You did an excellent job by carefully inspecting the gun after test firing. I have always wanted to try and shoot some big guns, but I live in the UK, and guns are simply not a thing over here. You can get a license for numerous weapons, mostly shotguns and rifles, but those are mostly used by farmers or for clay pigeon shooting.

as I understand it anything 20mm and over is technically a cannon (hence why russian 14.5mm MG's aren't autocannons but 20mm are). as such, there are several AT rifles that are technically hand-held cannons. well, ski-mounted but the point still stands (lays down... whatever). You don’t actually shoot that much long range on safaris or at least when hunting was super common. Lot of it was pretty close. It’s why they made those 4 gauge rifles to make sure they drop whatever the hell is charging them before it tramples/mauls them.
