You give very good advice in this video. I am slowly working on changing my life. I started on September 13th. I started intermittent fasting, walking, and loosely tracking calories. I've lost 26.6 lbs in just over 3 months! This by itself is life changing. I still have a long way to go, but I feel so much better. It's amazing the difference it has made. Seeing how much success I've had with that goal, I've used the momentum to truly begin to get serious about my writing. I completed NaNoWriMo and wrote 50K words in a month, and I'm now working on finishing that book and another book that I wrote a few years ago. Coming off of the rigorous pace that NaNo is and with Christmas and family time, I'm keeping my December word count goal fairly low. I can always write more if I find the time, but like you said, setting the bar low gives you confidence when you achieve small goals! It's making such a difference. I'm making progress on my book every day little by little, and I won't be surprised if I have a finished draft by January, and I'm on track to be down another 4 lbs or so by January as well :)

@@bgholmq Thank you so much! I appreciate the support. I think we all need to be kinder to ourselves and remember it isn't about perfection, but about progress. I have days where I over eat and days where I don't write, but I have far more days that I DO write and that I DO make healthy choices. In the past my all or nothing attitude sabotaged me. I'm learning it doesn't have to be that way. If we have a bad week, just start again! Every day is a chance for a fresh start. I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year

Setting the bar lower. Do it all the time. I often want lofty goals but then get discouraged when I don't achieve them. So sometimes I start a smaller goal because I'm not always sure that time is on my side.

The idea to take about 3 months to figure out a productivity method that will work for you specifically really resonated with me. I’ve been looking up videos to learn about as many methods as humanly possible, even unconventional. A lot of videos focus more on productivity for learning/studying (examples are like flashcards and highlighting) which aren’t super helpful. Idk if I’m just the least motivated human alive but I’d really love to learn about more methods. Is there a book, channel, course on Skillshare or anything you recommend?

How do I get motivated to reading books? I have lists upon lists of books I want to read, stacks of books at home, but either get distracted, unmotivated, too depressed, and wanting to numb my reality by binge watching KZbin(albeit helpful videos of course). I used to be a bookworm as a child/teen, but now it's hard.

Read every day in bed before you turn off the lights. I've been doing this for 3 years now, haven't missed a single day and it's helped me fly through my TBR (even though I'm a slow reader). Sometimes it's a chapter, sometimes it's more, sometimes it's just 3 sentences. But no matter how late it is and how little you manage to read: read! Like I said, even if it is just a few sentences, you will close your eyes knowing that you did what you set out to do. And that will give you the confidence to keep going. And over time it will become a habit. I now can't go to sleep without opening a book. Also: non-fiction as audiobooks!

Whenever you buy or get a book, does the description make you go OMGOMG YES or okay this is interesting. If your reaction is the latter, don’t buy it. If it’s the former, buy it and make a small goal of ten pages a day. That’s what I did when I was in a reading stump and it helped me get back into books. Try to read books you used to read as a child/teen, it will reignite your love books just as your inner child did. It will be a great experience for you both
@loladexploradora55673 жыл бұрын
It’s okay to go back to basis! Also try to write down on a sticky note why you want to get back into reading. If you have a purpose and lose motivation, read it and remind yourself why it is important for you to read. Good luck!!
@VMR86483 жыл бұрын
@Elizabeth - I have actually been planning to read before bed(it is the best time for me) but sometimes way too sleepy and going to be late lately because of work keeps me from doing this. But I will still give it a try and make myself find the time! I love your suggestions! I think I just set goals too high for me, and think to myself "if I can't get 10 pages in or 2 chapters in tonight, why even bother?" But even a few paragraphs counts! Thanks!!
@VMR86483 жыл бұрын
@Lola - Thanks! That's interesting that you mention reading my favorite kids books! I have been considering doing that for a while, just as a nostalgic thing. I like that idea!!
