The thing is that being a KZbinr is like a business, and some creators know that pretty well. So if you want constant growth, views and subs, you need to give people what they want. Same like businessman offers products people need. Tough part could be starting your channel, and honestly for me the most helpful thing was that I found out about Famester which really helped to kick start my channel. The great thing is that it also works for every other social media, so I am not only tied to KZbin.

I think my biggest take away was that this is less about algorithm manipulation and more about viewer behavior. The other big takeaway is that with the option to see analytics, you can take the guess work out of viewer opinions. You can see where they watched! And choose to do more of that or not. Very helpful for the personality types that triple guess everything. I think my mind goes to “Who has the audience that I want?” And when can I time block to do that research for greater effectiveness with my content. Very helpful. Thank you so much, guys!

Great interview and I can’t wait for the second video. It’s good to hear from someone who works for KZbin. I’d like to go back through my old videos and make them podcasts but it’s time consuming and tedious to remake all the thumbnails. I hope in the future KZbin makes a way to streamline that. For now, I have to concentrate more on new content than old content.

The algorithm is not people, there is a pretty big distinction there. "It's not that the algorithm didn't like my video, it s that the audience didn't like my video", is such a cop out. No one thinks the algorithm didn't like the video, it is that the algorithm didn't share the video with the appropriate audience, that is why the audience did not click on it. Think about how many times you have been fed videos you did not want to click on? Even after you had do not show me this video a million times for any particular creator you don't want to watch, KZbin will still continues to show you that creator's videos. Of course those are big creators, but the algorithm should know by now my taste in videos, but it still tries to shove those videos down my throat. So the algorithm certainly has no problem showing big creator's videos to everyone, just not small creator's videos, therefore I think the algorithm certainly has something to do with videos making it big or not, it is not just simply the audience.
@yep.fishing

I trust the algorithm....if you are failing then the title and thumbnail isnt as clickable initially, then the video doesnt create the interactions and retention.

Great episode Sean, Thank you, I am a huge fan of your channel and greatly value the time and energy you and your team put into these videos. As a new creator they have been invaluable. I would love to see a video dedicated to new creators within a smaller sized niche but still a fairly large level of competition on the longer format interview style videos, how to get more views and also optimum duration for interviews? I am seeing some channels do consistent 2-3hour interviews, how do they maintain audience retention that long, their view count is super high, and everyone's thumbnails, guests and topics are starting to look the same. Do you have any suggestions for new creators in this space?

For feed back as a user. Rene is correct on most topics. Time and attention is very important. In what I chose to watch when. But I like diy, non fiction type topics. I have no idea how to find a link from a short. So if one is interesting I can't follow it. Some topics all I want is sort, concise and quick, others I love long ones because I'm new to that topic or it's complicated and need lots of information to understand the fundamentals. Not realy watching for fiction or just entertaining though. I like a long one puting all the elements together and shorter ones for more detail on each element if needed. Some times ill speed up the playback just to get to the parts I need other times even though long watching the whole process means I can replay a section not explained but shown. Links in the middle of videos is confusing for me I want to jump straight away but need what I'm watching too. I don't know how to easily go back to find it but if I click on it I've left the one I'm watching with out finishing it. Not sure what that dose to your results. I watch between 1am and 6am because of my down load allowance. Not sure if this is why Google thinks I'm American when I'm Australian. But i often fall asleep while watching. In the past it would keep playing what it was pushing and by the time I'd wake up it would be playing somthing I'd never chose to watch myself. Now it seems to have turned off and let me sleep not shure how but means it's playing less I'm not selecting. I tend to save to watch later if I want to be more awake, it's a longer one I don't have time for or it's a topic I'm very interested in but need other information more at that time. Also suggestions used to disappear so I couldn't go back and watch second choice after first because they'd be new suggestions. That's not happening as much now which is good. Seasonally plants and animals etc would be more seasonal. For example when learning how to hatch chick's from American youtubes not Australian ones it's autom in my spring. Same for plants etc. Even bush crafts etc. Others are more relevant to our time in history.for example covid 19 and global warming even understanding more upto date theories on planetary systems may become important to understanding sun flares and tectonic plates functions. I found a great Dr whose kept me informed during the pandemic but one on autopsy I was enjoying wasn't as important during that time but helps understand the body and health as a hole. But now the pandemic is subsiding I'm more worried about preparing for the hot dry or flooded summer ahead. I've had ones start to play and while I'm subscribed and interested I'm actually surching for something else at the time so stop watching very soon after its started to play. It's very frustrating if I need information immediately in prime down load time and I'm seeing things I'm not looking for right then. But this seems to afect you. I guess I'm not looking for an hour or three long video in these instances. I've watched a lot of background ones and am now physically doing or using it and have got to somthing I'm missing and just need quickly. I find new topics are not good to surch for immediately. I almost have to surch twice. The first time i get useless stuff or nothing on the topic. But a couple of days later the topic will start to show up in sugested feeds. Very frustrating if the information is urgent. Which makes shorts faily redundant for me. So don't use youtube for that even google is getting bad in this instance. In fact I can't even shop on google any more because it's pushing adds for other things I'm not looking for even though it sells what I am looking for😵‍💫. I'm not usually looking to buy products on youtube but love links to shops for specific unusual items because modern surch engines won't let you find them. For example you can't buy chicken saddles any more on line because there not in pet shops or agricultural stores so no advertising thus no access to buy any more. Same for green products leading edge things not in main stream. Off grid items are getting more popular now but weren't when I first started looking. I still can't find a mobile hydro driven pump with lots of head I know will work. Face book is starting to fill that space. But things people in other countries use in there way of life especially nomadic like tent stoves I don't know what there called or how to buy etc

16:23 I don't see the point why shorts' thumbnails wouldn't be customizable, for example I have a short that is about one video game and my thumbnail is "From" Netflix series, because KZbin algorithm found 2 faces from one image I added on the short while I was speaking about the series. Like thanks KZbin! Maybe have at least 3 automatically selected frame options from which to choose from?
