1:03:27 Bingo. When i worked at a dealership right out of high school i started out as a porter because i needed a job and that was the only position open. Then i began helping the service writers write up customers coming in for service. Once i had gotten the hang of that i started getting involved with helping the loaner car manager with issuing out rental cars. After about a year the rental car manager had gotten into some hot water over not checking the conditions of the loaners being turned in and the dealership had to eat the cost of scrapped rims, burn holes in interiors...etc. Well, they ended up taking that position away from him and the GM decided to have all service writers learn how to do rentals. I took it upon myself to deal with the loaner department myself so they wouldn't be bothered with it. Keep in mind at first i was not getting paid for the extra work... i will still making crap porter money but in my mind if i did a well enough job i would get my raise. 6 months into portering, service writing and taking care of the rental department i got my big raise and of course new job titles. I would even provide my GM with a daily updated list of the miles on each unit along with the date put in and due out of service ( which was not my responsibility because long story short if a unit gets so many miles on it they can pull it out of fleet and sell it fast) Loaner department went from having 6 cars to 32 by the end of my career there. It was bittersweet leaving a department that i pretty much had full control over and built up into a well functioning cash cow for the company but i had better things waiting for me on the horizon. Ed makes an excellent point. You need to put yourself out there and learn as much as you can...even if you don't get paid for the extra work or recognized at first it will all work out exactly how you want it to.

Hey Ed,,,, Congrats to you and VINwiki. I wish I would have taken video of that extremely difficult exotic car we loaded at your shop last year. That would have made a nice video. You did pay me a nice tip though. Quite a few years ago, When I first started Towing Exotics you always treated me very respectfully, even when you corrected me on writing my vin numbers. Your success is well deserved, Congrats Ed

Ed actually skyped into my classroom to speak with my students. Such a great guy to take time out of his day for the youngsters.

I think the best thing about these Ed centric videos is that Ed as a person, and his character are one of those that we would all like to have as a mentor. Thanks for doing what you are doing and how you go about it!!

The best hour and a half I've ever spent on youtube. I regret not watching it sooner and congratulate you, however late, on 700+ thousand subscribers. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the video, and I wish you, as well as VIN Wiki, the best.

I remember finding Vinwiki when the channel had a little over 10k subscribers and I immediately went and watched every video, it's awesome to see what they channel has become, keep up the good work! As a side note I would definitely listen to a podcast that was a compilation of stories or something totally new.
