I've lived in Chicagoland all my life, but was born in 1978, so I have no memories of these ads, but I do remember watching Family Classics in the 80s, and God do I miss the McDonalds character ads.

1:38 - How dare this woman question the long-lasting fresh smell of Bounce! Blasphemy, I say! I love it how all these people just surround her after this.
@80sCommercialVault3 жыл бұрын
Don't let Bounce hear you question its freshness! It'll wish you into the cornfield!

12:13 - Here's a fun fact. This Roy Leonard guy they're talking about in this commercial hosted Family Classics after Frazier Thomas died. Leonard was a famous entertainment commentator and critic who was famous for his easy-going on-air personality. He passed away back in 2014.

2:31--I remember back in the 70's and 80's they kept trying to convince us that Zest was not really a "soap." A check of the ingredients indicated otherwise. 4:11--I don't recall seeing the Staley brand of pancake syrup. Per Wikipedia, the brand was sold to Purex a couple years later. 7:36--I never owned this Tonka play set, but I would have loved toys like that back then. 9:40--One of many great commercials for McDonald's through the years. And that jingle--my elementary school actually used it (with different lyrics) for a school song for several years! 10:12--That electric train set looks really cool. 10:42--I'm not a big peanut butter eater, but those cookies look yummy! 11:12--"A sandwich is a sandwich, but a Manwich is a meal." That is an iconic advertising slogan from that time. 13:12--Tyco made some really cool electric toys back then. I had one of their racing sets, though not quite as fancy as this one.

Bounce- The interior of that store reminds me of the various "Mom And Pop" Corner Stores that I used to visit as a child. Sun Maid Raisins- Those must be the most exceptional raisins in the world if that boy was so willing to trade his potentially valuable baseball cards to the girl for a box of them.

I was cackling like a hen at the miniature bathtubs in the Zest commercial. But I absolutely lost it when she picked up the tiny sprayers to rinse the tubs. “What day did the Silver Streak train arrive?” “It was the 3rd of September…”

0:37 - Frazier Thomas deserves credit simply for appearing dignified in front of that duck painting...

The other painting of the little boy was on no less than 10 walls in my circle of friends in the 70's. My Mom and Sister still have it to this day.

That duck painting is fantastically terrible.
@elc19602 жыл бұрын
That duck painting is almost as weird as the one on the wall in The Addams Family, the one with the giraffe wearing a smoking jacket and reading a map. Now THAT'S weird.
@bethdibartolomeo20422 жыл бұрын
I believe the painting is supposed to be of the duck hand puppet he worked alongside in the Garfield Goose show, or at least is a nod to it.

If I'm not mistaken the music used in the WGN Station ID is the opening of Roger Whittaker's 'The Last Farewell'. Edit: It's this version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gna8gICmqa-bi6s Also the jingle for the United commercial at 11:42 is based off the theme for 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines', just some more trivia.

In that Sun Giant raisins ad, that's James Hampton from F Troop as the lawyer, and Marvin Kaplan from Alice as the sun. Kaplan was also the voice of Benny the Ball on Top Cat.

The judge in the Sun Giant Raisins commercial looks so familiar! Could it be Michael Vale, aka "Fred the Baker" from Dunkin' Donuts?

Sun-Maid Raisins-she would later discover that those cards werent valuable Tide-the commercial i'd write would be somewhat better than that one Frazier Thomas Host Segment-"Since this movie is a dud,i'll just tell the viewers about next week's showing.." Tyco Silver Streak -Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor figures sold separately
