Cage looks right. I started fabricating at a young age in my father's racing shop. I'm 50 now, and have built and fabricated so many wonderful things like space vehicles, jets, helicopters, drag cars, campers, muscle cars, hot rods, houses, shops, car trailers, and a bunch in between..etc, etc. The skills your honing at your age can take you places some only dream of in life. The satisfaction of creating something tangible and useful is in itself art.

In order to make a vehicle suspension operate well at high speeds(in a dual a-arm front suspension) the lenght of the upper a-arm should be 50-80% of the lenght of the lower one, this makes it even more stable while turning at high speed but through the compression of the suspension it modifies the camber so it's more complicated, but good to know

I definitely agree, unless you're always driving in a straight line unequal a arms are the way to go.

I drove an 86, yes these are special. if you think you have the space to turn the throttle, you'll wonder even faster if there's still room to brake. they eat space. they are not a test of your refexes, but they are there to make it clear to you that there are limits to your refexes, thinking speed, endurance and strength. What I also remember is that these had mega vibrations, your wrists took a hard time. keep that in mind because everything that is sensitive to vibrations will certainly break down. there is also a company that takes a modern KTM block (believe a 450) turns it into a 500 but with balance shaft. maybe too late for you but after all the vibration problems you might have this is the next best thing after the CR500 ... if you still want the beast among the beasts. greetings David

Quick tip when doing the dimplesdont forget to flip them over and they would look killer if you swapped the side so the dimple was on the inside and if you choose to you could add a bar in between the di.es for extra strength.

I built a golf cart many years ago with a Cr 500 motor beware of the vibration lots of broken motor mounts. I have heard because of using the solid wheels no spokes like on a motorcycle to absorb the vibration. long story short after one season I took out the 500 and put a CBR900 motor it has ran for 15 years now with no broken motor mounts.

Sometimes you gotta move stuff on to continue new projects. Those shocks may seem stiff now, but at high speeds you’ll be happy they are. You do know that CR500 engine will get you close to 100 mph, right? LOL those bikes still scare me.

@kinotransam
@kinotransam 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome build man. And yes those springs are way too stiff. Most drag cars with coil over shocks don't even run a 200lb spring. As light as that thing will be, you would probably need no more than around a 130lb spring. I would wait until you have most of the buggy built and assembled then weigh they whole buggy. Talk to the guys that you got the shocks from to see what they recommend. Keep up the great work bro!!
@jaredbudzinski9385
@jaredbudzinski9385 3 жыл бұрын
When testing your suspension on concrete like that I like to put a piece of cardboard or plastic under the wheels to allow them to slide out. 200 lbs/in is definitely too much for the build, but having tires stick to the concrete will make shocks seem even stiffer than they are, which could lead to only one shock compressing since only that tire slid a bit. My guess is you'll want somewhere around 100-125 lbs/in
