I've had 5 M3's, and this is my favorite. The throttle response, linear power and sound are WAY better than the M4, but you're right about the crappy fuel mileage. It's hysterical that the fuel light comes on at 1/4 tank!

I have a 2008 E90 M3 with 83K miles on it and the biggest, expensive failures I've paid for or done myself in the last 7 years: 1) Replace throttle valve actuators, ~$1000 each at budget shop, ~$2000 each at dealer; 2) Replace leaking valve cover gaskets (my DIY cost ~$350; dealer cost ~$1100) 3) Replace leaking oil filter housing gasket ~$600 at budget shop). Tire and fuel costs about the same you mentioned... but in the US, I'm only getting 14 city mpg and 20 highway mpg, usually combined around 15 mpg so it does guzzle gas. Upgrades I recommend and have done: $150 for AFE high flow intake; $1700 for Borla exhaust - sounds amazing and combined estimated 50 hp increase... highly recommend this car if you can stomach the expensive failures, which once fixed, won't happen again for another ~70K miles. Oil changes, even DIY, are expensive as the oil is ~$12 per liter and it takes ~9 liters and filter is ~$20
@jayrave46 жыл бұрын
I took my 12-year-old 1993 E36 M3 up to over 200,000 miles and it never missed a beat - no matter what I threw at it. The original clutch lasted 130,000 miles before it gave up, but that was the only thing that ever went on it - the engine was totally untouched in all that time . Like yourself, I carried out regular oil changes (every 5000 Miles) and that really does make a difference to longevity.

@EugVR66 жыл бұрын
Augusto Ortiz no he probably hasn't got a licence... I would say one thing to you, the E46 csl was epic car but the std e46 M3 was an excellent car, also dont write off the E36, as a few good editions were made that corrected the issues of the 1st E36 M3, the 3.0GT was a very good car which was a homologation special for GT racing and the 3.2 EVO was how the E36 M3 should have been from the start, but if your from the States then you never got the E36 in full M spec, as the States got a slightly breathed on 328i sport which was turned into a 3.0 with a few mods putting out 240hp while the E36 EVO had 321hp with a proper M engine 👍
@johncreedon18336 жыл бұрын

@EugVR66 жыл бұрын
Augusto Ortiz it is odd BMW went to all that fuss and trouble modifying the 328i sport and calling it an M3 when they could of just exported the M3 to the states..... The E36 M3 3.0GT is the one worth all the money as they are shooting up in price over here...their mods were, upper and lower strut braces, dual oil pumps, baffled sump, adjustable splitter and larger adjustable rear wing, different cams and revised inlet mainfold, BMW rated them at 295hp but the tuners all say its more like 315hp when put on the rollers... Out of the 50 RHD versions, there are only 27 left and all were British racing green....👍

Yes, owning a 2013 M3 E92 w/competition package, DCT, CF roof, all options except heated seats, has ruined me in the under $100K car range. The M3 w/V-8 has been a very dependable and very reliable daily driver. Yes parts are expensive and dealerships overcharge for every service with tires at TWICE the normal price which bothers me the most! Plus even the dealership usually has to order a tire most always not in stock, so new tire means a DROP OFF & WAIT 2 DAYS.........but my dealership provides LOANER cars FOR FREE! That loaner program will figure in heavily as to if I buy my next car via their sales team. Loaners bring back buyers! The M3 E92 V8 is a car that will always put a smile on your face, every time you start it up! BUY ONE NOW, DO NOT WAIT for prices to go UP. It’s so much fun to drive even going to get groceries can be fun if you take that long, twisty road to the store..............(stock everything & still fun) but wait till I supercharge at 7 years of ownership.

Oil analysis doesn't mean shit, if you get a used one, replaced the bearings. Unless the person before you has been doing the oil testing every oil change you are not gonna be able to detect the bearings going out. Not having previous data to compare your data with is a big issue. This is really bad advice, the first thing you should do when getting an e92 m3 is the bearings so you don't need to rebuild the engine.

1 question , what makes rod bearings usually break?
@E92M3Guy6 жыл бұрын
Munzir Rafik they don't break they wear out. With lack of lubrication because 10w60 oil is quite thick when cold so lubrication happens properly when the engine is fully warmed up and the viscosity of the oil thins out thus giving much better lubrication so reducing wear on the bearings. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much mate. So glad you like the videos. Let me know what you’d like to see next. Is the Clio a popular car in Germany?
@schluesselbundrd6 жыл бұрын
Road and Race In general the Clio is not the most popular car in Germany because the usual ones are just simple, small cars and Renault is still for many a synonym for "zero reliability". But the Renault Clio and Megane RS versions of pretty much every generation are very popular as cars for everyday use AND going on a track. Especially the nordschleife is a place you can find many of them. I am driving Renault basically all my life and actually a Clio mk 4. I never had any real issues with my Renaults, so I can't understand people talking so much about "bad French cars" without having ever owned one. I think it's somehow the same as with "an M3 costs you a fortune to own" or "driving Porsche is only possible if you are earning money like a doctor". Everybody heard something, but almost nobody really knows it really. I think such content about fun but affordable cars (compared to what they did cost new) and how to improve them is a really great topic and not too much on KZbin yet.

One year with my 2011 E92 ZCP has ruined me with performance, sound and luxury. One shop oil change at $199(usd), at home oil change $129 (usd from FCP Euro), four new tires, $700 and a replacement headlight, moisture $500, off eBay, replaced battery and alternator at home $400 from Autozone and battery reset $75 at local shop. don’t count fuel consumption, as that’s under our own control. Planning rod bearing and respected local shop does it for $2499. Under $5000 in a year, seems pricey for the average driver, but M3 owners aren’t your average driver. I tried the auto off at stop feature and find it confusing. Turns off to save fuel but we know start up takes more fuel than driving.

Very useful video. I've always wanted an E92. Now that I can afford the M3 I'm likely to buy one.

Great video as always Neil. I'd like to see you sell it purely for selfish reasons as it's great to get your in-depth insight on cars you've owned. Tough car to replace tho.

Thanks mate, so nice if you to say! Yeah will be a tough one to replace! Tesla have offered me a press loan of their Model S in a few week so I’ll get to review that soon.

Haha 550 pounds for tax a year? Try Holland mate. I drive a 320d and I pay a whopping 1350 pounds a year and about 1100 pounds for insurance a year. I have to admit that the tax for a diesel car is about higher than a petrol car. For a M3 you'll pay about 830 quid, but you the insurance also is a lot more. This is the most awful country to live in if you're a catfanatic haha, and I haven't even told you about the prices of cars. The government even makes you pay tax for importing a car. They also put a different kind of tax on all new cars. Its like tax on tax in a kind of way. Just writing about it makes me want to cry 😣
@matteomolon43346 жыл бұрын
Italy is even worse for a petrolhead, here an e92 only for taxes is around 1650 pounds a year, and that beacuse its more than 10 years old, because if it was new, that would have been even worse. Taxes would be around 3000 pounds; also insurance is tremendous, i believe 2000 pounds a year would be. Unless you have a pretty fair job, its basically impossible to live with such a car here 😔

^ we are lucky down here.. i have a 2008 e92 335i motorsport and full insurance is only $45 a fortnight. Its shiping parts here that kills you though

Wow!....i pay £200 a yr insurance, no road tax and fuel has just gone down to 25p a litre!, yes 25p!....in the flip side tyres are £400 a corner, parts are extortionate but I buy from abroad.....Great car!!!

Nankangs are actually really quite good (in the dry) and fun in the wet, ive had plenty of 400bhp+ cars and always swapped out what ever rubber is on them for nankangs, i cant imagine how you are getting 2 years out of rear tyres, i dont think ive ever had a set of rears last a year, no matter which rubber 😂

Hey great video, glad you're enjoying the car. I think I may have bought my 2011 M3 just after you got yours. I bought mine with an extended warranty for an extra $5k. Got her in June of 2017. Since then I've done my own oil change, I changed the spark plugs, cabin air filters, and wiper blades. I also put on a set if Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s for the winter. I bought a set of cheap wheels for them so I can change them out myself, when I feel like it. I've flushed and filled the coolant, I'm using Brembo pads which cost less than the BMW pads. I changed the sensor wires at the same time too. Unfortunately I have had some issues. There was a recall on the battery cable that supplies power to all electronics on the car, my car was affected. In fact, I found out about the recall after I experienced the problem. Luckily, my extended warranty covers roadside assistance and BMW Canada paid for the recall service. This was a major failure, nothing on the car worked, you couldn't even start it. The DSC module on the car failed, again... luckily my extended warranty covered the cost of the part and labour which was over $5k, so that extended warranty has paid for itself in less than a year. Other than that she has been great. I bought her with 87,000 KM and I've put on 9,000 km. Sounds like music and goes like a beast! Track days are fun, daily drives are a little frustrating, as she wants to rev but I rarely have space to let her sing in traffic. Thanks for the vid.

I hate traction control period. My buddy has convinced me not to buy an M car, for parts & inevitable service cost without doing the job yourself you just end up paying way more. Luckily you found a well loved car. Going to go for a single twin scrolled turbocharged N55 335i coupe and mod it. Less replacement parts minus previous years cost of twin turbo. Downside slightly less power but more reliable and less than 65k miles at an average of $17k depending on RWD AWD Correct me if Im wrong?

Before committing to the Michilens, give Continental Extreme Contacts a try. I run those on my car, and it's nearly as good as the PS but cost must less.

Hello from Ireland. I pay around £600 a year tax on an e46 320d. Your M3 would have an annual road tax of £2061 here. That's not a typo! Hope that makes you feel slightly better. Great channel BTW 👍
@RoadandRacetv6 жыл бұрын

Lol leaf grills, I wish on the e46 m3 that was all I had to worry about. I did 35k miles in 2 years in mine and that got fairly expensive... boot floor crack repair/reinforcement, shims, new alternator, servicing, tyres, brakes, tax... cost around £6k not including fuel (avg 20mpg) and mods... then on top there’s that imminent smg pump failure paranoia lol... If that goes it’s another £2-4K to get it replaced. Luckily though it never missed a beat... but the e92 seems like a relative steal compared.
@bsouza16756 жыл бұрын
I think 16mpg to 26mpg is very good for a 400+ hp 8 cylinder engine...I have a E46 M3 6 cylinder with 333 hp and that is the mileage I get...In any case very nice car ....Cheers 🥂

Don’t fear lower cost tyre brands. Kumho has real shone in later years and the PS91 getting excellent reviews with a 96% ‘will buy again’ rating. 275/35/19 on my F10 530d £101 each

I drive an e92 330i and do 40 miles a day driving to work and back on the motorway, the obc in the car tells me I'm averaging about 30mpg so really not that much more than your glorious M3. It's the cost of repairs when it goes wrong that scare me though, that and the road tax. My 330i costs me £235 for the year to tax, that M3 is more than twice the cost, OUCH. Then there are the consumable items like brakes, £300 a corner just for the discs, no pads!! I REALLY want one of these cars but it would bankrupt me in a year🙁
