These commercials aired on ABC on September 17th, 1978
1. Bubble Yum
2. Peak (Probably the first commercial for antifreeze that I've posted)
3. Holiday Inn
4. Promo for "Three's Company", "Taxi" and "Starsky & Hutch"
5. Honda
6. Hush Puppies
7. McDonald's Big Mac
8. "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" Commercial Bumper
9. Promo for "Monday Night Football"
10. Casual Corner
11. Sharp Calculator
12. KTRK News Bumper
13. "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" Commercial Bumper
14. Omni Magazine (Amazing. I always associate this magazine with "Ghostbusters" because of the fictional cover featuring their proton packs used during the montage scene halfway through the film: i.imgur.com/fB... but it was a great magazine full of awesome artwork and articles. Given all the space they dedicated to features on aliens and the paranormal it doesn't surprise me that it was on Dan Aykroyd's radar)
15. Betty Crocker SuperMoist Cake Mix (Don't you dare talk about my wife's cake!)
16. Lavoris
17. Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray
18. "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" Commercial Bumper
19. Promo for "World News Tonight"
20. Ron's Krispy Fried Chicken (I'm not sure what the random cutaways to a football game have to do with anything, but that old guy in the cowboy hat seems to be enjoying his chicken. EDIT: guy in the cowboy hat here was Bum Phillips, then head coach of the Houston Oilers)
21. Southwestern Bell
22. KTRK Eyewitness News Update (The news about the signing of the Camp David Accord interrupted the "Battlestar Galactica" pilot movie on the east coast, though the rest of the movie was aired following the news break. Since these aired in Texas, I'm not sure if that effected this broadcast or not)
23. "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" Commercial Bumper
24. Fridgidaire
25. Excedrin
26. Miss Clairol Color-Hold
27. Promo for "The Bad News Bears"
28. "The ABC Sunday Night Movie" Commercial Bumper

6:58 - A 10 hour vacation slide show? That's a kind of torture that even the most evil dictators wouldn't dream up.

Bubble Yum- Somehow, I've never imagined that Bubble Yum would make a Spearmint flavor for their gum. I bet it was quickly discontinued when it didn't go over well with kids. Peak Antifreeze- When I saw the man climbing the mountain, carrying the bottle of the antifreeze, I thought he was going to pour the whole bottle over the mountain, essentially thawing out the entire mountain when he reached the top.

4:30--Wow; I didn't realize they made calculators that small that far back. I don't recall seeing those until the mid-1980's or so.

What's wild is that at the time of this McDonald's commercial for the Big Mac it had only been around for 11 years, while Burger King's Whopper had been around 21 years at the time.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 3 жыл бұрын
Burger King was a relatively obscure regional fast food restaurant during the first 10 years of existence, located primarily in Florida (where it originated). It only became a nationally known chain after it was sold to Pillsbury in 1967. I don't even think Burger King commercials aired nationally until 1969...after McDonald's had introduced the Big Mac. So both would have entered the public consciousness at around the same time.

@Spaced Invaders Positive. Interestingly, after Dune fell through, Giger's concept art and Dan O'Bannon's special effects were then put to use in Alien. Watch the documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dune if you want the whole story, it's a good watch.

@Spaced Invaders I also meant to say, the picture in the Omni commercial is one of many concept art pieces that Giger made for Baron Harkonnen's palace/fortress, most of which took the form of a morbidly obese man with the inhuman proportions that his art is known for.

This might have been the first ad for PEAK antifreeze you posted - I saw in other volumes ads for Prestone antifreeze. That was a bit nonsensical the fried chicken ad but the jingle is catchy! Plus KTRK used the Move Closer To Your World theme for their news famous in Philadelphia as well as in New York for a while (WPIX Action News)

The Bad News Bears was produced by Paramount. It has nothing to do with Disney, and they do not own the rights to do a remake.
