I hope that one of the lessons we take from this is the fact that the least among us (kids, outcasts, elderly, etc) shouldn't be pushed into silence when they come to us for help. Take the accusations seriously, make sure you gather every bit of information and be dilligent in the investigation. But most of all, support the person who is coming to you for help. Jesus would not tell someone to stop talking about abuse, He would hug them close and comfort them and defend them.

When I was still religious, I decided that if I was to believe that other religions were cults, then it would be fair for others to judge my personal religious beliefs as belonging to a cult. Fair, is fair, is it not? From my perspective, we have two choices. We can either believe that the universe was created by an entity that designed suffering as part of its plan ... or, we can believe (as did Stephen Hawking, before he died) that the universe always existed, and will always exist ... no plan involved. I prefer the second choice.
