@danschneider75315 жыл бұрын
That's what Pesci says but it's an old Mafia urban legend. Most of the stuff in the film is Mon legendry passed on by Hill to Scorsese who swallowed it as truth. Hill, like many gangsters, wanted to make his seedy life a bit more memorable. In this way, Goodfellas is as unrealistic as The Godfather films in portraying Mob life.

I met Henry Hill at a Goodfellas screening in Mt. Pleasant, SC just outside of Charleston back in 2012. He was around 5'2 - 5'3, a lot different than his portrayal with Ray Liotta. Meanwhile Tommy DeSimone was probably around Liotta's height but was portrayed by Joe Pesci at 5'2 - 5'3". Pretty funny that I would meet Hill while living in South Carolina when I grew up in Queens. But I guess that's Witness Protection for ya :) He lived out his last days in Topanga, CA and died later that year.

At one point early in the movie, there was a reference to one of Joe Pesci's famous friends. A woman (can't remember her name) said something like, "Who do ya think ya are?! Frankie Valli?! Some kinda big shot?!" If you've seen the play or movie version of "Jersey Boys", if you were a hard-core fan of the group, or you grew up in that same neighborhood back in the day, you know why this line is important. There's also what I believe is a deliberate "Goodfellas" callback w/in the "J.B." movie. When Joe goes to Bob Gaudio's house & tries to convince him to meet the rest of the guys, Bob gives a slight laugh & says "That's funny." Joe responds, "Funny how?"
@TheDAExperience10 жыл бұрын
I always heard that the "Do You Think I'm Funny" scene was actually improved Liota thought he had legitimately pissed off Pesci and didn't know what was about to happen. Also later when Pauly slaps Liota he really slapped him without letting him know so Liota in the movie is actually shocked which is why he has this stunned look.

The singer in the club portraying Bobby Vinton, was actually Bobby's son Robert. For the famous montage scene set to Derek & The Dominos’ Layla, Scorsese played the piano coda himself during the shooting of each scene, so they could get the rhythm and movement of the camera right, matching up certain bars of the song with specific shots.

I got a really fun fact about this movie. In real life when the prosecutor was trying to convince Henry to rat, yeah his wife Karen was sitting beside him but also waiting in the next room was 2 of Henry's mistresses. Hill wanted them with him in witness protection. This is from Edward MacDonald's mouth himself.

A pretty good list but the single best piece of trivia about Goodfellas is that Fat Andy, who is only seen briefly during the introduction scene, was played by Lou Eppolito. Eppolito was a real life NYPD organized crime division cop and was working on the set as a technical advisor. Lou Eppolito and his parter were also paid hitmen who worked for the Lucchese Crime Family. Both are now in prison.

Amazed no one brought up Henry Hill's apparent innocence throughout the story as told by Hill. He was the one locking the door while Batts was getting whacked, he opened the trunk then they stabbed and shot him... the only thing Hill owns up to is coke running and no one got killed doing that.
@simonjeste9 жыл бұрын
J M Petrilak Until recently, the liar Henry Hill was saying he never killed anybody ... until he let the truth slip on Howard Stern (!) ... so it's tough to believe ANY of his biased version of events. (Glad he told his story though, Goodfellas was an incredibly engaging movie experience... and I skimmed the Wikipedia for a bunch of the RL people involved and it's even more fascinating, horrifying, sad, etc...)

Bonus fact... The Steve Martin / Rick Moranis film, 'My Blue Heaven' is the sequel to Goodfellas. Goodfellas was based on the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi and the film ends with him going into witness protection. My Blue Heaven was written by Pileggi's wife, Nora Ephron and is about, you guessed it... A mobster in witness protection. Moving on...

I'm my movie class we had to write an analysis of any film we wanted and this guy did Goodfellas. When we were turning in our papers we had to explain why we the picked the movies we picked and this guy... he turned it and said, "I picked Goodfellas..." some other guys in class wooed and stuff, he turned around stared at us all and then said, "because as far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster." Everyone cheered... teacher included.

Goodfellas has ties to Michael Jackson. The late Frank DiLeo who played Tuddy was Jackson's friend and manager. Not to mention Scorsese directed Jackson's Bad video and Scorsese's parents whom are both in Goodfellas had a cameo appearance in the Bad video and Joe Pesci co-starred in Jackson's film Moonwalker.

The ‘Funny how’ bit was totally improvised so the look of confusion you see on Ray Liotta was genuine. He thought Pesci was grilling him because he had misread his line or something. The look or relief was also completely real, when he realized Joe was joking.

Pleas do "7 things you didn't know about The Godfather"
@EricCartman-mx5wg9 жыл бұрын
1. That horse head was real 2. Every time an orange was shown, somebody got killed 3. The actor for Luca Brasi was actually nervous for real, because Marlon Brando was his favorite actor 4. Robert De Niro auditioned for the role of Sonny, but lost to James Caan. 5. Don Corleone might look old, but it was actually makeup. 6. Some of the cast members were related to the mafia. Like that guy that played Clemenza, who had an uncle or so, who was part of the mafia. 7. John Fontane, the singer, is based off Frank Sinatra. Maybe I got 1 or 2 things wrong. But most of it is pretty accurate.
