These are all great ideas! Crowdfunding is definitely becoming more and more popular. Personally I took the route of getting a full-time job and started doing game development as a hobby about eight months ago now. I give real credit to those who go full-time Indie, but I don't think I could take that amount of stress as handling just the game side of things is really tough as it is. Programming, modeling, marketing, story, level design, animation, etc. is a lot, not to mention any kind of personal or family bills/expenses. Anyway, these tips can really help fund and promote your game at the same time. Thanks!

When giving out an early demo of a game, I fear that someone with more skill will take my idea and market it as their own

What if you only released the demo once you were far enough in development? That way, you have enough of a head start to finish your game before other people can finish and release their rip-off.

That's one of the scariest feelings ever since I've been developing games
@badgamedevreacts38554 жыл бұрын
That is one of two of my fears, the other being that the demo would make someone no longer be interested in my game, think about the new Avengers game, there are so many people who are pulling back their pre-order, even if they make the game a lot better it still taints the first impression in my eyes.

Crowdfunding has turned into a real pain in the ass for genuine developers thanks to numerous P.O.S developers in the past who made crappy campaigns with many false promises that never deliver, turning over ambitious midway, deadlines being extended to years , and when the product that is finally out, it is nowhere as good as what was promised in the pitch. This douchey practice has increased the skepticism of the entire community. Now , the gaming community is very generous , as well as patient if it means that they will get a great game , provided you don't take them for granted, Periodic updates and minimizing extensions should always be a priority. If you keep a "hey thanks for your money, I'll see you when its done, lol bye!" sorta attitude, your company is most probably going to get a lot of hate and that could in turn affect the game.

Best way is to have a job, or better yet, a career. I am been working on modelling/animation/texturing etc and I do it for 3-4 hours a day before work. I can easily use my own disposable income to pay for whatever I want. Sure it going to take 3-5 years to make a game, but I will finish with the game I intend, not something rushed out because they cut my power and I am starving to death.

Indie Fund seems stupid and unfair especially if you have a solid project at hand. They want to to payback the initial investment and suck you dry for 2 years? lol It would be less draining to team up with a decent publisher then to ask for funds from these guys.
@screenapple16602 жыл бұрын
Not a good idea to rise a fund for indie game... More people, haters, narcissistic, and spoiled will start throwing more money to ruined your game. Or I want to ruined your great game design. But you get sue for not releasing a long wait game for rising higher funds. You will also make million in first game. Not worth it. For example, cyberpunk 2077, Star Citizens. They failed.... The secret of success is... You keep quiet. Don't ask for funds. Don't show. Don't tell before E3 release.
