Best tip is to flow with the event and put clips in the order you shot them. Otherwise things won't fall in place. But you can break this rule if you know that extra clip will add more to the scenario such as a flashback. Am just a hobbyist that take casual shots and clips and merge them but out of habit I still check if SD card is functioning, batteries are charged (for this I always turn the cam on and off couple times prior to the event). I have seen countless of times where a friend or someone not a professional thinking 'ah who cares am just gonna go there with one lens or one battery' and then you see them using their phone because their gear gave up. Hope this adds to his list. Cheers!

commenting here only after watching the montage without the tips part ... really loved the edit! here are a few notes I took during.... the main point is variety. it changes from a few tasty slow mo shots, to normal speed... a few shots of people talking to a few environment shots.... and then also some variety in sound, so not just one consistent music track but also including some ambient sounds throughout gave the video great variety, never was I bored during the montage.... good job, bud! edit: post tips version the one I loved the most was keeping the overall story in mind when shooting and including those transitional shots of going through doorways to the new environment is an awesome tip!!

Great video mate. Could you advice me on what lighting may be used for a small birthday party with around 35 people in small indoor venue. Thank you
@WillChidlow4 жыл бұрын
Personally I would try and avoid lighting in this scenario to keep it feeling more natural but if it is really dark then perhaps an on camera led might be best to avoid being too intrusive. Hope that helps

I try to work to a day rate, decide what you want to charge for a day and then work out how much work is involved. Also always discuss what clients have to spend, you may have to deliver only some of what you'd like to if a clients budget is tight.

I suggest you take a good look at the sigma 17-50mm f2.8. Since you're using an aps-c DSLR, I think it will serve you waaaay better than the kit lens. Bear in mind that the stabilization isn't as good as the one that most modern Canon lenses are using though.
@WillChidlow6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and commenting 👍 I’ve not used that lens before but I very nearly bought the sigma 24-70 art. Ended up going Canon in the end though and you are so right the slightly wider focal length of your suggestion would always be appreciated!

Did you shoot on Neutral Color setting and just Color Graded in post?
@WillChidlow6 жыл бұрын
Yep exactly, I shot this in the neutral profile but i further reduced contrast, saturation and sharpness even more than the default. that is not essential though, i just wanted the flattest image with the highest dynamic range for best results in post.

Shooting at a hotel party for my cousin (DJ) with a Canon C100 mk ii. Going to shoot in C-Log and only have 2 lenses, 24-105 f4L and 50mm f1.8 STM. I also own an LED panel thats quite soft, and a cheap fluid head. I'm only going to rig that with a monopod I'm borrowing.

Hey Will great video, i have seen it already like 10 times, im trying to get as much details as possible 🤟🏼 I have some question, ill be doing a similar video of a party and im planing to go with your style (since i loved ur video soo much) my question is, did you use a gimbal or stabilizer for the camera? And if you recommend to attach a mic
@WillChidlow6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jorge! 👋 thanks so much for watching and for your kind words 👍 I did not use a gimble for this video, it was all shot handheld just using my camera strap on my neck for a bit of extra stability. This was challenging but I didn’t want to be really obvious when filming. For other events I really like using a monopod to get smoother shots. I do not own a gimble (yet 😜) but if you have access to one then you will certainly get really smooth shots. Regarding using a mic, I used a Rode videomic pro attaches to my camera to capture audio but in the end I only used a very small amount of the audio because the venue was very noisy and the final video had music. I tend to assume I won’t get any good audio for this style of video but keep the mic on just in case. Hope that helps and good luck with your filming 👍😎🙌

Quick question. I'm shooting at event my only concern just thinking wether I will need a light? What do you think? Also I only have a 18-55mm currently and one battery. I am definitely going to buy a extra lens(wide angle possibly) and definitely buying another battery. Subbed by the way! :-)
@WillChidlow6 жыл бұрын
Hi Derrick, thanks for watching and commenting! It really depends what sort of footage you want, generally i try to avoid using lights unless I absolutely have to, I find them quite intrusive and people become very aware of you when you shine a light in their face! That said, if you are trying to get interviews at the event then often a light is the best way to et good footage. If you are just capturing the event and trying to get natural footage then id steer clear. hope that helps and hope the filming goes well 😎👍
@odufuwafotos8989 Жыл бұрын
Finance may made you be with one lens: 18- 55 mm but believe me,there's no excuse for having just one battery , just one memory card ,while going out to shoot . In fact, it's Etter to rush having one lens but definitely not one battery or one memory card

Hey Will, awesome video! I have one question. What value of ISO you use ? Do you push up more than 1600 on the 700d ? Cheers from Argentina 👍
@WillChidlow7 жыл бұрын
Hey Fran, thanks for watching! I always try to keep ISO as low as possible. 1600 on the 700d is normally as high as I like to go, higher and the footage is very noisy! But when you’ve got to shoot, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do! Often when using footage shot at 1600 or higher I use a plugin called Neat Video which is amazing as reducing noise and cleaning up footage, it’s not a cheap plugin but it’s available for most editors and the results are amazing! Thanks again for watching and I hope this helps 👍

Hey Ronnie, you are so right and it boggles me too.
