Yeah between them and the red dinosaur looking fiends you fight just before, I could never get past the third boss on NGB when I was a kid. If getting exploded every two seconds by the ninja and having your head bitten off by those dinos wasn't bad enough try all that just before a boss fight, that's not bullsh*t at all.

The first Big Daddy. Sure they're a cakewalk later on once you have more weapons, plasmids, etc. But that first encounter is heartpoundingly difficult, especially on hard.

In Magica 1, your "tutorial boss" is Behold the Watcher. After just learning all the controls, 6 different ways to cast spells AND 8 spell elements, you suddenly face him. He hits you with pink projectiles as well as a lazer beam. He's incredibly tough for a new player (unless you know you can cut the rope to your left and drop a chandelier on him, killing him instantly).

Genshin from NGII as well, since you fight him 3 times before fighting the archfiend as the final boss (I found Genshin to be harder than the giant demon that the other fiends spent the whole game trying to resurrect)

True but his final form is super easy, I killed him first try. Murai took more than a year when I was a kid. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that at least seven years passed since I started and beat the game. But when I play it nowadays first Murai still seems much harder.

Iudex Gundyr already had a promotion in the form of Champion Gundyr later on in the game. Was one of the better boss fights in the day the game, after I learned how to prevent him from pummeling me.

What about Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne? Not only is he one of the strongest and fastest hunters in Yharnam, 2/3 of the way through the fight he transforms into a giant werewolf beast and starts jumping around the boss arena. Also, since I'm sure someone will bring it up, The Cleric Beast is an optional boss that you can completely miss, so you end up facing Father Gascoigne first. And you have to beat him to advance in the game.

Deathstroke isn’t the first boss, it’s Killer Croc, who you show the aftermath of in this very video. And Electrocutioner’s “fight” happens before Deathstroke. Hard as the fight is it’s a big stretch to call him a first boss.

I personally think Copperhead was a harder boss than Deathstroke, especially on I Am The Night Mode. Since Copperhead counts as a knife-wielding enemy, and the mode doesnt show you the counter warnings, and youre fighting 20 of her at one time, I found it the most annoying boss to beat. The reason why is because since she has the same attacks as a blade enemy, you dont know if she'll throw the regular slash attack or the long attack you HAVE to hold down the counter button to avoid damage. And since theres so many of her around you, you'll probably just press the button once and get hit 3 more times which drains your health fast. Soooo many retries

I remember when I first picked up Yakuza 0, it was my first time playing a game in the series. Kuze kicked my ass HARD! He's definitely a step up from all the mobs of goons you encounter in the streets of Kamurocho. He has long combo strings, counterattacks, a huge lifebar and your Kiryu is probably pretty weak at that point in game because (as a newcomer) you wouldn't exactly expect the first boss to be this challenging. Or maybe that's just me, I dunno.

Nope, that was exactly my experience too. Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza game so I had no idea I should take my time doing some substories and actually buying skills. Nor did I know how locking-on worked properly. When I replayed Y0 this year after having played all the entries in the series, I schooled Kuze so hard!

I sympathize, even though I only died once. The game is generous with this fight's checkpoints, so even if you die, it doesn't boot you back to the first room. Kuze himself is tough indeed. Next to no healing options, no other learned styles except Brawler, and almost no other chance to earn money beforehand shifts the scales more in Kuze's favor. Makes it satisfying to beat a boss that's been kickin' your ass, doesn't it?

@@KingdomKey-ik4xk oh absolutely! It forces you to learn the mechanics of the game and pushes you forward early on! There are a lot of harder fights both in this game and later ones, but Kuze is a great initiation. Even story wise, it's Kiryu's first fight against a veteran yakuza badass, it'd makes sense for him to struggle, no matter how much of a badass he becomes later. I just hope that Kuze boss fight doesn't discourage too many people away from the game, it's such a classic!

Gundyr is still one of the easiest bosses in souls. The trick is to stay behind him and Dodge forward+left. Also his music is excellent.

Strafe and strike. But he hits like a bus and is really unforgiving for your health bar being so small. Even the Asylum Demon was easier, if you had the right items and enough chutzpah.

Gyoubu Oniwa from sekiro is the best first boss in any video game I've played yet. He's tough as hell when you aren't used to the game yet, and the setting and music are so fantastic that they make the game's first boss feel like another game's final one. Absolutely deserves a spot in my eyes.

The deathclaw from fallout 4 in concord or Lexington I can't remember which. Not really a boss but holy hell that thing did not want to die.

It doesn't help that they give you a mini-gun. Thanks to the deathclaw's armor it does a piddling amount of damage. If you wasted any ammo on the raiders you'll end up finishing the fight with your 10mm from the vault...that has a better base damage so its much more effective.

The only time I've ever had an easy fight with that thing was when the game glitched and the deathclaw got stuck in a wall. I still stayed well back and just unloaded with the minigun.

What annoys me the most about Deathstroke is that you Bat-Fist him in the face about 300 times, and all it does for most of that is make him angry. It has been firmly established that a single application of Bat-Knuckle can level most people, so what is his head made out of? He even loses his helmet and suffers no apparent loss of protection. Is it just a mask?

For him yes its mainly for psychological factor and a gas mask, deathstroke has enhanced endurance, strength, speed and reflexes due to a super soldier serum he was experimented on with

Yeah Deathstroke isn't an ordinary Human, and despite being strong enough to give Croc a run for his money he doesn't rely on his strength to win. Also his healing factor is only half as good as Wolverine's... only half... Still makes him stupidly hard to kill.

Yeah, he's the reason I stop playing Dark Souls 3 and decided that the Souls Series, just wasn't for me. I tried that boss about 8 - 10 times with 5 different characters. I didn't even get him down to his second form, I knew I sucked at video games, but that boss reminded me, that Dark Souls is for Gamers, and I'm a scrub!

I usually cheesed the Butcher whenever I got his quest(not guaranteed). You see, if you have a bow and arrows, there's a fairly common room set that has a door surrounded by bars instead of solid walls. Since he's incapable of opening doors, he'll mill about trying to reach you, darting in and out of view when he's in front of the door, but otherwise a sitting duck for you to plink away at until he dies.

I was hoping someone would say this. At least you could block Gundyr and learn his attacks - Vanguard just kills you in 1-2 hits. There’s no space to move around in its boss room either, so if you get into a bad position you’re dead - better luck with your next character.

To be honest, in immortals Fenyx Rising when i first talked to Aphrodite (who is a tree) i had to fight Achilles's shade, which was extremely tough to even survive. Not sure if you fight a different shade depending on which god you find first, but it's basically the game's way of showing the Typhon's Wrath mechanic, which is the name for Typhon wanting to eff you up when you're casually strolling to your next objective, but he's too lazy to come do it himself so he sends one of his corrupted Greek heroes to do it.

Star Wars Shadows of the Empire! The very first Boss you have to fight (on foot) is a freaking Chicken Walker! It has Laser Canons that will take you out in 2 or 3 hits and all you have to fight with is a hand blaster and, if you're lucky, a dozen seeker missiles at most.

Well, where is Captain Flynt from Borderlands 2? Not only his arena hasn't any barriers to keep you from falling down(and then having to climb all the way up again), he has even random immortality moments when you can shoot at him basically everything and you do no damage, and he can even put the entire arena on fire. Man, not even Handsome Jack is this difficult to beat and he is the almost final boss! (I know that before there are Boom and Bewm but... I've always tought of them as mini bosses before Flynt)

Boom Bewm are mini bosses, no red health bar. I breezed through Flynt for the first time ever after MULTIPLE playthroughs of the game just recently and that's only because I was over leveled. Typically I cheese him by jumping off his ship and taking pot shots with a sniper rifle.

The Blood Golem in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Up until this point you've probably fought a Sabbat shovelhead or two in the tutorial, and maybe (if you haven't talked your way around them) a few human gang members. Then suddenly you've unexpectedly summoned a blood golem that deals aggravated damage and moves so fast he practically teleports around the small room you're trapped in. Worst of all, you'd think you could treat a walking pile of blood like a juice box, but nooo, you can't feed from it at all. I gave that art gallery zero stars on Yelp.

all you needed was a bow and a section of grated wall that he couldn't path around, then you just picked him off. Leoric, on the other hand.......ugh....and technically the Butcher wasn't guaranteed to be your first boss as the game used a randomizing algorithm to make each playthrough unique.

Actually I cheesed it by playing ring around the table. AIs in Diablo games get confused rather easily when it comes to choosing a path around things. And this guy's attacks have no range. also, D1 and D2 went pretty deep in the horror aspects. His.. workshop is one of the more gruesome things, but there's a long list of contenders for the title of "most gruesome".

I remember that i did him easly as a mage with ranged spells and running. Not that hard. Non of the bosses in both D1 and D2 were super hard just blast them from range (and use minions to help if you play a necro in D2). Still i never liked to play melee characters so that may have helped me too. Btw if you like frustrating bosses in a Diablo-like game then Path of exile endgame maps are for you :)

Do you know what i want to see on outside xtra? The Nintendo labo vehicle kit and as it's almost Halloween, some kind of horror game like visage. That's what Luke and Ellen do. They take something cute and kid friendly like Nintendo labo and make it really dark. (Remember that episode of sotw with super Mario on the switch and Ellen randomly started talking about the pitfalls of buying friendships? ) Conversely, an 18+ horror will be made to seem silly as hell.

It took me probably 4 hours spread out over a week to beat Iudex Gundyr the first time I faced him. My second time (restarted since my save files didn't transfer when I installed the game on my desktop) took me about an hour's worth of attempts. The 3rd time (played it on my PS5 now) took me 4 or 5 attempts since I'd finally figured him out. It was ridiculous. That said, phase 1 was far more difficult than phase 2 for me. In all my many, many attempts, I never had to deal with phase 2 for very long. His attacks don't cause as much damage up close, so I would just stay in and go to town on him. The same tactic works for Gascoigne as well. The Cleric Beast was just 4 attempts and Gascoigne took just the first attempt to kill, by comparison.

All the Zentraedi bosses were hard as nails. The regular battlepods and fighters were jokes by comparison. Didn't help that the Defense Force almost never sent any wingmen to lend a hand. Man, now I'm nostalgic for that game, but it had some issues. I'd love to see an updated version.

Robert Harris after you learn his moves you get multiple hits off before another, and he is very predictable and easy to parry compared to the later bosses. And nothing will have the range of the undead giant’s ball and chain

Y'all, the point is that it's a first boss. Of course the player doesn't have all the skills like stamina management and dodge-rolling down. Darks Souls takes a lot of time and dedication to master. At that point in the game all you've faced are the relatively docile hollows in the Cemetery of Ash. Further, unlike other bosses in the game you don't have a lot of options to re-spec your weapons and Strats if your run isn't going well. Your only choice is to start fresh. Of course, a veteran of the other games may get him on their first go or after a few, because they know that strafing tends to work well on knight-type enemies & how to time dodge-rolls. But for a player new to Souls-Likes, Gundyr is utterly brutal.

Not technically a boss, but I feel compelled to add: Fallout: New Vegas. Headed north from the starting town, directly towards Vegas, and ran smack-dab into a Deathclaw -- at about Level 3 or so. ...Went *about* as well as you'd expect.

Did u go straight to the quarry? That's like the hardest area in the game. It's got mines and deathclaws everywhere. If u hit one like 5 more show up. Then if u decide to explore, like 8 more show up. It's so brutal

Yeah, the Deathclaws in NV are notoriously more difficult than in 3 or 4. I always avoid them if I can. Which sucks because there are a couple quests that force you to go into Quarry Junction. Thank God for Lily and stealth boys.
