Orphan's Promise

5 жыл бұрын

The Daultons share their inspirational story about their adoption of 9 children and encourage Christians around the world to also adopt.
The Daultons were shocked when they gave birth to a son with Down Syndrome. God used the experience to show them the value of their new child. They went on to adopt 9 children, all with Down’s Syndrome. Heartbreak, chaos, and love fill their life and their home.
This story is from October 2015.

Do you have a job and are financially independent, like most people? Did you become who you wanted to? And if you did you surely realize it's because you're not severely affected by trisomy 21, many of your peers are a lot more affected and will never have a standard life =/ If you were pregnant and could choose would you rather have a chikd with DS or without? Could you give a DS child the full care, for life, they need? Unlikely as they're most likely to outlive you.

@@d-meth if u make them as independent as possible, they can live independently if needed. I mean definitely they would be easier with a care giver but it is possible. My daughter has 17q12 deletion syndrome (genetic disorder similar to down’s) just much rarer and she’s very independent and she’s only 5. She even puts on her own pull up diapers. She can’t dress herself yet but she can put her shoes and undress herself. Granted, LOTS of therapy - everyday! But it’s so worth seeing them love being independent.
@d-meth
@d-meth 3 жыл бұрын
@@crystalortega2156 sure, but when she's 20 will she be as independent as "healthy" young adults? Will she be able to work and live independently? Even now she's 5 and still in diapers (yeah, pullups are diapers) and can't dress herself. Will the gap close or widen with age? And it's awesome that you can afford all the necessary therapies but not everyone can =/ Many of those kids end up in group homes and later in care facilities (as soon as they age out of foster care systems). It's sad, it it, I get it. They do deserve great lives like everyone. BUT Not even healthy kids have great home lives. And they're kids that can manage without extra care and are totally independent around age 20. Unfortunately most people will still prefer "healthy" children to children with known issues even if only for the cost and time of rearing 🤷🏼‍♀️ Most don't have extra resources and if they do they want to invest them into making their kid stand out from the crowd of "healthy" kids and not just catch up to them. It's just reality. Sorry.
@crystalortega2156
@crystalortega2156 3 жыл бұрын
@@d-meth my daughter is declared disabled so she gets her therapies through Medicaid (which I learned that after she was 2 that I qualified for Medicaid and disability - wish they told me earlier) so I’m blessed with that. The Down Syndrome kids will also qualify for Medicaid through disability but no one tells you that. My daughter’s daycare told me and that’s how I knew. As far as pull-up/diapers, my daughter has a neurogenic bladder (in English, means she can’t feel her pee because the nerves are damaged due to the spinal cord injury she was born with) she also can’t feel her poop for the same reason. So that’s why I was very adamant about teaching her to change her diaper and learning how to do it herself because she will be in pull-ups the rest of her life. Now, that’s another thing. I didn’t know until she was 4 that I could get her diapers for free too through Medicaid. They don’t tell you any of this stuff at all. It’s horrible. My daughter’s fate is unknown since it is a rare disorder and not much research has been done. But I try to make her as independent and keep her as healthy as possible and do as many surgeries and procedures to make her live as normal life as possible. I can’t even tell u the number of surgeries and procedures she’s had tbh. As far as work and live independently, I pray for it. But only time will tell. Thanks for asking! I love when people are interested in my daughter’s condition and willing to learn just as I had to.

It broke my heart to hear the dad talk about how many orphans there are in the world compared to how many Christians, therefore there should be no orphans left in orphanages. Unfortunately being a Christian doesn't automatically give people the financial means to do what their heart calls them to do. I have one daughter that I adopted and I've met children since then that I felt the need to care for them and give them a home, but I only have the room and finances to care for one.

What a treasure you both are. Mom, you said you were not a good Christian, how wrong you were and God knew it. The love that the two of you have isn't at all common. The word says true, Christianity, is to take care of the widows, and the orphans, and you even took on those with this special challenge. My sister was downs, and I even hoped I would have a downs, baby. How precious and lovable they are. I came from a family of 13, when Debra got older, there would be 10 or 12 show up at my mothers on a Fri. afternoon, and Debra knew what everyone of them took, in their coffee or tea. She also had quite a sense of humor, and loved Jesus. When you walked past her bedroom, she was always talking to him. Wow, does our Lord have a special place for all of you. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story. I certainly hope you never again say you weren't one of those good Christians. What a way to show the GLORY OF GOD, to those who do not know HIM.

God has spoken to me, at first I was just listening and it’s was so heartwarming and made me happy. Then when he said there should not be a single orphan because of how many Christians there are I full on started crying. I was told I’d never have kids, then I got pregnant and miscarried. When that happened my husband and I felt in our hearts we wanted to adopt. A couple months later I got pregnant again and my baby girl came along. Then after that I got pregnant yet again, but sadly I miscarried. The second time was the hardest and I was so bitter about it. But only God knows why I had to go through that again. Now in December baby #3 was born. My husband and I have mentioned in passing how much we would like to adopt. And I think it’s gonna be time for us to get our things in order and get prepared, maybe a baby or older child with Down syndrome. This has truly spoken to me. I can’t hold back my tears, not of sadness, but of happiness and purpose.

"Some people are really good Christians" Words from a really good person. Who wouldn't doubt or blame their God after loosing a child? It's just natural and I'm sure her God understand.

It always weirds me out when people talk so much about religion and god, but when people are using god and religion to do wonderful things like this, it makes me smile. I’m so used to people using religion to justify bigotry that I’m surprised and happy when people are using it to make the world better. I wish more people were more like these people and I strive to be more like them!

I LOVE the Downs Syndrome population, they are so near and dear to my heart! I applaud you for what you have done!! Your children are all beautiful!! We grew up with a Downs boy in my hometown of 600 people. He was treated just like any other child in his family and in our town. To this day when I see him he has the biggest hug for me and tells me he loves me. I also worked in some facilities where I fell in love with everyone of them. The last facility I worked at was all males (98 of them), where I became a member of their family!! I learned all their little quirks and some of their habits and the workers in the facility were their family! My last job was for nine years, changed management, and all department heads were let go, I was the last one. She was fired four months after me. However, that was the best job I ever had!!!

Wow. Beautifully said. I am a true Christian myself. Your story was so amazing & I’m so happy that you were able to give all those kids with Down syndrome a great home & learn that it is okay to be different. Please keep up the good work you do for your cool kids & for others! I do have a mild learning disability & my niece who is twelve has a mild physical disability, but she is the most amazing young lady that I know and she’s my princess since she was a little kid. She is only 12. I do have a nephew with the same mild learning disability as I do. I love them both the same & pray that they will have an awesome future ahead of them. They know our father in heaven as well as I do & my princess niece & I enjoy singing great Christian songs together as well when she’s over a couple times a year! God bless your amazing family always & the love you give your kids!! 🙏🏻🎶☮️✝️💕❤️🙏🏻😇🥰🖐🏼
