For a lot of artists who deal with this it's because they can't hear themselves. For anyone who has performed on stage a lot they have probably run into this problem at least once if not more. You can get really disoriented when the music is way louder than your mic or your vocals are blending into everything so you just cannot hear (or even feel) wth you are doing. It's sensory overload tbh.

See the thing is, if you can't hear the music around you correctly, you can never know if you're in the right key or not. Most of the time (like with the first Jessie J clip) it's a technical issue with the singer's in-ears

Ariana's perf was one of her worst tbh. Tho she regained the key in some parts, she sounded sharp at the low notes and was inconsistent with the key during the high note, sliding flat if you ask me she sung even in her Bang Bang and Problem performance on the same day and event was inconsistent. But ofc, Ariana has served tons of great performance, this just proves that every singer has bad days during performances. Her vocals as of today has become better and better. A better technique and a slaying performace without being too extra. Now that's queen.

I can't really blame Ariana for her vocals here. I've tried singing when my vocal chords are just really tired and worn, and it sounded just like she did. She was hitting a lot of the notes, but her singing stayed right under the pitch she tried hitting, and her voice sounded really tired. Usually, singing sharp means you're pushing your voice too hard in the moment, and sustaining a flat key is usually the vocal chords tiring out. 😟

Jessie J is out-of-tune because she's singing with throat tension, which makes it hard to control the voice when singing. Same with Katy Perry. I'm not sure about Ariana, Camilla and Rihanna but I think it is because those notes are beyond their supported range (either too high or too low). Christina Aguilera's agility is always bad. Selena almost never really hit the notes correctly because she cannot support.
