These commercials aired on CBS and NBC on August 18th, 1979
1. Promo for "The Muppet Show"
2. Burger King
3. Hubba Bubba
4. "The All-New Popeye Hour" Commercial Bumpers
5. Cocoa Krispies
6. Crayola Crayons and Markers (It's weird they even felt the need to advertise. As a kid in the 80's, crayola was ubiquitous, inescapable)
7. "The All-New Popeye Hour" Commercial Bumper
8. Crest (I really love the comic-book styling of these ads)
9. TV Spot for "Star Wars" (This is for the 1979 re-release)
10. "The All-New Popeye Hour" Commercial Bumper
11. "In The News" Intro
12. Hubba Bubba
13. "In The News" (Roller Skating's Olympic hopes. 35 years later and nothing has really changed)
14. Promo for "The New Adventures Of Mighty Mouse & Heckle & Jeckle"
15. Knott's Berry Farm
16. KNXT Station ID
17. "The All-New Popeye Hour" Commercial Bumper
18. SelecTV (Partial)
19. NBC Station IDs
20. McDonald's (This is amazingly epic, though that Grimace costume is terrifying. It makes me wish that McDonald's had made a live-action TV special back then)
21. "Godzilla" Commercial Bumper
22. "Jana Of The Jungle" Commercial Bumper
23. TV Spot for "Star Wars"
24. Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter Cereal (With free Diving Dolphin! IT GOES UP AND DOWN!)
25. Hush Puppies
26. "Jana Of The Jungle" Commercial Bumper
27. "Jonny Quest" Commercial Bumper
28. Bonkers (This jingle is sort of driving me insane)
29. Cracker Jack
30. "Jonny Quest" Commercial Bumper

I love Hubba Bubba bubble gum because it didn't stick to my glasses. Alot of what is on this video I remember. I did like growing up in the 1970's and being a teenager during the 70's too.

I remember those "In the News" newsbreaks, and the electronic music at the beginning and end. Considering that ice skating has been one of the most popular Winter Olympics sports for many years, I find it a bit surprising that roller skating hasn't made it into the Summer Olympics.

Wow; what a blast from the past! I was 8 years old when these commercial aired and was an avid watcher of Saturday morning cartoons. Popeye, Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle--I watched all those shows religiously back in the day. I don't remember "Jana of the Jungle" or "Jonny Quest", though.

The 70's and 80's were prime for Saturday morning cartoons and cartoons all together and growing up as a kid and teen during that era was the best time to have seen it all. They also had moral and educational values. Today's it's all rubbish with no moral and educational values and worst showing and teaching kids to tolerate the mean spirit.

If you get Me TV (one of your local stations might carry it on a digital subchannel), I just recently learned that they are bringing back some of the classic cartoons in January. I think they'll be doing a 3-hour Saturday morning block, plus a one-hour hosted weekday morning program.

"In the news" was also used as a reference in schools. My elementary school library (grades K-3) were sent many for these episodes, especially the ones that dealt with government/civics. "in the News" did just taht, there are some very interesting snippets out there, not just this..it had variety and it was for kids. Anyhooo--us little students could go in and see these episodes and they helped us with homework, essays, papers we were doing. Always cited out references .Today, kids can just go to wiki or google for that information.

Curious about the 'Star Wars' commercial trailer. It was released back in May 1977. Was this commercial for a theatrical re-release or was it STILL in theaters in 1979 when these commercials ran because of its crazy, enduring popularity...? I wonder!!! I'm thinking that it may have been advertising another run in theaters because 'The Empire Strikes Back' was released the following year and they were trying to rouse hype for it.

Maybe the description changed; I was thinking it specified August 18, 1979, as the air date for these. That was the first Saturday after I started kindergarten, so I'm sure I was glued to the TV that morning! We only received 2 channels, and one of those wasn't too clear, so I'm sure I was watching the ones here that aired on CBS. Thanks for posting!

I've always assumed the NBC portion was recorded on the same day and the person recording just flipped channels at 7:00. That lines up with the second theatrical re-release of Star Wars on 8/15/1979, which was a limited engagement for only 2 weeks.

@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 9 жыл бұрын
They met briefly in Episode II. According to that Anakin was Owen's stepbrother. Though according to the novelization of "Return of the Jedi" Owen was actually Obi Wan's brother and he and Beru were just foster parents with no relation to Anakin...though the implication was that they knew Anakin before his fall to the dark side. This was all rendered non-canon by the prequels, where Jedi Knights are presented as weird monk-like people who don't have families. I honestly much prefer Owen being Obi-Wan's brother. There's just not enough impetus for him to behave so irrationally towards Obi-Wan in Episode IV.
