I've bought some Don Maximiano 2018 and La Cumbre 2018 when I had the chance. Opened the Don Maximiano 2 years ago and it wasn't ready yet. Can't wait to try it again in 2030 as this one is built for aging without breaking the bank.

Thank you for the video! I do love Bodega Chacra, cincuenta y dos is also a good bottle to me. Zuccardi is great stuff as well. I got to try a Seña and Bodega Chadwick vertical, but they're weren't my favorite. Looking to try the Mendel and Vik as well.

Hi John, enjoying the Le Petit Clos 2018 and 2020 ) and the Vina Vik ( 2015 ), the Concreto ( 2021 ) I found ok - I have had nicer Malbecs. One other that I keep in the cellar is Baron Philippe De Rothschild Red Blend Baronesa - really enjoy this wine. Thanks for an interesting presentation as it is not easy to learn about some of the South American wines - cheers.

Thanks for the video John. This is definitely a part of the world that interests me - from my own travels and visits, and from the consistent value and cost performance that these wines often bring. That being said, with recent price inflation, I think there is a gap in the market for inexpensive to mid level South American wines in the 30-60 dollar range. I suspect that there is a plethora of such wines sold within each country and regions (many of them indeed below this price point), but I don't find so many of them available internationally. Thanks therefore for the wines that you highlighted, and if you come across any more please continue to let us know.

Thanks, John. Interesting stuff. I have no Chilean nor Argentinian wines in my collection. Why? I used to buy both on a regular basis but mainly at the lower end of the price range. The first reason is that I began seriously building a cellar (my second) about a dozen years ago, which coincided with a run of outstanding vintages in Europe and Europe is my main area of interest. Secondly, most of the wine coming out of Argentina was Malbec, which is not my favourite Bordeaux blend grape (nor is pure Carmenere). Yes, I could spend time and money seeking out excellent examples but I risked disappointment, whereas European wines fitted my knowledge base better and was thus less risky an investment. Thirdly, as when any area becomes fashionable, prices began to rise. I still buy the occasional bottle from our local supermarket (which has an excellent wine section) from time to time. However, now that I have stopped buying en primeur, I would like to buy one or two bottles of £100+ per year, especially from areas I with which I am not familiar. For example, I have just checked the price for Sena, 2016 and I can source it for around £120. I might be digging out some of your previous videos searching for inspiration later in the year. In the meantime, I have various clarets, Rhones, Burgundies, Chiantis, Riojas and even a Corbieres blanc half-case arriving next week from my Wine Society storage. One can only drink so much wine!

Thank you, Steven! Totally understand. So much outstanding wine these days! That is one reason I'm trying to do a variety of videos rather than just wine recommendations every week, but these are always the most popular! Yes, the Sena would be an excellent buy even at a bit of a stretch. It is a brilliant wine! The good news is that now Bordeaux blends are far more popular and many producers are doing an excellent job with Cabernet Franc in particular. Also, most of these wines are enjoyable in their youth as well. Hope your week is going well.
