I think I'm blown away the most by the microphone quality!

It's now more like $200. Maybe it was underrated a few years ago? Still as good as ever but used prices are often trendy so it'll probably be back at $100 in 6 months or so.

I have a Canon S110 and it blows any cellphone camera away. If you keep it to max 800 ISO, it yields great colours and exposure and is tack sharp. I have an iPhone 11 and I'd use the S110 over that all day long. I paid $30 for it.

Yep, really like these videos! The first camera I ever tried to buy was the S100. Tried, because it had been just put out of production and was not available in shops anymore. Secondhand though it was still way too expensive, so I bought the much crippled S200 for only €130 new. Had great fun with it, learned quite a lot from it and shot some nice photos with it. Phone improve but they still have to do a major job on the quality of the lenses. Thanks for bringing up this memory to me!

I plan to soon be doing some travelling, bird watching and vlogging on the cheap. I will be using two, used, very cheap, but highly regarded, point and shoot compact cameras that I have recently bought. One is, of course, a Canon S100, and the other is a Nikon Coolpix S9100. Most of the Canon's strengths are well known, but its optical zoom is only 5X. The Nikon, on the other hand, has 18X optical zoom, but much of it is automated, unlike the Canon. Both of these cameras are burst capable, I won't bother you with their full specs as that can easily be found via some online searching.

Went three years trying to work with my phones, occasionally I managed to get something decent, but what I seriously didn't like was the lack of tactility with them. It left me with a feeling of missing out. Ok for snaps of signs and posters but if there was a possiblity to a nice photo, the phone is just dull, it brings no joy for me.

Thanks for the upload Steven. The S100 has that rough textured paint job which is enjoyable. If you haven't checked out the CHDK hack, it's free and opens up features in this camera. The Intervalometer is a highlight.

Fun, informative love for this little camera. I've dusted off my S100 and going to be giving it to my friend for her cooking channel.

You cannot find this gem anywhere for less than $200 these days. I bought mine back in 2013-14. Took it everywhere, but it looks like it may have dropped, the LCD frame is separating from the body. It still turns on and works though. So I picked up another that came with 4 extra batteries because yeah. The battery power on this sucks LOL

Something else a phone can’t compete with compared with most point-and-shoots is zoom range: an optical zoom of, say, 28-105mm equivalent is so useful and so noticeably lacking when you have “just” a phone. If nothing else, this is a deal-breaker for me and why I always take a compact as well as a phone :)

I just got this camera for to document a trip, and I was wondering, was there a problem with this camera that you may have since posting this vid? I know that historically, the Powershot S100 has had problems with its lens.

Everyone is always talking about a touch screen. Since I can only use one hand, I am glad Canon makes cameras without a touch screen. I have a canon ELPH 190 which came out in 2016 and it does not have a touch screen. I am not against touch screen technology as long as long as they make products without that function. FOR ME TRYING TO HOLD THE CAMERA WITHOUT THE TOUCH SCREENS FLIPPING ALL OVER THE PLACE IS JUST A PAIN IN THE A--. I LOVE TAKING PICTURES AND I AM REALLY GLAD I DO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH TOUCH SCREENS. I HAD TO BUY A SMART PHONE INSTEAD OF A FLIP PHONE AND I AM HAVING A TERRABLE TIME TRYING TO HOLD THE PHONE AND USE IT WITH ONE HAND BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS FLIPPING ALL OVER THE PLACE. I WOULD NEVER TRY AND TAKE A PICTURE WITH THE PHONE FOR TWO REASONS, MY CANON TAKES SUPERIOR PICTURES AND I DO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH A TOUCH SCREEN.

Be careful buying this, there are issues with the lens and the shutter button. Mine, that I bought years ago has under 1000 shots and the shutter button is broken.
