I feel like dating apps have ruined dating. They made it so that we can view every single person if we wanted to. It becomes impossible to ever feel satisfied with anyone if there is a chance the grass is greener out there. But whenever I get on them it's always the same people year after year always looking for the perfect person and never finding it. I think the remaining people will find fault in anyone.

I think one can definitely say that dating apps have ruined dating, but thousands of people are getting married every single day and they met on dating apps. I think there's definitely a way to find quality people whether you're using dating apps or not, but it's more about how you view yourself, are you coming to a date thinking it's going to be another wasted evening or you bring something else instead. Call me naive, but I'll never stop believing in love x

True, they are also designed as profit to keep people single and on them. They are like slot machines. Addictive because you think you’ll eventually get a hit (and sometimes you do) but it’s short-lived, and no substance. Dating apps are good if you just want hookups, or some interesting first date stories. That’s about it. I also agree that I see the same people on them. I first went on them back in 2017 and now in 2022, it’s all the same people and profiles and they are on ALL of them. I’m thinking ‘how are people not giving up after 6+ years on them?’ It goes back to it being addictive!

@thematthewhussey2 жыл бұрын
I just couldn’t disagree with this more. This is like saying there are no secrets to good public speaking, and that all you need to do is be confident. It’s just not true. Or that all you need in conversation is self worth, and there is nothing to learn in life about what good conversation looks like, which is also simply not true. There’s such a thing as skill in life, and it’s relevant to every area of life. To suggest it’s not relevant in dating is to suggest that dating doesn’t follow the same life principles as every other part of life. I’m a better kisser today than when I had my first kiss (thank god-I almost head butted the poor girl who had the unfortunate position of being my first kiss). That has nothing to do with self worth. It has to do with competence. The ultimate combination in life is confidence AND competence, together. And we should remember, confidence itself is often born out of competence. Self worth is utterly essential. I agree with you in this. But the idea that knowing “what” to do is irrelevant in dating is an oversimplification that doesn’t help us improve and get better in practical ways.

How long to look at person and hold your glance (what it means): 1 second = not noticing them. 2 seconds = acknowledging them. 3 seconds = shows you're interested in them! 3 seconds is all that's really needed to communicate to people that you're interested in them - and all the better if you give them a quick smile!! That's all the encouragement a man needs! And holding a look for 3 seconds with a stranger is longer and harder than it seems!! A 5 second look may be construed as a little bit scary or fixated, or that you're studying them. Three seconds communicates that you're showing an interest in them!! Try it!!!

Yes Matthew, it works to join a hiking group or activity you enjoy where you regularly meet face to face, have a good laugh, real time interactions and spend quality time in relaxed settings amongst others as it's easier to see how they interact with others and behave in different settings as well over time. You need a life numero uno. Beware that you'll end up with too many friends and potential partners so learn how to set good boundaries and zone ppl closer or further away from the get go. Work on yourself, develop good comm skills as a healthy, wholesome attitude, lifestyle and personality are essential for both of you. Be personable, show genuine interest, respect and warmth, state your standards, needs and boundaries incidentally as part of normal conversation and actions, ask good quality questions, and take it slow and steady too as it can take 6-12mths to show their true colours sometimes and it's alot easier to get into relationshits than out of them. Treat others as you'd want to be treated or as you'd want to see a treasured family member to be treated persay and give only from your cup's overflow so you don't end up anyone's doormat. Don't underestimate taking a closer look at a friend that's been loyally there for you forever either, it might just take lighting a spark to set things off in a good direction that builds and grows you both. Remember that noone is more important than you so just have fun with it and learn how to lean in or let go with equal ease. 💕👋

Only reason he and I still remember is because he always had the same boots and continues to get them when they are worn through and I really really love them. He also thought it was super cute at the time so every once in a while he will just go like 'Hey babe, do you still remember that one time when you came up to me and said you liked my boots?' (sometimes teasing I don't say that to him anymore to which I'd then respond with 'maybe if you'd buy different boots for once' followed with a hug and or kiss) hahahaha

I have the opposite problem; I'm often alone at the bar or alone in general. I'm not on my phone and actually scanning the room. Unfortunately most people aren't interested in me and mostly interested in their phones or just chatting to their partners. Most of the time, people are already in a couples/groups and oblivious. It's quite difficult to get their attention. I think I do it well if I'm just networking but if I'm socially trying to attract a guy's attention, it fails. Men just don't want women to approach them and a lot of men are in groups so they'd prefer women in groups, not alone. I still want to create opportunities but it's very hard. I actually already do what you have suggested and have met friends through this. Men on the other hand, are difficult! Maybe I'm just boring or unattractive but I get a lot of rejection from approaching people. I usually just move on and keep chatting to different people in a room but still, doesn't mean I don't get mentally exhausted from. I am actually extroverted and thrive on making conversations and meeting new people. But I also get a lot of rejection from that.

It's not you. It's society. I think it's important on many levels for you to understand that. Nice guys, by definition, are polite. As you know, they won't act rude to talk to you. Nice guys, by definition, are not creeps. They are very conscientious about not looking like a creep; not acting like a creep. They definitely don't want to risk being treated like a creep. However, society now labels normal male behavior as "toxic masculinity". What's a nice guy to do? Try to be empathetic to their plight. They DO want to chat with women, but the modern day rules are insulting to them. ** Were you describing a weekend night-life situation where you're alone & hoped to be approached? That will never happen. If you're alone in a bar on the weekend, people will assume that you are waiting for someone. Only a jerk would hit on a woman while she is waiting for a date. After an hour or two, it is obvious you are alone, maybe rejected; maybe emotionally vulnerable. Only a creep would hit on a woman who is emotionally vulnerable. So, if you are in a situation where you want to go out on a Saturday, but don't have friends (i.e. new in town or all your friends just got married) only do things that would be fun if you don't meet anyone at all--all night. Suggestions? Many of us worked tickets a sports/theatre/concerts, etc. Many of these events have both volunteer (less commitment) or side-job (actual commitment). But, all of these things are just for a season...and fun! ** City Parks: The type of park with ponds, dog parks, playgrounds, frisbee golf, etc. A nice guy would never fall in step with a strange woman on an isolated trail in the woods. Frequent the same one routinely. It's not uncommon for a guy to see a girl for days & days before he decides she looks like she won't treat him like a creep if he would say "Nice Day?" ** Modesty? If you go somewhere with water -- beach, water park, lake resort, you'll be more approachable if you put on a t-shirt when you walk around. A nice guy might be aroused by a girl at a distance...but he doesn't want to feel like a creep talking to a barely dressed woman.

I deleted all dating apps at the beginning of this month as I was spending too much time on them and getting nothing in return. Living as I do in a Slavic country, though, getting anyone to even look at you in public without a scowl let alone smile is pretty damned near impossible, so approaching them and establishing that initial connection is quite a challenge here. Maybe I should move ha

So which are the disadvantages of dating apps according to you, Matthew?
@mthayne10002 жыл бұрын
Matt. Alaska seriously needs your help. The isolation mixed with the depressing and deadly eternal winters really make for a disastrous dating scene. I’ve deleted all dating apps and I’m quite open about my lack of desire to openly date around (due to virtually lack in quality of choices in this oligopoly market). I have every intention to find someone compatible and put in the effort for an honest relationship but the more I put myself out there the more I want to hide. Literally hide under unattractive clothes barely showered and with no makeup. The words chum and bait come to mind when I think about going out “looking attractive.” In this past week alone I have been given multiple, unwarranted, offers to provide my company to “men” for a substantial amount of money. If it’s not a financial offer it’s them inviting themselves over for “cuddles” or “massages” or you eventually find out they are married or are “talking to” multiple other women/ your friends. It also makes me uncomfortable that it feels like I’m obligated to continue being nice to a man just because he’s attracted and nice to me. They can confuse this for attraction and then all of a sudden I’m the rude one that has no respect for anyone. I know if I stick to my guns and continue to communicate what it is I want I will eventually find it. But my concern is that this environment of dating will continue to get worse if not consciously and collectively addressed soon. i want to be able to feel safe and comfortable with feeling attractive and it would be nice to k is that my daughters can actually get to known men before having to feel any sense or obligation or fear. Alaskan women deserve better. I have started a podcast called You Don’t say where we will talk about taboo issues in our communities with the goal of healing/resolution; or at the very least to create an open dialogue that will get people taking and thinking again and not just painfully reacting. One of the episodes we will cover will be relationships and dating. I would love to have you on as a guest host to help us maintain a level of understanding and not just being bitter and angry at men lol. I really do think all Alaskans want to be loved but the loneliness, and boredom can easily turn to desperation and a lot of heartbreak. I think the desire for true connection is there but trapped so far beneath rocks coping mechanisms that nobody is quite sure what they want anymore…just acting out and continuing the cycle. I think a local conversation with an identified, large scale professional like yourself could really create a shift in thinking. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment and please feel free to contact me with any questions or input you may have! Thank you for your meaningful work! - Melissa Thayne

So, I'm south of you, in BC. Believe me, it's the same here. As soon as restrictions lift I am going to host a tea dance on a Sunday afternoon, that all ages can attend. I'm in a rural area and there are so many people here who just want someone to have a conversation with. I can't remember the last time there was a community dance. I did go to a community Christmas dinner back in 2019 and the well dressed fellow sitting next to me started going on about his "trapline". Not the one with muskrat pelts either. I don't know what the answer is :(

The novelty wore off of dating sites for me before apps were even a thing. It was so obvious that men just use these to play the numbers and are constantly seeking to put in the least amount of effort while gaining the most amount of gratification for themselves. The results were never worth it. Analog meetings are still the most organic way IMO.

🤣🤣🤣 I loved the monkey move. You did it with such a serious face. Careful monkey doesn't claim injury on duty for falling off the bar stool. On a serious note. I've been subscribed to your channel for a year now, your videos have helped me so much. Also have deleted all dating apps and even Facebook and no Instagram account for a long time now. I'm definitely a more confident happier person, so thank you Mathew 👍

Always smile and you make the day better for the people who see your light. Love health peace and light from a Virgo woman from Denmark 🇩🇰😀

Funny enough, this advice will help me alot too. and I'm a guy XD. I've always been frozen on going up to people and wondering how the hell I'm going to have a full blown conversation with them (which I then dont cuz its too daunting). This two hit theory, and asking for a favour might help me allot with approaching women or well people in general XD. I know this channel is mostly geared towards women, but i feel a lot of this advice can really help allot of us men out there too! I hope to see some more videos from this channel that also can help us on the other side out too!

I liked the tips you mentioned, very simple and probably would make a change, but not in a Mena region, I think, where men always doesn't approach as simple as that, especially that there are some kind of cultural constrains in regards to that. could you please give any tips for that? Thanks Mathew!
