Perfectionism got in my way too! And a 9-5, came back so exhausted to do anything else so I can relate. I also agree that we as creators need to have the initiative to connect with other creators, no need to use the word networking. Just to feel less lonely will be a great start. Keep creating Rachel!

I recently came across your KZbin channel and immediately subscribed! You inspire me so much, I'm currently stuck in a full-time job that isn't fulfilling, with 50+ hour work weeks. I'm determined to work on an app and learn how to make apps in my spare time so I can move on from this job and start working for myself as well! Thank you for your insights, it's honestly really relatable to listen to and reassuring. Making the leap is scary! Also great quality content

As someone who just quit their job to become self-employed, you are a huge inspiration to me. Besides your creative way to edit videos that is just so cute and on point with your storytelling, I always feel like I get a lot of value from your videos in a very chatty, easy to digest way. As if you were giving a friend an advice sharing your experience. Thank you!

This video is so comforting and, at the same time, so encouraging. I have always wanted to work a 9-5 because I thought that is where the most growth is. However, because of the current job market and my mental health going downhill, I decided I would not be in this rat race anymore. Your video came at the right time when self-doubt was getting to me about my decision, and I felt encouraged. Thank you!😁

I recently started getting into UX freelancing after quitting my previous fulltime UX gig & taking about a year off to explore what I want & what makes me happy. Your videos (& your website) have been super helpful to watch for me to get prepared for freelancing! A big thank you & keep up the good stuff!!

Yay! I've been eagerly waiting for a new video. I see a lot of myself in you-the desire to be my own boss, work independently, and create authentic content that reflects who I am and my journey. Not everyone is meant to be an entrepreneur, and not everyone is cut out to be an employee either. As someone with many interests outside of work, it can be tough when I'm unable to pursue them because of job demands. So, I'm working hard to build the income and freedom I need to explore other aspects of my life. Both working for someone and working for myself have their challenges, but I've chosen my path. Thank you, Rachel, for being such an inspiration. I love you❤

I can relate to this. I quit my corporate job in dec 2023. Went fully freelance Jan 2024 and also juggling my own design company with my partner. It was tough because i quit with no fix freelance clients and i wasnt drawing salary from my own company as the money we get from the project we reinvest it into the company all these while. I eventually manage to secure a retainer client on my freelance pipeline for a 6 months contract of $3000 per month. After 8 months doing this, a good role knock on my door but it was for full time. An ACD role with a good high pay, I took it. But Now i feel miserable as I have to juggle 4 main source of income. - My full time job - Managing my business needs and team - Executing work for my retainer client - Executing work for my freelance client Will i drop soon. Maybe but Im willing to try this.
@rachelhow5 ай бұрын
woah that's a lot of wins for you, although it's tiring to juggle 4 sources of income. for retainer and freelance client, you can consider delegating a small part of the work to a freelancer to get you through this without burning out. you could even hire a part time employee to help you and your partner! I think the full time job also gives you a lot of learning opportunities apart from the high pay :)

I’m new to ui ux and web design. Taking a course and building my resume. Do you really think it’s possible for us to survive working on our own? I live with my parents and I don’t have to rush to move out. This might be my opportunity to become my own boss. I don’t have to pay rent.
@rachelhow5 ай бұрын
this journey took me years and it's definitely not easy. ☀️ on the bright side, remote/hybrid job opportunities have increased since the pandemic, and design/collaboration tools (figma, slack, miro etc) are much more accessible compared to 5-10 years ago 🥹 living with family and keeping costs low (while growing your savings) is a great way to start. if possible, consider freelancing on the side while you're employed. freelancing not only brings you income, but also helps you grow as a business owner and you learn how to build a relationship with clients etc. This will prepare you better for self employment if you do decide to quit in future. it seems like you are proactively taking actions towards building the lifestyle you want - keep it up! thanks for watching and I hope this video has helped you in some way!
