Have always heard very positive things about Pran sahab. Considering his kindness of only charging Re 1 for his role in Bobby, Raj Kapoor should have fairly rewarded him after Bobby turned out to be a Bumper Hit & paid him even a bit more than his usual fees. Relationships are difficult to build but easy to break & here is a perfect example of very good friendly relationship ruined by an act of stinginess.

Again a very nice and interesting video on the friendship between Raj & Pran. It was the big hearted Pran who agreed to do Bobby just in order to help his friend and signed the movie without even listening to his role in the film. It needs lots of guts to do such a thing. Saddened to learn that Raj Kapoor sent Pran Sahab a cheque of Rs.1 lac only...he did not even go to him personally to give the amount. Pran Sahab returning the cheque back shows that he was very much hurt by this attitude of Raj Kapoor. He had whole heartedly and in good faith acted in Bobby during the tough time of the Kapoors. I was unaware about this incident. And we the people never ever got to see borh these great actors together after 1973.. What a loss !!! Thanx for this wonderful video ..👍

It is well documented that Pran sab was an officer and a through gentleman. He was generous, kind, humble & a man of his word. I knew a senior Army Officer who was posted at Mumbai (than Bombay), he was staying close to Pran sab's bungalow. Both of them would exchange pleasantries almost everyday. Pran sab would often drive past in his convertible car. This officer, who was fond of convertibles came to know that Pran sab was selling that car, but the officer was unable to broach the topic with Pran sab, finally when he did ask him, Pran sab told him that he had just sold the car to a dealer, and if the Officer had only asked earlier he would have reduced the price further as it would have gone to an Army Officer. Such is the character of great men. As usual thank you Rahoul ji for another interesting anecdote. Rahoul ji you are amazing, you must write a book.

Raj Kapoor had played truant feigning fever kept him from making it for the shoot. Left with no choice but to pack up, Shailendra felt let down, keeping in mind the loss of time and money. But being the sensitive kind thought of the scenario another way. How could he be bothered with money matters while his friend suffered the chills, so decided to pay him a visit. On reaching the RK residence, Shailendra found his friend enjoying a game of cards with some cronies! Not one to pass a situation that warranted a bit of chiding, he is said to have quoted the lyric: Sajanre jhooth mat bolo, Khuda ke paas jaana hai! Na haathi hai, na ghoda hai, Wahan paidal he jaana hai!

Rahoul, I think Raj Kapoor was not fair to Pran, his “friend”. Pran worked his tail off, and delivered one of the best performances of his life, next to UPKAR(1967). This, in part, enabled Bobby to become a phenomenal success. I think RK, at least, should have and could have, paid Pran his usual three lakh fee. I have done the math. Pran was an honorable man. He died alone, in a chawl in Bombay, a broke, and broken man. You know, he never wanted to leave his beloved Lahore and come to Bombay. He came for “rozi roti”. May his life be an example to all of us. Rest In Peace, Pran sir. Kasme , Vaadey, Pyar, Wafa, sab, baatein hai, baaton ka kya. Koi kisi ka nahin, yeh zhoote nathey hai, naathon ka kya.

Also it is common in film field that some actors never paired with some other great actors. But, any silly reasons should not be attributed to that. Nargis, Nutan, Nanda, Meenakumari, Madhubala, Saadhana, Mala sinha, Waheeda, Hemamalini, Saira banu, Simi and some other heroines also acted with RK in many films. Why none of them could find any wrong with him? How could Asha find his guilt without pairing with him even in a single movie? It is easy to pass on such derogarety and baseless comments on a deceased actor.

Pran said he would accept more price after the success of Bobby. He never fixed any price for his role. Market price can be expected from any other, but not from a good friend. Did Pran evaluate their friendship with mere rupees? Here i am not backing RK. But, he had produced some blockbusters in the Indian movie industry, never faced critisism of such short payment to any actor. “BOBBY’ is an example of a ’SOUNDTRACK’ better than the “BOBBY” Film itself. Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s music really came to rescue Raj Kapoor and RK Films.

One important missing link in this incident. RK was sure Mere Naam Joker was going to be a blockbuster. But his two great friends had left the film, mainly because of RK's attitude. Rajendra Kumar (he was the film's original Director) and Pran Sahab ( he was replaced by Monoj Kumar.) Pran had signed ' Johnny Mera Naam' and had a major role in it compared to the one offered to him in MNJ. Further, RK wanted Gulshan Rai and Vijay Anand to delay the realise of JMN, but they refused. RK took the challange with confidence that 'Johnny' will be a flop show in front of ' his life's love stories' 'Joker'. But the reverse happened, at Ganga-Jammuna Twin Theaters at Tardeo. When the bankrupt RK approached Pran Saheb, he must have felt that his role in JMN had indirectly been the cause of RK's financial suffering. Thus, to compensate, Pran saheb was ready to act for RK for Rs.1/-. But, after, Bobby went hit, RK, who was now of the opinion that Pran saheb had joined the rival Dev Anand camp, decided to pay him the same old price which he had offered him for Mera Naam Joker. This must have made Pran Saheb angry and he decided not to act with Rajkapoor again !
