Stephanie Marie idk if this is anything but when I apply any serums or lotions on my face I try to use the back of my knuckles or hands. It kinda gives my face a massage that circulates bloods. I also always apply in an upward and outward motion. I figure gravity is always tugging my skin down si I might as well give it some resistance. Lol. Also I apply a soft highlight to the deeper folds of my face. Linked the laugh lines and the indentations that appear under our eye and next to our nose due to sagging skin. That way the shadow isn’t so obvious. Thank you for saying it’s ok to wear shimmer. Ive always been told I can’t use that after 40.

Stephanie Marie OH MY GAWSH!i forgot’. Also, I bought those little jars they sell for travel and I mix sugar, olive oil and honey in it. I exfoliate my lips in the morning with it. But if I really don’t wNt to take the time I just use my toothbrush in the morning. 🙈🙊😜

I actually learned something just recently, and it worked great! My eyebrow pomade had dried out until I decided to put the smallest amount of fractionated coconut oil. I let it set for a day, and now it's like brand new again! 😊😊😊

I went to a Mac counter not so long ago. While looking at eyeshadows, a young employee carelessly said to me that I did NOT want to look at any of the shimmers at my age. Well, I did. I have somewhat pigmented, deep set eyes, and I think shimmer on my eyelids helps my eyelids show more and my eye looks better. I make my own decisions about what I think looks good on me and fits my particular style!

I’m living with a disability too! And I lost myself the first 10 years to it. Well I found myself and really enjoy self care. And am still trying to learn my make up. It’s true, my eyes open up and look more youthful with s shimmer on my lids. I should quit fighting it and do it every time!

Nancy Moon-Rush Agreed-I’m 58 and started wearing more makeup due to a disability from an life-changing assault by a violent student in my Special Education classroom. I have chronic pain and severe orthopaedic difficulties, so it is much harder to do makeup, now. Someone gave me a consult and I realized less is more, even though I have areas to cover because I’m having sleep disruption due to pain and fatigue. As well, due to not being able to do personal tasks each day, like washing my face even once per day, I developed a concentrated amount of milia under my eyes. These milia created very dark circles under my eyes and it was nearly impossible to cover them with correctors and concealers. The concentration of so many milia right under both eyes created deep shadows. Once they were removed, it is not as dark anymore. It has the regular amount of darkness from not getting uninterrupted sleep. Now, I’m really trying to wash my face twice a day-as my family doctor recommended. It’s still difficult and many days, I am not able to complete this task once, let alone twice.

Jennifer Myatt I’m almost 39 and I still love shimmer and glitter too. If you do it the right way it’s really beautiful. It’s like anything else really, if you overdo it it’s going to look trashy. I think that for women of any age not just women nearing or over 40..

I have been hearing for years that older women are “supposed” to avoid shimmery eye shadow😥, but even at 62 I love my shimmers! I do prefer brown, gray and navy eye liners, but the wrinkly skin on the edges of my eyes make it tough to do any kind of wing. But I keep practicing!😄
@nevertooold64986 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie, Yes, the basic rule told to us after a certain age is to not use shimmery shadows. I think that is a throw-back to years ago when shimmery shadows were those harsh frosted shadows from the 60s & 70s (maybe even 80s & 90s, too?)-we were also warned not to use frosted shadows in photos because of the flashback you could get, and it was awful, and aging for older eyes. I am 57 and I use satin and shimmer on my lids all the time and it is not aging (as far as I can tell), the formulas are so different now; I really believe that's where this rule comes from. Thanks for the video and tips! Take care, Ginny 😘😘😘

After I turned 40, I started looking for advice on how to modify my makeup to not look older. All I heard at the time was to avoid shimmer and I felt so blah applying it. So glad I've learned so much over the past year. Shimmer and I are best friends!

I've heard it time and time again, if your over 35 or so, a neutral looks is more flattering and go for matt shades..I love bold colours and shimmers..makeup should be fun and make you feel good! I do play with the shape of my eyes though..I often forget to curl my lashes, but I wear falsies anyway, so I don't think it matters a lot😅😅
@lovemyrainydays6 жыл бұрын
I hate, loathe, despise that "wear neutrals" advice. It's only flattering if those shades actually suit you. I'm very cool toned & quite pale, and it doesn't take much for a neutral to skew very warm on me (plus a heck of a lot of so-called neutrals these days ARE warm)... warm colours just don't flatter me at all - and just make me look old and ill - not a good combo.
@NikkiRaven6 жыл бұрын

Great tips! I agree wholeheartedly about no foundation under the eyes. Less is more over 35. Less foundation, less concealer, less powder. Only thing we need more of is skincare 😂 I feel like once I hit 35, skincare became more important to me than makeup. Really enjoyed this video. Your channel is so helpful since most of the younger YT’rs don’t yet know our challenges. And yes- I’ve definitely read many articles saying no shimmer after 35. But I find it flattering and youthful when applied correctly on the lid. Sometimes the entire lid, sometimes just the inner third.

Great video! I like to use a super small fluffy angle brush(I use a$1 elf brush) and wet n wild brûlée eyeshadow to brighten the outer corner of eyes and the inner corner of eyes and under my eye bags. All of your points were spot-on! I’m a makeup addict, but as I’ve aged I’ve come to better understand the saying, “less is more”. No IG brows, heavy triangle concealer or harsh lines of any kind. Personally, I prefer matte eye shadows, but only because I can work with them to better define and sculpt my eyes without looking overdone. That’s not to say I don’t use and or love a beautiful sheen for added dimension, but I find mattes easier to work with and prefer a more neutral, smokey-ish eye. Loving your lip combo! 😘

Great, fun video! I go a step further with the foundation. I really don't wear it, usually - 95% of the time. I put a dab of concealer on and spot conceal. My skin looks so much better without the foundation catching in lines. I put a little concealer under the eye and the outer corner, like you said. I swipe that up, to help lift the eye. i do a little baby wing to make my eyes appear uplifted. And, most importantly, SMILE! It will make your eyes twinkle if you are sincere and you will look younger!

Your so right about Exfoliating & Primers.....skin prep is a game changer in the way makeup applies and wears. A good skincare routine, in general will make a world of difference ... I think shimmers add light & dimension, when used correctly ...the same way mattes frame the eye and add shadows and depth .... I’ll never be too old for shimmers or colorful shadows!

One thing I do if I want to look “extra” or if I have that tired red eyes look is to use a nude or white waterproof eyeliner just outside my waterline but before my dark liner. It makes the eyes look refreshed and larger. Also if you have problems with texture, cream formulas are so much more flattering! I could never wear highlighter until I tried liquid/cream types, they are simply amazing. The powder types catch and emphasize all the bad things and are so aging :( Stila heaven’s hue and Becca shimmering skin perfector liquid are great. Also if you’re like me and aren’t into false lashes but want them to look long and voluminous, those mascara primers really do work. The trick is to 1- use very little and b- give it a few minutes to dry. So I use the primer and then do my highlight or brows and then finish w mascara. L’Oréal voluminous primer has been good to me.

I am 62 years young & recently retired. I am new to makeup & skincare. I I recently purchased products from Charlotte Tilbury , Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley and many more. My next step is to have someone help me find a foundation that works for my dry skin and won’t settle into the fine lines, creases etc.and of course a colour match. I have no idea what the undertone colour of my skin is I had a tan in the summer that is now fading. I find the foundation part of the entire skin regime to be the most difficult for me. I am especially enjoying taking care of my face morning and night and watching tutorials on how to apply make up. The first KZbin videos I watched were people in their 20s or 30s and holy smokes do they ever wear bright colours LOL. I’m so glad to have found you Stephanie Marie! 👍😃🇨🇦

Yes, you are right - for a while I stayed away from shimmer on my lids (I am 47), because that is what I thought was "the rule". Well, I stopped following that rule and love shimmer on the lid and use it almost every day.
@CrankyGrandma6 жыл бұрын
I’ve only recently discovered shimmers, especially liquid shadows. They work wonders on my 58 year old eyes. I had avoided them because of that “rule” but I found buttery shimmers as in two faced natural palette or something like the LOC liquid shimmers look fantastic and brighten the old eyes. Much less aging than mattes. The shimmers reflect light and thus correct a lot of bad texture. Mattes and powdery shadows accentuate the crepey parts, but shimmers work well. I also agree about liners, and I’d extend that to mascara. Browns work better on me than black. But a bright lip really brightens old skin. It might depend on tone but as you get ashy with age, brighter lips are a plus

Great video - you always come up with good content 🌷 For me personally (am 51), just using a lighter hand in general with makeup application has made all the difference. I think we all know when something looks good or bad - a few years ago I was determined to try the winged eyeliner look, to truthfully realize it was so ageing looking. At the end of the day though, this is your life and do whatever makes your heart sing. Have a lovely day all 💕

Age 47 here, I used to avoid shimmer on my eyes like the plague because I got that memo as well. I now wear shimmer on my eyes all the time, I feel like when I do a single color lid blended into the crease I look younger than when I pile on multiple colors. Cream shadows are my favorite at the moment, they're so easy to apply and the shimmer is gorgeous. I've always had good skin and never really needed foundation, but I agree with you that a tiny bit of primer can make natural skin look more polished--even without any foundation on top. I love the Tatcha silk canvas and I just use it in the center areas of my face. It also works great as a shadow primer. Do you have a tutorial on how you blend out colorful liners on the upper lid? You had on the aqua liner the other day in your Sephora sale video and I love how fresh that looked! And a similar liner may or may not have ended up in my cart. :)

I have had to adjust my style of the way I wear my eye shadow as well as all of my make up. But always do what compliments you it is your face unique to you. Never be afraid to be you. Flats shades make my eyes disappear. Shimmer make my eyes pop and in a good way. Be you!

Whoop whoop 🙌 Yay for shimmery shadow! I'm 35, and I do matte looks sometimes, but always feel my eyes look best with a shimmery shadow. I love makeup trends, but I also stay true to what I like on myself, so most days it's just a slap on of the very underrated Cover Girl eyeshadow single in Mink. So pretty and I get so many compliments on it.

Great tips as always Stephanie!! Always enjoy the way you relay information and your videos. I am 41 and still love using shimmer or slight metallic shadows on my lids to make my eyes pop and open. I find it’s all in how I prep my skin to begin with as to how the shadows and formulas lay on my skin. Ive had to change everything as I approached forty and started to notice things weren’t applying like they used to. Watching amazing artists like yourself and Elle Leary have given me the most amazing advice for my maturing skin. Other than my constant battle with hormonal acne my skin has never looked better. And even the changes I’ve made from the things I’ve learned from both of your channels are helping me to fight it so much better. Thank you! Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great tips! My first job in the beauty industry was as a consultant for Elizabeth Arden so many of my clients had mature skin. I had to learn these types of tips fast! And my #1 tip is always always curl your lashes! You are so right- it just opens the eyes! I curl mine daily whether or not I have on a stitch of makeup! 😘

If I do any liner at all, I use my outer corner color as my liner with a flat brush. It's subtle but adds a little something. I find that less is definitely more the older I get.

I’m a new subscriber. I’m thoroughly enjoying your channel. I’m a long time KZbin beauty watcher, but I didn’t realize how watching someone my age and skin type, would mean so much. Thanks for being here! Add I use a shimmer shadow EVERYDAY I’m too oily for highlight, so I “highlight” my eyes👁👁👁👁

These are very helpful tricks & tips. I’m sometimes guilty of not curling my lashes b/c they’re on the long side naturally and don’t stick straight out, but they do look nicer when curled. Also, great tip about brightening the inside corner under the brow. It does look darker & dull without it. I tend to stay away from shimmers for the most part but enjoy wearing the Armani eye tints, especially Gold Copper. 😊

I'm 52 and I always wear a shimmer shadow at least on the inner 3rd or even half of my lid. It opens my up tremendously. I'm also a hugs advocate for lining the upper waterline because I have found that the space under my lashes has become more pronounced.
@samanthagaudet14616 жыл бұрын
Good idea about the upper water line.
@AnastaciaInCleveland6 жыл бұрын
Tight-lining the upper lid is your friend when you are a "certain age"! I'm 54, and I just learned about this a year ago. It makes the lashes look thicker and your eyes more pronounced. I try to avoid lining the lower lid with a dark color, though. I think it makes my eyes look "squinty" and glaring. I use a flesh-toned line there instead. (Wet n Wild has a brow highlighting pencil in just the right shade for people with light to medium skin, and it only costs $5! These two ways of lining the eyes has really upped my eye game! ~Anastacia in Cleveland
@bethhughes4306 жыл бұрын
@@AnastaciaInCleveland me too! I never did my waterline until I say Stephanie or someone over 35 do it. I got up the courage (I don't like things coming towards my eyes) I was sold. It makes a huge difference on me. I used to line the area right beneath my lower lashline and I have had to lighten up on that because it makes me look tired and squinty.
@AnastaciaInCleveland6 жыл бұрын
It's not easy getting the lower lashline lined in a flattering way. It sometimes looks like my makeup is running, LOL! However, I do that because if I don't, my eye makeup looks unbalanced.

Thanks for another great video! I’m 51 and have heard for as long as I can remember to avoid shimmer on the eyes as we age. I’m a rebel I use it but only in a neutral shade. Often I don’t do a lot to my eyes during the work week. I put a little bronzer in my crease and a pop of golden shimmer in the middle of my eye. One of my colleagues that I’ve known for many years told me a couple of years ago you’re one that gets prettier with age and seem to look younger as you get older. It was the best compliment I’ve ever received. I think skin care has come so far, we do get to age gracefully these days. For makeup, I was into my early 40’s before I discovered primer. I believe it’s one of the best things I do for a youthful, smooth look daily. Next, I was mid-40’s when I discovered finishing powder, I use it daily. Lastly, I spray Mac Fix + or a similar product on and let sit a few minutes before I add finishing spray. I rarely if ever touch up during the day and when I do it’s a Q-tip to clean a little around the eyes and freshen up my lipstick. Thanks again Stephanie, you’re rocking it and I appreciate all you offer us.

I have a tan complexion and I find overly nude lip colors just tend to wash me out. So for women of color a bit more color on their lips is more beneficial. For me a mauve-pink is a nice complimentary everyday color. I also do some light color correcting, and I tend to stick to light medium coverage foundation and use concealer/setting powders to build up coverage. As for highlighters I also tend to stick with subtle ones, although don't be afraid of using something a bit blingy for a night out look. I find orange highlighters to give me a nice highlight without over-dueing it. As for eye shadow, I don't follow the rules because I love color, but for the most part my eye shadow decisions is predicated on the situation. Ultimately, I think the most important thing to focus on aging skin is skincare and hydration.

I use a shimmer on my lid every day. I’ve heard not to use them, but I’ve always liked the way it looks on my hooded eyes.💗 I also use bronzer, and sometimes blush, on my crease. I’m working on finding a brown that I like as a liner, but I’m still using my trusty black liquid eyeliner.😂🤣

Brown liners are my favorite cause black looks too harsh. I love plum and purple too. No wing for me. It makes me look like I’m trying too hard.

Samantha Gaudet Brown eyeliners are great. I still wear black here & there but started moving away from it in my early 30s when I fell in love with Clinique’s quick liner in Walnut and their limited edition Black Honey liner. I have green eyes and that is my favorite eyeliner on earth (also my favorite Almost Lipstick shade since the late 80s/early 90s). They need to put it out again, along with the Black Honey mascara. It’s such a beautiful, deep, blackened, brownish-pomegranate color. They unfortunately discontinued Walnut so I’ve moved on to Clove which is a brownish-olive-gray. I still love a wing or flick but nothing excessive.

Thank you for all these tips and tricks. I always hit the base of my upper lashes with a deep plum or a dark red based brown to enhance my green eyes. I always get compliments on how green my eyes look. I love a shimmer/sheen eyeshadow, but I only put it towards the center of my mobile lid, so not to enhance my “happy” lines on the outer part of my eyes.

I used to do makeup years ago and when I would place blush on the cheeks, dust across the forehead, down the nose and on the chin. I called it being “Sun Kissed” bc it’s where the sun ☀️ naturally hits those areas of your face. Always using a very light touch!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this and I just enjoy watching you do your makeup! I'll be trying your blush technique in the morning. 😊 Something that I think is flattering is to lightly buff the crease shade I'm using (or any midtone neutral) under the lower lash line. I can't believe how much bigger and more wide-eyed it makes me look - a subtle but youthful effect.

Finally realized at my age ( ummm over 30 for sure) that I needed to reevaluate how I was doing my makeup. And after watching so many youtube videos, inclusive of yours also, I finally found my look. It revolves around those gorgous armani eye tints, and a transitional shade and some shade of colored pencil eyeliner, brown, purple, teal, or grey. I feel finally.. ever so much better. And yes.. for me.. less is more on the foundation end.

Thanks for these tips. They were really helpful! I loved the bit about the not bringing foundation up to the eye. At 48, I struggled with my under eye concealer looking cakey and I'll be sure to try your tip. Hugs from Australia
