preach it sister preach it. whenever I inform persons that i will not be taking orders for the next 2 weeks they keep asking me if is not a business i have. I know my body and I know my limits. I don't take these long breaks often but when I do it's for a reason. I take these breaks to have time for myself, to rejuvenate my body and mind. I find that I am much more creative and inspired to try new ideas after these breaks. although i am just in the early stages of my business, I am still employed and I have to balance things out. and yes Scheduling and planning is a must or else you will be running around like a headless chicken. Great tips!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing

My dear, I have realised that taking care of one's self is just as important. You know yourself better than anyone else. I totally agree on balancing time, effort and resources between your business and personal life.

Going to use these tips for myself. I’m rebranding my business-dropping the “consignment” aspect and focusing on upcycling and creation. I found that trying to be an environmentalist while also trying to make money isn’t working for me because I’m stressed about promoting sustainability while also still being broke 🤦🏽♀️. I was even working on a project and everything was going well until when I finished, I said to myself “I hate sewing!” Now I love sewing! I have been sewing for over 20 years. But the fact that my stress of my business and depression is causing me to hate the thing I love the most, I realized I needed to make a change! Hopefully I can create more content and still promote sustainability but now I want to focus on the art of fashion. Plus I’m starting my masters this fall so maybe I can do even more research on if my business model is viable AND profitable!

Omg I was just thinking this the other day. Trying to be sustainable as a young business is not cheap at all. Even though it’s the right thing to do, it comes at the expense of your bank account and mental well being sometime. I totally relate. I have been trying to find a balance where I can operate with sustainable ethics (paying people who work for me), make smaller quantities and use fabrics that will wear well over time(not compulsorily polyester all the time but more of a blend). It really is tough my dear but we are trying to figure it out every day.

@@KimDave I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one. I figured I was just bad at this business 🤣🤣🤣 but those are also some good advice that I may consider too. I do want to find a way to take the cheap, polyester fabric and still try to elevate it in some form. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve never experienced my clothes just tearing apart on me after a few wears (and I’m like a child with it comes to my clothes lol, just moving around, squatting, doing this and that and of course getting makeup and food on my clothes lol). Even pieces that end up with holes, I’m too lazy to repair but have never thought to just toss them. So I’m sure there is a way to continue using those fabrics and upcycling them in some form. I mean plastic bottles can become tshirts lol (idk how but Gildan somehow figured it out). But it’s so amazing to know I’m not the only one and I appreciate you shouting me out on Instagram 🤗. Really does reassure me that I’m doing the right thing and changing my mindset!!

Thank you very much for the tips. Another way to beat an overwhelming task is to break it into smaller tasks. Do a little chunk every day and, in the long run, the huge task appears smaller and manageable.

I found myself pushing me way too hard. Feeling like I had to do everything to meet stringent goals to include family obligations to the point I was burning myself out. You could not be more right, Priscilla, we are not super women and we have to stop doing that to ourselves and allowing others to put us in that position for their benefit. Pray and meditation is so key; just to have that connection to God and the universe makes all the difference in the world. All wonderful tips, Sis. Thank you for this video!

I am just beginning to have a business, but it's not sewing. I do think all of your points apply to me and anyone who is beginning a business. Thank you so much!! I do have a question. I purchased the waxed cotton large floral fabric you were offering a couple of weeks ago and I am not sure how to clean it. Can it be washed or do I need to have it dry cleaned? Hope you don't mind me asking this in this section. Thanks!
@KimDave3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome Peggy. The Ankara fabric can be washed at 30 degrees wash or by hand. However I would advise not to tumble dry but hang to dry instead. Hope this helps

I really like the idea of the vision board. just to remind yourself what was actually the goal and what's important to yourself. These things get often lost during stressful times, at least in my case. Although, I probably would do a vision book as I'm moving a lot. A digital version would be more convenient, but I'm spending so much time in front of the computer, that I just wanna avoid it as often as I can. ^^*
