The dark ceilings and doors are a terrible idea in a small area, light colors would give the effect of more space.

How about roof top patios … I’ve always thought that it maximizes usable space, secure/safe outdoor area and cheaper for maintenance as trades can work safely on flat roof and charge less, even home owner could do it themselves.

@@MauriceDimba I’m also a hobby designer and have designed “high efficiency city homes” (40ftx40ft). All with roof top patios. Water build up is the only design consideration but I’ve designed that into the roof to collect rain water which is built into one of the corners (or all corners) exterior walls. Using regular water pipe built into exterior wall corner (2 foot diameter) to provide garden water ext. can’t see any of the water works except the spout to connect your hose. If patio furniture is secure and the sun tanning family is safe upstairs … you can fall asleep without any concern. You can also have your pets on the patio allowing for overall quality of life.
