #8 we pay a yearly excise tax here in my state and my old 335 was only 30 bucks cheaper than my m3. Insurance costs me $110 a month. So not that pricey. For repairs buy used vetted parts and find a fair independent mechanic if you wanna do it on the cheap.

The most annoying thing about the digital oil gauge in this car is that it can't measure anything until it reaches the operating temperature! So combined with the problem of slow warm-up, this would mean that you don't live far away from work (like me), you would NEVER get to check your oil level in daily commute! I had to resort to taking detours deliberately on my way home from work just to check the oil level! But I love this car to bits.....

Something’s wrong, mine takes 10-15 min to get up to temp (190F), in outside temp around freezing. The fuel economy is a legitimate complaint, as is the poor brakes and notchy gear change. Parts are expensive but these are German cars that were 70k USD new so no surprises there. The audio sounds great when equipped with the upgraded sound system. Complaint about the quality of the shift knob seems a bit nit picky.

Warm up no difference in time to my 1M with the N54 engine. Don't sit waiting for it, just drive steady for around 10 miles. Yep, no dipstick here either, much prefer one.

Yeah, the bearings are known to fail, BMW fixed the issue in the later cars but it’s still recommended to change them. Costs around 2/3k.

Decent review. I had a manual e92 M3. I went back to an e46 M3. I feel it's more visceral and engaging. It does have an oil dip stick. There were 4 speaker options: standard, BMW, Harman Kardon which has the name on it, and individual audio system that you can tell have an inner circle.

I was worried about my dct transmission cause when I would floorer it in 1rst gear the gas pedal would vibrate and my engine sound would increase then when I would upshift the vibration would stop and the engine would sound normal. 2 days ago I installed a bomiz axle back exhaust and race x pipe and the vibration went away and the weird engine noise is gone, turns out I had an exhaust leak by the headers which the shop told me they found and fixed

10w-60 is going to take a long time to warm up, but I find the OEM "M Twin Power Turbo" the quickest and Liqui moly takes the longest.

Its not it being a 4L V8 that makes it take ages to warm up, it's the hella *thicc* 10w60 oil Also uh could you like put something to block the oil cooler to warm it up faster 🤪😂 obvs take it off after, like with the aerial attoms, their cooling is so good that the problem isn't overheating when driving hard, but instead just warming up is real hard, so owners cover it all up to get up to temperature faster, then take it all off when up to temp
