ASEAN states need to be careful not to follow in the footsteps of the EU with it's shared currency. What they do need however, is to improve their existing infrastructures to sustain their rapid growth. Freedom of movement and a strong anti corruption/poverty/terrorism act. Redefine sea lanes and EEZ so no one bumps to the other.

each ASEAN country can't be united as one mind and one tought. we are independent on how we interact each other. eventhough we are independent, we can be united as one big family. as a family, we don't have to be agree on anything. we don't have to be say the same thing. we can be our own self. BUT, as a family, we must think to the same goal and we have right on how we are doing to reach that goal

If ASEAN becomes a unified country. Capital: Bangkok (because ASEAN was formally founded at Bangkok) possible capitals are also Jakarta and Singapore (ASEAN headquarters are at Jakarta meanwhile Singapore is the most advanced country in the SEA region. Official Religion: Islam (majority) Christian (secondary) Buddhist (secondary) Head of State (The Leader): The present ASEAN Secretary General (possible) Government Type: Federal (majority) Republic (secondary) Official Currency: Since the 10 countries are unified SEA Dollars could be the possible name (not sure , i dont know) Official Anthem: The ASEAN Way (Present ASEAN anthem) (possible anthem as well) They could be a Union of Kingdoms and Republics of South East Asia just like the USSR.

I actually would like to see what happens if ASEAn becomes a Federation of nations with one central government that would only have power on national affairs and localized governments that would take care of local affairs. This will greatly reduce tensions in Asia, since most of the countries with disputes over the South China Sea will be part of ASEAN.

10 normal sized individuals have their own interest, making it hard to cooperate, a fat person only has a single interest
@arianpusponegoro7402
@arianpusponegoro7402 7 жыл бұрын
but in this case (ASEAN) has 10 members(i think) who work together to one extent,but if they (we) unite to one country would be unbalanced in the bigger countries(y) would be burdened,also, we have nationalism, so it would be easier to cooperate as friends than as one probably,the normal sized individuals work together in one group, but not become one giant, they can get much more done working alongside each other than if they had to be part of each other(taking the good with the bad of each member) rather than each person taking care of themself while landing a hand to each other, united perhaps we would be better, but that would also force all members of ASEAN or no members of ASEAN to the dispute of the south china sea, which i think only 3 or 4 out of 10 actually have disputes with china on the matter, meaning if we unite int o a single country all our views will be dismissed since we have different issues, some will be dismissed, and some will be forced upon others, causing there to be more turmoil in the South China Sea, and some regulations such as anti-free trade policies might be forced upon the former countries who could not bare it (if there are any countries like that).

Asean cooperation may start from education than currency. At least there should be more people who knows not just English or mandarin, but also the official languages of nearby countries. To do this, the easiest way is to upgrade existing asean-like university alliance, more funding enhancing more students and teachers exchange between each others. It is internal improvement but it needs more global involvement. In the opinion of Hong Kong people, the strength of asean countries are not just domestic helpers, but also the stable food supply, the nice travel place, the improving manufacturing place. Hong Kong originally can help as a perfect off-shore financial place supporting asean countries (other than singapore as insider), especially because Hong Kong money is connected to US dollars. Hong Kong is near but outside asean region. Hong Kong has sufficient southeast asian people living essences, such as restaurants and markets, banks and money exchange, and excellent mobile network for connecting to home countries. Therefore, asean should be actively support Hong Kong freedom aligned with global developed countries' standard.

Most common function about ASEAN Factors of Production in every macroeconomics class. Singapore Malaysia Brunei provides Capital. (like a surprise that your child got a lot of piggy bank) Vietnam Thailand Lao Myanmar Cambodia provides Land. (like a granny in the house with a huge backyard) Philippines provides Labor. The true beauty of Asean is having a tropical with a temperate climate when agro-production can be harvested through out the year. Now, the Northern hemisphere is having winter when agro-production is not permissible with the land frozen snow cold. Farther down-under is Australia when summer has arrived fruits of various types everbloom and ever. This is a strong and valid reason that make the Europeans very adventurous in their gone are the days of their colonisations. Vietnam(France), Philipines(Spain), Indonesia(Holland), Burma(UK), Malaysia & Singapore(UK) except Thailand(the Royal Kingdom of Siam). ASEAN "FOREVER & EVER"

silbaar ASEAN nationals no longer require visas, with the exception of Indonesians to Myanmar, to enter other ASEAN countries. This hopefully will not be the case in the near future. Citiizens are still required to use a national passport (issued by Immigration office) and not an ID (local agencies) to move around. When it comes to cross-border employment, ASEAN currently has a few MRAs in place but mostly in skilled labour, meaning that not all qualification/ skills are automatically recognized in another country. Each country still has their own national requirements which limits free movement of labour , hence creating a form of NTB.

I'm looking at this from the European Union and I'm really interested to see how this ASEAN adventure pans out. How far do you think ASEAN should integrate economically and politically? Is there a plan for a single currency? Or for some kind of federal structure?

Muhammad Muharrik The answer is that it's not. It intensifies competition within the zone by making price comparison easier. That means increased trade and cheaper costs. But over time, there has to be political institutions to govern the monetary zone. No currency has ever survived long without a state. You can have that for a few years but at some point, there has to be the political backing of a state. And on that front, I simply do not know what ordinary ASEAN citizens think. It would be interesting to see what Indonesians, Filipinos or Thais think about it. Would they be willing to create a strong political entity to give credibility to that currency? I have a hunch that ASEAN members are more flexible and more willing to make pragmatic compromises than Europeans and therefore could possibly advance faster and more effectively than we can.

I am from an ASEAN member state and all I can say is that we don't intend to follow the EU's model of integration. We are looking closely at what is now happening in Europe and are learning our lessons. It's one of perks of being the younger regional organisation of the two. No federal state. No common currency. No ASEAN citizenship. Our goal is to be like the European Economic Community rather than the EU which replaced it.

BlunderCity we believe it was a mistake for europe to have joined monetary policy, you hurt your member states independence and prevents them from flexibly reacting to market shifts, also deadlocks richer economies to poorer ones.

John Isaac Felipe _"you hurt your member states independence"_ So why not have a currency per region then? Hell, one per city? How about one per quarter? One for the poor part of town, one for the rich! You see where this argument has limits? Sure, if we had one currency per city, it would more closely fit the economy of the city. But it would be tremendously inefficient and costly. The same applies to Europe. Also, a lot of people fail to understand that, it's not because you are independent on paper than you really are in actual facts. I'm old enough to remember the days when we had our own currencies (for me the French Franc) and I can tell you, no one was independent. All central banks across Europe had to follow the decisions of the Bundesbank in Frankfurt. It was the opposite of sovereignty: on paper, we were totally independent. In reality, our monetary policy was decided in Germany. Today, it is still decided in Germany but with representatives of each member states rather than a entirely German monetary committee. _"prevents them from flexibly reacting to market shifts"_ You mean by devaluing the currency? Do you not understand how this is austerity by stealth? _"also deadlocks richer economies to poorer ones"_ How so?

wait what?! CHINA?! I would say only the republic of China (Taiwan) should join UAN... I mean... all ASEAN member states doesn't have good relations with China so maybe they would disband it because of many member states leaving the union...
