When we plant young trees (just planted 4 Citrus trees a few days ago) we dig 4' long by 3' wide by 3' deep. Put in Gypsum to combat this clay soil, a layer of straw, some veggie waist in the outskirts of the hole, a layer of composted soil mixed with native soil, then Azomite, Earthworm casings, Mycorrhyzae, then another layer of mixed soil, put tree in and cover with mixed soil. Layer of straw (hard to get wood chips here without having to load ourselves - in our 70s - unable to do that anymore) for mulch. Water and rest. Judi

Story: me and my Nana LOVE avocado toast, so we started growing the avocado seeds everytime after we ate the toast, and now, one of them that we put in the ground and put a milk jug top on it to improve humidity, it’s starting to get leaves! That was about two or so weeks ago 🥳

Your videos are really informative and helpful. I have my own passion fruit farm and I have adopted sprinkler irrigation just like what you did in the video. However, I wish to adopt drip irrigation instead because I think it will save more water and energy but i am afraid that the farm end of the root system will not get enough water. I was wondering if you could explain the pros and cons of drip and sprinkler irrigation. Regards,

Are they grafted? If they are from seed without grafting you can expect 8 to 12 yr.s before fruit if they fruit at all and you won't likely get a quality fruit. If they are blooming but not fruiting you might have try squirting a little dilute (4 to one water/honey) honey water on them to attract bees.

We have a Hass avocado tree from seed I think its about 8 yrs old or so grew in a lg pot till a few yrs ago now its also about 10’ tall. We also bought 3 more a Catalina/Persea Americana 30 ‘X 20 & 2 just say Persea Americana 25’X25’ we did plant them on a slope (good thing) I’m learning after the fact shamefully. After the big “C” we decided to plant many trees, 2 Grapefruit, 2 Mango, 2 Fig, 2 Orange a Navel & Valencia, and we have two Meyer lemon trees, we even found 2 Apple trees for Fl weather Golden Dorsett & Anna. Oh & we replaced 2 wht vinyl patio doors newer but codes changed so used them plus plexiglass and enclosed a Pergola for a green house. Unfortunately we were repairing the home from a sink hole so extremely busy, plus chgd a sitting room to a bdr & made the spa area into a study. had wrkrs but so sloppy fired and redid all the wrk. Same on study except outer walls & windows & exit door. I think anyone w/a hammer calls themselves a carpenter today. So why learning about all the tree care after the fact. Good video thank you for all the great info! Will check out your others.

Tip #8 if you live along the Gulf Coast (ie east of the Continental Divide): Courtesy of poor shipping practices in China, y'all now have the invasive Redbay Ambrosia Beetle and its symbiont, Laurel Wilt Disease. (Invasive) camphor trees (Asian) survive, but literally the entire Laurel family outside of Asia is susceptible to this duo, and are being decimated. European bay (Laurus nobilis), Sassafras albidum, Swamp Bay (Persea palustris), Red bay (Persea borbonia), California bay (Umbellaria californica?) and the various avocados (Persea) are all being destroyed. Lindera benzoin sometimes escapes simply because it tends to have twiggy, narrow branches that aren't very attractive to the wood boring beetle. Follow IFAS and other SE landgrant college systems tracking this pestilence, though the most plausible treatment (injections of systemic pesticide) doesn't seem safe for food crops. Don't move firewood (especially of laurels!). Getting PDR China to act responsibly may be a lost cause, but push for regulations that all wooden products and packaging crossing international borders be heat treated do that fewer invasive nasties get a foothold in the future. Persea palustris (swamp bay) may be rapidly heading to reproductive extinction in its native lands due to the beetle, but since it is in the same genus as avocados, I wonder if it could be used as a moisture (indeed flood) tolerant rootstock for avocados.

Great information, I'm looking to plant avocado in Texas which is hot. I've been to the Caribbean many times, their are avacdo trees sporadically in people's yard or on the side of the road. The weather is mostly hot, is it because it's a different type of avacado?
