If you find yourself using your mouse so often that you feel you might need a trackball, then maybe you should invest some time in learning your IDE’s keyboard shortcuts

Best purchase second monitor, and to code actually fast u need low travel key distance. Notebook keys ideal

I considered a second monitor, but now I think maybe a separate laptop would be better. I am not working now. Only studying web dev. Into Git & Github now. I need a job though while I study. I'm not a young college student. Most likely I will work remotely and I use my main desktop for everything from banking to storing photos bla bla. Typical user stuff. What's your opinion?

An Ergo keyboard is a must. You need a keyboard that keeps your wrist straight and at the correct handle and height. I recommend the Microsoft Sculpt. I also agree with you that the trackball mouse is best to reduce wrist strain. If I could find an Ergonomic + Mechanical keyboard combo I would be in heaven.

Reddragon has a low profile mechanical tkl with dedicated media keys and a wheel for sound or whatever you wish. Dope af. With the reds you write insanely fast and accurate. At least for my experience. I don’t like to have to go all the way down in order to have the press marked, like the browns.

My tip for the wrist pain is to use the mouse on the "other" hand, it works well for me. It's kinda weird at beginning but it's great to build new neuron connections 😅

Do invest in a good monitor. A crappy keyboard or some random mouse won't stop you, but your eyes will. I consider the monitor the most important part.

mouse: useless, unless you use a floating window manager, which is stupid for programming... install i3... kb: go with a 40% olkb, also split is nice, but a bit hard with the controller... because you need 2... working out: do pushups while compiling... you get about 45 pushups per miunute, some projects take 5min and more to compile... so... 225 pushups every h... thats not bad...
