Man so hard to choose but definitely being yourself, being authentic, transparent, and vulnerable. I think without that you can’t be consistent or put your audience first. That being said I really put limits around watching other creators in my niche because I thought it would hurt my focus and voice. Now I’m seeing I missed out on a huge connection component to being in the KZbin space. It’s taken me 4 years to realize that. Glad to start forming stronger bonds in my community now.

Initially you don’t have enough of a dataset to go off of to figure out trends and patterns. It’s annoying when the data doesn’t give you the answers on a silver platter but only gives you small hints. 130 videos in and over a year running a channel just now do I have barley enough data to show me trends and know which way to go with more confidently. Just sharing my experience.

Thanks for this message. As a new creator I’m constantly being told I seem “so natural” on camera. And my reply is finally I’m just being me. I get to be myself on KZbin. I don’t have to put on an act or “face”. This is just my personality and character coming out. Man I love this. If I can do this full time, I sure would.

2 things that really resonated with me... 1. not replying to comments. I am def not keeping up with that... especially on videos where i share my story and people share back and I could read the comment like a million times, but never reply. Or just the sheer amount of them coming in. I used to spend about 20 hours a week replying back, and that even didn't matter... it's just so overwhelming. Many people offered that i would hire someone for that, but that just feels wrong. I do have a community outside of KZbin where I am more active on... 2. The beard. Well, I don't have one... But my hair. pink, blue, purple, gradient. I have been wanting to dye my hair black for a while now. In one video I mentioned something about my hair, with a comment of someone liking my content but is disgusted by my hair. Obviously, that is NOT why I wanna color my hair black now, but SOOOO many people commented that they love my hair, I should never change, that I inspired them to color their hair, or even their kids want hair like mine, and... How do you color to black after that ? I honestly felt so weirdly alone in this... so despite of ALL the amazing content and advice I get from you (binging you once a week with a notebook to take notes and plan)- THIS segment about the beard- hit home.

Loved this video. I found your stuff after my channel had begun growing and I started to lean into learning how to harness the momentum and keep it going so I can reliably build things more and more every time I post content. Much of what you're saying I've been doing (professional musician here and many of the principles apply there too so I already had some practice), but it's so helpful to hear these put into perspective in regards to growing a KZbin channel. I hit over a million views within about 4.5 months and went from no one watching to over 38,000 subscribers and it's growing reliably, and your tips are helping me continue that momentum without burning myself out. I know the right places to put pressure and the places to not kill myself over because of your information. Thank you for all you're putting out there. My journey to full time KZbinr is progressing more smoothly and quickly because of your knowledge. Thank you and God bless!

Sean, in reviewing my emails over several years, I found that I actually came into contact with you probably around 2016. I bought VRA in December of 2020, in part to try to get my disabled son interested in KZbin. It didn't work (lol) but I have learned a lot from you and I will 66 years old this April. After my son died in November 2022 from unexpected cerebral strokes, I found myself in a daze, but watching you grow and watching Think Media grow has ministered to me. I want to say that in the last two years it has really been evident how you have grown in your ability to share your faith and spiritual truth and weave it into your podcasts. I've been in ministry as a pastor-teacher for over 40 years. Sometimes I think we've over-spiritualized some of the concepts taught in Scripture as if they don't apply to our present world, but they do. Thank you for sharing what you do. You are doing even more than you realize for the kingdom of God. May God continue to bless you, and your wife, and your children. Hold them all close while you have them near.

Thanks! I love how on this podcast and in VRA you’re always pushing the message that we need to put the people first before money (influence first, income second, impact third). I absolutely can tell when a channel is giving me inauthentic vibes or desperation for sales. I appreciate you for creating a resource that helps content creators grow on KZbin in a way that isn’t focused on going viral. I’ve been very happy with what I’ve learned from the course and your podcast and I’m still only in VRA foundations. I’m taking the slow and steady route and know that will serve me and my community better in the long run!

When I was younger I was a huge fan of a particular 80’s hair band. I bought every single album etc. I would have given anything to meet them. Fast forward many years later and I had the chance to meet them. I asked the drummer for his autograph and he told me no, but then turned to the girl next to me in the very low cut shirt, took the sharpie out of her hand and signed her chest. He never heard her ask me what his name was. She didn’t even know who he was. Anyway. I think about that all the time with my channel. I may not be a famous rockstar star, but my subs make my channel. Without them I’m nothing.

One of the things that I'm always sort of confused on is checking analytics on a video podcast. I started a podcast talking with voice actors from video games and usually they would get a lot less average view duration as compared to the length of the video. So should someone be concerned about the analytics especially watch time.

What do you do when your community and your analytics clash? For example, your community say they want you to do a specific series or cover a specific topic, but the analytics on that series/topic say that it's not a good fit for the channel? That's what I've found with my current Let's Play series - my community voted for it, but it's not getting hardly any views compared to my tutorials, guides, and news vids.

I love your content, it's already taught me a lot in my research to get my channel set up.... this video kind of set me on edge. Especially in the beginning. I'm not sure I can 100% pinpoint it, but it felt like so much of it was scripted and being read off a page, especially the first third of the video or so. But this also equally has taught me a lesson in making sure how I come across on camera is important at all times as well.

This was a great video! Very informative in an easy way to digest! I’m a new KZbinr but I was luckier than most and have to say I was doing half the things you said and it is what helped me get to where I am now but the other half you said I am now going to implement and I feel confident it will help even more I really appreciate the amazing information! I hope people really watch this 2 or 3 times because you hit the nail on the head!

Well done Sir! Literally cannot afford to buy into course, as is said here, cannot pay the "Vig." However, I do use your videos as a training platform. As you may know from "The Millionaire Next Door" and other such books, emulating a person or business who is succeeding allows one to stand on the shoulders of others. What you have in your play list is Creator College for free! I thank you for that. Been in Vegas for over 50 years as an adult. Hope to see you around one day.
